I personally don't understand why a check to the head can be considered a minor penalty, that's hardly a deterrent to stop something which can, and has in the past, resulted in severe concussions and other head related trauma
If it's incidental vs. a targeted headshot...you can see a lot of these checks weren't targeting the head purposely. Some were. Completely eliminating the possibility of head contact isn't possible in any contact sport.
@@zhargidabeoulveincidental hits that make contact with the head but are otherwise clean aren’t penalties, it’s just based on severity.
Intent and how severe the hit was is a big factor
I may be biased as a caps fan but Ellers hit was clean. There was no head contact at all
His shoulder was square with his chest 100%. But once they have the call made, they can't change it so it's just a bad break for Ellers unfortunately
Nah, I'm not a caps fan and that was a good hit
So was Aube-Kubel's
@@Fk7_papi see that’s why I can’t play Hockey professionally. I would’ve refused to go into the box 😂
@@allthingshockey9688 it's hard to agree with the refs, especially when you know you've done nothing. When I played Junior C, a guy ran INTO ME with his head and because I was ready, my shoulder was down already not knowing he was there, he dropped and I got 5 mins for head contact..... I was baffled when I got called because it was the BACK of my shoulder he hit XD
Love Ellers reaction whilst getting jumped. Oh boy this gonna hurt but damn it if I dont try my absolute best not to crash or stomp on the guy lying on the ice I just hit.
Can we do a video on players fighting with fans?
It seems these glancing blows are more dangerous than solid body checks.
Most of these happen because they player with the puck is leaning forward and staring straight down at their feet like idiots.
I've seen Euro league games where there is just ZERO tolerance to head hunting hits. Immediate match misconduct and a major penalty.
And most times player making a clean hit gets penalized because opponent puts his head down, or the hit caused players head to snap forward and whiplash.
1:49 Why is Deboer so mad when his guy got his 5 minutes reduced to a 2 minutes, it’s the ideal scenario for your team, what you yelling for 😂
Wonder if he thought it was an all-or-nothing call for some reason.
The game of hockey is never going to be safer than it already is.
Love these
Seems like there is a rash of players injured by hits to the head compared to in years past. Equipment now is so much better than in earlier days of hockey. Today’s players may feel like they are invincible, they play with more reckless abandon but they are in better shape physically and move faster than players from several decades ago. When the league got rid of the two line pass infraction it opened up the ice so skill players were able to build up a head of steam through the neutral zone, and it opened up scoring. I’ve been watching hockey since the late sixties and I don’t recall this many players getting hit high and going out with a concussions back in those times, of course the league went from six teams in 1967 to its current thirty two.
can we get back hand wrap around goals?
Johansson should’ve gotten a penalty for embellishment too
noticing a trend with the same few teams
Cool compilation would be big hits that refuse to fight
If the hit is clean, shouldn’t have to fight. This is a big boys game.
The penalty should be 4 minutes if it is like the Perry hit but 5 automatically if there was intent like the hit on Boychuk
Hischer hit perry with his head.
#request can u pls upload the Dennis Gilbert and Ryan Lomberg fight, thx
a lot of these are legal hits that the hitee tries and fails to avoid turning it into a headshot. If I line up a body check and then you stop short and your head is the only thing in my path, how is that my fault? What am I supposed to do - see 1 second into the future and adjust my play? The burden is on the players to protect themselves. There is a skill in safely taking hits as Messier explained during a TNT game a few weeks ago. Kids don't learn to get hit with the non-checking kids leagues.. Tough skill to develop as an adult. Especially when you've developed the bad habit of skating with your head down.
Do NHL: Late Shorthanded Tying Goals
repost?
Why is the flames in a lot of these 😅
they get hit in the head a lot
How many of these actually connect with the head?!?!
quite a few of them
Bout half, usually the hitting player missing their target in open ice or the receiving player not protecting themselves at all.
Perry should be pissed he hardly hit him that was ridiculous it should have been a diving call too
Perry on Hischier,Carlson on tkachuk, vehaeghe, boychuk, kuraly, arnt headshots. You have a duty not turn back or put yourself in vulnerable position. Those are clean classic hockey hits same with when a big hit is thrown clean shoulder to body. Shouldn't be fight after,it doesn't matter if guys injured or follow through led to head injury. That how hockey has always been played if you can't take it don't play or be on NHL.
That's how it's always been, sure. And that's how you got such classic career ending hits in the past. They are trying to not have players get injured to the point that they cannot physically or mentally play the game anymore.
Gotta crack down harder!
11:40 I was at this game and it got heated after it
Watch Gudbranson of Calgary at 8:35 when he goes to get into the scrum he shoves Joseph who just got hit in the head. No respect.
