    • I'm old AND old school. One of my favorite shows! You're right, 11Stucat...most ppl watching these videos weren't born in my generation. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. We've advanced as a country in some ways, but adults who were in their 30s, 40s, etc were old enough to have lived through Wartime, the Great Depression, etc and knew how to live on less and be happy anyway. I learned how to value thrift from my grandparents, how to cook and throw very little away...and how to repurpose and upcycle what you have. Appreciate, take pride. As a kid in the 70s when it seemed to me that everyone was kinda broke, I was still happy. Florida Evans almost always met her difficulties with faith and determination. Esther Rolle's nephew chatted with me once. Great family. ❤

In 2004 she had a song blasting every other year constantly on the radio from the late 80s then her come back during this time. Just as a reference, I was out of highschool a year at this time. • Too bad you do not understand the negative impact this show had on people who are black. Imagine, your aspirations in life are easy credit ripoffs, temporary layoffs, shucking and jiving? I guess that only a black American can embrace and find comfort, even amusement in the device of his own oppression. I was a child when this program aired and even as a child, I found this to be disgustingly disgusting.

    • Angel RedBottom lol, bitch plz. Good Times was one of the biggest shows ever, I watched it down here in Australia. Do you think 13% of the U.S. population could maintain a TV show for that long? Of course white people watched it, we aren’t as focused on skin colour as you seem to be. The suggestion that anyone wouldn’t know Janet Jackson because they’re the “wrong” skin colour is even more hilariously dumb. Ffs, she was the biggest pop star on the planet. There’s no way one can do that if only one race is buying your records.

  • The one black guy in the audience, “Yeah Wilona!”😂😂 I keep seeing comments about how the show’s episodes most of the time had the same concept, but I believe that was the point. That was one of the best representation of the life that a lot blacks were living, especially in the inner city. And while they did have the same concept, the show hit on some very hard and important topics that a lot of black families either didn’t talk about, had a hard time talking about or didn’t have accurate information on, even today. For instance, does anyone remember the V.D. episode, or the episode of how being a housewife was a job that is barely respected and shown gratitude? What about the multiple women’s rights episode? What about when Wilona dated a guy who was deaf? What about the episode where they showed how racial quota works? What about the episode showing how senior citizens have hard time surviving once they reach that chapter of their lives? What about the time they talked about gang violence and the signs of child abuse? The show wasn’t just about a struggling black family never getting a break, it was about a family that stuck together, laughed to keep crying, kept working for a better life, keeping romance and affection in a marriage even when things around you are falling apart, pushing your children to be better than you. The role of James being a strong, hard-working, BLACK man instead of some hoodlum, it was important, and I’m glad Estelle fought for that. That show was the reality of many, and the fact that they pulled off such a monumental and amazing show in television history is quite amazing. Not to mention, Good times is responsible for a lot of the slang and phrases of that time. Also, the fact that they all looked like everyday, natural and beautiful black people made it even better. Estelle looked like your mom or grandma, Wilona was the fun aunt, James is definitely your grandfather or father, it was real, and I love that about that show.

I jokingly made a reference to my name is Lenny and my girlfriend laughed pretty hard along with me but her daughter had no idea what we were laughing about we had a show or a clip and even though she’s never seen the show she didn’t think it was as funny as her mother and I did.
