Poor Halep, she lost 3 Grand Slams just in this video
Puig winning Olympic Gold was truly special
Yeah it’s a shame she can’t see past round 3 of slams tho
Honestly, I don’t mind Puig but I think she didn’t deserve that (or like you know, she played exactly great tennis, but I think that Olympic gold have to win someone, who is playing well for a long time and deserve it for his ,,all life representing”) -
Olympics are different because players have more nerves than usual due to the uniqueness of the event, it was a great win.
@@info781 For real they are way different. You can see with Del Potro for example the argentinian crowd during the Olympics it feels like it gives him strength. Everyone reacts to the Olympics differently.
This all happened during the hurricane in Puerto Rico so she had extra motivation to make people pay attention. You can tell how much it means to her to perform at her potential. She was one of the rising stars as a junior but never really pieced it all together on the tour. Despite everything, she’s an Olympic gold medalist.
Bartoli at Wimbledon and Schiavone at Roland Garros should definitely be on the list
True, but then they both had another final at the same slam.
@@whatever3041 True for Bartoli. But Schiavone never even reached a GS SF before her FO'10 triumph
What Ever Bartoli has been in wimbledon final before her win , it wasn’t as surprising as y’all made it seem
bartoli didn't have tough opponents, so it wasn't a big shock
How was Safarova winning Qatar surprising?
Sloane's run was iiinsane considering she just came back from foot injury..
I think it helped her relax, Sloane often gets in her head in tough matches and I think she was just happy to be back on court
Also, her draw was very tough!
Monica's win was epic and really emotional. Each round was like winning a tournament for her and her people.
As a Puerto Rican myself it was so amazing to get to see the first gold medal win for PR
It was, she beat good players multiple grand slam champions and a finalist.
when monica puig cries after every match she won at the olympics because she never won that many matches in a row
This probably is going back too far into the past, but a huge shocker for me is when Anastasia Myskina won Ronald Garros in 2004, beating Venus Williams, Capriati, and Dementieva along the way.
But hushed was ranked in top 10 then
A sign of a surprise wta champion includes destroying muguruza along the way.
Don’t forget getting a win over angie kerber as well
I would also include Sharapova winning Wimbledon
i remember jelena RG 2017. she would hit 50 winners as well as 50 unforced errors.
I forgot how impressive Bencic's win was in 2015 that was such a tough draw every round.....and Ostapenko was just fearless
Bencic beated Serena, Ivanovic and Wozniacki in one tournament, that's impressive
Puig's rally against Kvitova tho. That one was really surprising title!
How many shots what’s that !? Amazing tennis
@@Stopstalkingme7 didnt count but was amazing
@@Stopstalkingme7 34 shots and the rally lasted 50 seconds
I totally agree with Puig at the olympics. The final was very emotional.
Vesnina's Indian wells win was very impressive. Shame she couldn't keep it up and go up the rankings more during that period
Now we have Emma Raducanu US Open 2021!!!
Stephens beat 5 grand slam finalists or better/ 7 grand slam semifinalists to get her major thats kind of nuts
Francesca Schiavone, Roland Garros, 2010 Marion Bartoli, Wimbledon, 2013 Flavia Pennetta, US Open, 2015 Iga Świątek, Roland Garros, 2020
Why Stephens and safarova? I mean Stephens is inconsistent but winning her GS was not a surprise to me (also don't forgot she reached roland garros final). And Safarova was always a great single and double player, especially in 2015 where she qualified to Wta finals and reach RG final without dropping a single set. Bartoli Wimbledon 2013 should take number 1 spot.
It was a surprose because Stephens was coming back from injury, she wasn't even in the top-100 when she won the Us Open
Santi Casali she was no83
She was In rg final 2019 2 years later
@B M-Y yeah, it's not like Stephens played 3 sets matches before as well also do physio after achilles injury. But let's take scenario. Stephens lost in 3 to "not tired" sevastova, she would probably lost to Venus in tight 2 or 3 because of being "gassed", then Keys would probably win. Another "surprise US open champ".
Bartoli spent pretty much all her carrer in top 10. This is n'ont the case of Lot of the players you're talking about. She already made a final on Grand slam before winning this one. Ostapenko was way more surprising than her
This reminded me how hard Keys choked at US Open 2017.
Maria José Martínez winning Rome (premiere) in 2010 should definitely be on the list in my oppinion
Also Rezai winning Madrid
Pennetta UO 2015?
I know, how backwards is that?! But they show her winning Indian Wells.