Has anyone noticed that Tampa v canes is turning into a bitter rivalry…
orlovs head didn’t get touched at all
1:20 wasn’t intentional, you could see him check on him after the hit. Penalty regardless.
Perry shouldn't have been penalized. The guy tried avoiding the hit.
F that. He should have gotten 4. 2 for trying to sneakily pick the head and 2 for missing.
Kronwall would have been 5+20 every game with these rules.. Some are dirty, but many are on point. If you got the puck, expect a hit.. heads up.. not fucking down by the knees.
Most of these are surprisingly worth minor penalties. The two that really stand out as clean are kuraly and eller. Didn’t see anything worth a major
Aube-Kubel, the last one where he explodes his arms outwards as he shoulders the guy's head, knocking him down to the ice which causes his face to bleed? That didn't strike you as being worth the major?
How many jumped up and clapped when Tkachuk got it at 3:00?
Why would they? that wasn't Matthew, twit. It was Brady.
@@kyliam80 Seems you are unaware that some fans dislike Brady more than Matthew
washington capitals compilation
Is there a legal hit to the head? No.
Eller on Verheage hit shouldnt have been called
Half of them are weak calls, Tkachuk didnt get hit in the head but flung his head back like he was. So pathetic.
so you skate head down and out and expect players not to hit the head? most of these are the person getting hit fault.
It’s funny every time the caps fight, Wilson is never on the ice
Like grapes had said all along. "If you take fighting out this is what happens" Bettman and all the bleeding hearts got their way.
For fake hockey fans saying should be 5s, none are: A 5 minute major match penalty is assessed when a player purposefully targets the head, it is the main and initial point of contact, and the ref (at his discretion) believes there was a deliberate attempt to injure the opposing player.
BS calls on Perry and Tkachuk. Tkachuk sold it, not even a good sell if you have eyes. Perry missed him more than hit him
Some of these guys are beginning to act like European soccer players...
This league has gotten so soft. Some of these should not have been penalties
I love the tampa announcers trying to justify Corey Perry's hit on Hischier
The 2 minute minor was pathetic.
Tampa's homer announcers...
Perry barely hit him. Get real
@@quartratic2389 really. Just barely hit him with nasa plastic hockey equipment right on the jaw. Just barely.
All hits to the head should be majors.
It's not like they were intentional they were mostly Accidental
most of those were barely grazing the head and not intentional so i think the refs made excellent calls keeping them as minors.
Why am I not surprised Calgary is the first team on this list? One of the worst teams for being dirty if things don’t go their way
See I disagree, the nhl needs to re-evaluate the "hit to the head" rule. If you are caught with your head down that's on you that shouldn't be called
I see you're a fan of players getting their careers ended by concussions. Beyond that, sometimes the hit was targeting the head. A blindside hit away from the play, nobody expects to get their head taken off
this is such a bad take, the onus is usually on the player laying the hit if he sees a player with his head down. it's pretty reckless, and changing it in that way is gonna lead to a LOT more concussions
I saw a lot of hits in this video where the player making the hit came a distance just to hit the player, no intention of playing the puck. So that player was able to see when the other player put their head down and react accordingly. But still they put their hands or elbows up, or put their shoulder forwards into the hit. If you don't react to a player putting their head down to play the puck, that's on you.
It just amazes me some of these "hit to the head" calls can be questionable, but these guys can drop the gloves and punch each other repeatedly in the face and no major penalties and none for intentional hits to the head.
It’s not like Tkachuk can get any kind of brain damage or anything
Did you notice none of his team mates came to stand up for him... Says a lot about him...
I went to school with Nathan mackinnon
Should be renamed NHL: Embelishment Moments
First
the second hit was tanans fault, he tried to dodge the hit instead of taking it to the shoulder.
When this type of play occurs in addition to the penalty(ies) imposed by the officials, the offending player should not be allowed to return to play as long as the player hit by the illegal check (hit) is out of the game due to the hit. The only issue here is that some teams would try to leverage this by keeping a weaker player out of the game when the peralized player is far better than the player hit by the illegal check.
I have no words for how braindead this suggestion is.
@@jacoblamb3535 How do you propose the NHL handle these plays? The current system seems lacking.
I don't see any "illegal" head shot
must be a caps fan
Shut up idiot
The NHL is just getting dumb
They are trying to protect players so they don't get injured to the point that they cannot physically or mentally play the game. Sure, it's entertaining for us to watch. But imagine your whole life built around a game and then in one second some guy hits you the wrong way and you are in a coma, or paralyzed, or you end up dying as concussions can lead to. At the end of the day it is still a game, and if serious injury can be avoided then it should be.
Players in the NHL today are so chicken sh it to fight they drive their armored shoulder pads into opposing players faces. Cowardly play!!!
