    • This all happened during the hurricane in Puerto Rico so she had extra motivation to make people pay attention. You can tell how much it means to her to perform at her potential. She was one of the rising stars as a junior but never really pieced it all together on the tour. Despite everything, she’s an Olympic gold medalist.

  • Why Stephens and safarova? I mean Stephens is inconsistent but winning her GS was not a surprise to me (also don't forgot she reached roland garros final). And Safarova was always a great single and double player, especially in 2015 where she qualified to Wta finals and reach RG final without dropping a single set. Bartoli Wimbledon 2013 should take number 1 spot.

Stephens lost in 3 to "not tired" sevastova, she would probably lost to Venus in tight 2 or 3 because of being "gassed", then Keys would probably win. Another "surprise US open champ".

  • You forgot the most random slam winner of them all: Chris O’Neil...

    @kenisme1000@kenisme10003 жыл бұрын
    • Actually more surprising is the fact that she didn’t win more, statistically speaking at least. The actual win itself less so because the average rank of the winner was much lower than the other Slams back then. But O’Neill is actually a rarity in that she won a junior and senior Slam (even more rare to do so at the same Slam), then becomes even more of an oddity beyond that. For a variety of reasons, few actually achieve this but, of those who do win a slam at junior and senior level, the vast majority either win further slams or further ‘big titles.’ These include Goolagong, Austin, Mandlikova, Sabatini, Capriati, Davenport, Hingis, Mauresmo, Henin, Azarenka, Ostapenko, Wozniacki, Halep, Barty and Swiatek. Even among those few who don’t she is a rarity: Bartoli, didn’t win another of the big titles but won other tournaments (up to 500 level) and made another slam final. I’ve not included Sue Barker and Mima Jausovec since they have other titles but it’s not easy to decide which would have been called ‘big titles’ or their equivalents. Which makes O’Neill unique amongst this group is that she only won that one title. Total. In fact her professional career win-loss was 19-52 and this sole tournament win was enough to propel her to World No. 80… not a typo, eighty. So definitely random, totally unique, just for a very different reason!

  • Ostapenko is unbearable. She doesn't behave like a champion, it's just a snotty little girl with a hoarse voice like a bully that playing decent tennis. My opinion of course.