Wow, all 7 match highlights on the way to a title. Great idea , Sabine! These are a real treat!
Emma Raducanu US Open 2021 should be NO. 1 now
Stosur 2011 us open was also a good one, especially since she beat serena in the final. Maybe also kim in 2009 us open since she was a wildcard.
How did I miss this? It's awesome!!
Just when I was about to comment ”Where is Puig’s Gold medal run in Rio?” it popped up as nr 1. It was such a great story.
Puig's win was something special. Bencic played 4 #1 players (well Halep wasn't #1 yet) on her way to victory 2015 Toronto.
Halep makes champions out of everybody 😊
Kenin got probably the draw of her dreams. Except of Barty, she was the favorite in all of the matches she played.
Thanks for the video
peak ostapenko was so fun. i cant stress enough how i want her to be back at that level
i really dislike this horrible girl (both inside and outside). Lostapenko....please continue to be the queen of losses. It's an embarrassment to tennis she managed to win a gs (very lucky draw)
@@marcinpapke lool fuck off it was literally one of the most entertaining underdog runs in the sport. most daring player who goes for winners instead of most of the pussies who play boring safe tennis on the womens tour. a back to her best ostapenko will actually draw crowds instead of halep svitolina and barty playing boring tennis in front of empty stadiums. and how was it a lucky draw? she beat stosur puig giorgi WOZNIACKI and HALEP to win the slam? dont tgalk if u dont know anything
Including Pennetta winning IW but not the US Open? Choices.
I mean, we all make choices...
The US Open was not really a surprise. It was her best performing slam. She made the quarterfinals the year prior losing to Serena and made the semifinals the year before that. All she needed was a few people to fall.
Quote from a Tatiana fan... much?!
@@katerinadicamella i know right! Thank You!
@@anthonywilliams4204 but that was a choice
Great video , totally agree w Puig no 1
I think Iga Świątek should be here with No.1 with French Open 2020. She was a 19 year old qualifier from Poland and the first Pole to win a GS in single.
I love your content ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good choice...always difficult to choose, missing Bartoli W 2013 Pennetta UO 2015. But still great job.
i mean to me, kenin wasn't a surprise at all lol. but still great video!!!!
It was surprised
Sloan Stephens is a CLASS ACT.
First one reply I love ur videos
And now we have Barbora krejcikova in Roland garros 2021
Hope to see Majoli in this clip back when she won RG
Honorary mention: Pennetta winning the USO'15 and Schiavone FO'10. I know this channel only focuses on this past decade, but Clijsters winning the USO'09 will be one of the greatest sport stories I'll ever remember in my life. Also, Ostapenko should be '-1' on this list if possible, she earned it no doubt, but not even a single person could still predict it today if you asked them to pick a super-surprise FO champion LOL
Where's Majoli French Open 1997 Myskina French Open 2004
Puig Olympic run is unbelievable.
Ostapenko isn't a surprise for me. She really played well that year. Not just French Open.

Perfect 🔥
Angie Kerber is also a surprise winner too. 2016 is her year, she won 2 grandslams and 1 final. She also won a silver medal as well.
Aja Aja Aja Vesnina... OMG
Wtf Keys crumbled in the US final against Sloabe
I mean.. its not surprising whenever wta has new champions because the tour is inconsistent
Bencic win is very impressive, she defeat 2 slam finalist, 2 slam champs and 2 futute champs, 4 of them are current or former no.1, bouchard, wozniacki, lisicki, ivanovic, serena and halep.
Ostapenko is not a surprise, look her carreer. Lisicki was a very big surprise to be gone at the wimbledon final.
You forgot the most random slam winner of them all: Chris O’Neil...
Actually more surprising is the fact that she didn’t win more, statistically speaking at least. The actual win itself less so because the average rank of the winner was much lower than the other Slams back then. But O’Neill is actually a rarity in that she won a junior and senior Slam (even more rare to do so at the same Slam), then becomes even more of an oddity beyond that. For a variety of reasons, few actually achieve this but, of those who do win a slam at junior and senior level, the vast majority either win further slams or further ‘big titles.’ These include Goolagong, Austin, Mandlikova, Sabatini, Capriati, Davenport, Hingis, Mauresmo, Henin, Azarenka, Ostapenko, Wozniacki, Halep, Barty and Swiatek. Even among those few who don’t she is a rarity: Bartoli, didn’t win another of the big titles but won other tournaments (up to 500 level) and made another slam final. I’ve not included Sue Barker and Mima Jausovec since they have other titles but it’s not easy to decide which would have been called ‘big titles’ or their equivalents. Which makes O’Neill unique amongst this group is that she only won that one title. Total. In fact her professional career win-loss was 19-52 and this sole tournament win was enough to propel her to World No. 80… not a typo, eighty. So definitely random, totally unique, just for a very different reason!
Sevastova :)
No Iva Majoli beating Hingis at Roland Garros in 1997?
safarova 2015 doha should have been replaced by penneta us open 2015 and bartoli 2013 wimbledon should be mentioned in stead of garcia beijing 2017....
Garcia beated Kvitova Halep and Svitolina, all top 10 players, it was big surprise
Naomi Osaka 2018 Indian Wells was quite surprising as well.
搜尋結果 網頁搜尋結果 Can't believe Marion Bartoli for Wimbledom & Pennetta for US open not in the list.
Ostawinner is very skeptical as she won her maiden title in Roland Garros.
Tennis actually is the only sports which’s not good for betting the more you trust the more fixing occurs in lower atp tours except masters and slams
Nothing shocking from WTA these days... "inconsistent" and full of "surprises"!!!
I’m surprised Sharapova’s Wimbledon victory wasn’t here ngl
Now we've got Iga Swiatek 2020 roland garros!
And Barbora Krejcikova 2021
No longer a fluke.
Caroline Garcia !
It's amazing how Sloane had so many three-setters and still won the tournament!
didn't know that there were no surprising champions before 2015...
Aya and Puig were the biggest surprizes
Osteprnkos French open title unseeded and won the French open title love Anthony Fed ex lol
Damn Solane could be THAT girl
Ana Ivanovic Montreal 2006
Meh..there are a lot of more suprising winners during 90s and early 2000s than this "top 10"..on grand slams alone, we have iva majoli 1997 rg, myskina rg 2004, sharapova wimbledon 2004, conchita martinez 1994 wimbledon, schiavone 2010 rg, serena 2007 AO, clijsters 2009 us open..i could go on..nice try though.
Iga Swiatek is not included?! Shame!!!
😭😭😭swiatek is not a grand slam champion yet😭😭😭
Ostapenko is the most surprising cause honestly with her awkward strokes, extremely low IQ playstyle and stubbornness she could only win anything with 100% luck
How could you forget Emma Raducanu's Grand Slam title?
This video is posted before 2021 USO😭😭
I really don't get Safarova's run being there and Serena's 2007AO not being there lol
She literally defeated a bunch of wannabes like CSN and Petkovic lol and a slumping Vika I CAN'T DEAL
Why is #83 winning a slam not as crazy as #15 winning a non-slam... Was Sloane highly ranked and dropped to 83?
Cole Smith yes
She was in semifinals in 2013 and got her highest rank this year dropped down due to illness
It was a surprise because it was just her 4th tournament after her leg surgery.
where naomi osaka?
Geez , the WTA was formed in 1973 when Nixon was President and All in the Family, and The Waltons were on television, 30 years before Sabinelickifansss seems to realize. Margaret Court was #1, King and Goolagong were top 3 and the new star was Chris Evert. These videos presume the WTA started around 2005. Things actually happened in tennis in the 1970's 1980's and 1990's. Really!
Women's top seeds are such floppers 🤧 So many "up and coming" players that you never hear from again. What is the deal?
I thought that number 1 would be penetta but she is not in the list
She is mentioned - her is IW win is here
6:30 sons of bitches? :)
Where's Fartoli Wimbledon 2013?
Ur comment cracked me up so hard 😂
@@tranquilizer3060 I think it was an accident but 😂
Ostapenko winning is one of the worst things to ever happen to tennis. she got lucky at one tournament. the rest of the time she is a complete joke.
Now you can add Iga
Why the fuck is Safarova a no15 a surprising champion?
sloane now is just a wta tourist .. play really bad alr live on past successes ..
Im glad vesnina is out. So annoying
24:29 Vesnina has the most annoying grunt ever. I think "eye-yeah" must mean "f*ck you" in Russian.
Osaka Iw?
Ostapenko is unbearable. She doesn't behave like a champion, it's just a snotty little girl with a hoarse voice like a bully that playing decent tennis. My opinion of course.
Vesnina won the trophy for the dumbest grunt
Ugly stephens had a hell easy draw
most of women's tennis nowadays is a joke. most matches it isn't even a competition of who's better, but who sucks less.
Wta is not proper competition always underdogs win
Surprised Majoli’s French title isn’t on here
