On the flight deck to Mallorca: a special trip aboard the Lufthansa A350
In this video we join up with Lufthansa for a special A350 flight from Munich to Palma de Mallorca (PMI). A rare opportunity not only to fly a wide body within Europe, but also to tag along with the crew for the duration of the flight, with exclusive behind the scenes access.
Join us as we go from cockpit briefing to pre-flight walkaround, then into the jumpseat on LH2658 for takeoff, cruise and landing from the pilot's perspective. We also get a glimpse at the cabin service and take a self-guided cabin tour of the A350 after all the passengers have deplaned. A dream day for an avgeek, not least because it was followed up by a return to Germany onboard the Boeing 747-8 (stay tuned for that installment coming in a video next week!)

The Airbus cockpits all look alike so yeah it’s not that difficult to switch. I’ve flown almost all the Airbus planes in flight simulator, and I’m confident I can fly ones I haven’t flown (a330/40 and a380). But I don’t think I’m confident enough for the classics (A300/10), since they’re too outdated for me
@@SimPilotMika still some big difference between flying them irl. The planes we got in the flight Sims are sometimes pretty bad. The only real good airbusses we've got are the fslabs and Fenix a320, the rest is not really of great detail

Had a non stop flight from Philadelphia to Rome on United Airlines back when you could listen to ATC on channel 9, listened the whole flight, amazing as you said hearing the different accents.

Flown on the A350, awesome experience. Along with B777 and B787, I have an affinity towards these wide body twins. They are simply, a technological marvel. Personally I would like to fly on a B747-8 someday before they went out of service.
knowing lufthansa, they'll probs be in service for quite a while more. They plan on refurbishing the cabin, so you know the expect at least another decade outta them

I flew A350 from Manila to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. It was uneventful flight and like the usual 350's, it has a very modern cabin design with great moonlighting after a meal. Tho the IFE wasn't functioning right that time but all in all an A350 is an A350. Great experience!

Awesome video! I'd go on the 747 just for the fact that it's a rare opportunity nowadays. For the a 350 there will be many opportunities over many years to come on many different airlines. I must say the Cabin Crew is immaculate! Well done. The purple in economy however I'm not a fan of, reminds me of the cheap blue plastic you find in playgrounds equipment. Beautiful aircraft nonetheless.

I would take the A350 because I love this airplane so much. And one time I flew with Lufthansa A350 from Frankfurt to Munich. It was very nice
A350 all the time! Flew Frankfurt to Tokyo last year with LH 747-8 and back from Osaka to Munich with their A350. The Airbus was a much better experience. The 747 was dirty and worn down and there was a bad air in the cabin the entire flight. On these +10 hour flights you really appreciate the low cabin altitude from the A350.

nice ship, one thing i did notice was that the audio towards the end was picking up some 3g sms transmissions, might want to invest into a balanced line to shield your cockpit audio feed :)
747 it is for me...queen after all and now that she is not being produced anymore, her novelty increases further
We recently got to fly D-ABYS (747-8) from CHI to FRA. Great crew/flight despite ORD being a disaster. I think I prefer the 350 as a traveler and the 747 as a AvGeek. We flew the 350 back with BA from LHR to CHI.
Awesome! I’ve caught both of those at ORD on camera. As for the Lufthansa 747, beautiful plane but it’s bittersweet to spot it as I was supposed to fly on that big bird in March 2020, but it got cancelled. Then 2021 got cancelled. And now 2022… :(
@@chicagocarsandcoffee I'm lucky I could still fly it mid-march 2020 from Buenos Aires to Frankfurt but to be honest, flying inside is one thing, watching it land from the outside is way cooler... Which i can still do somewhat often as most planes that land in FRA make their final turn relatively low, right above the town I live in 👍
Yes, ORD might bei a nightmare. 1 hour Taxi is usual. 747-8 ist a great plane, was flying to Frankfurt am lot. I saw 350 to Munich standing nearby to 747-8 in ORD and was jealous. This plane is a masterpiece.

Gosh, those flight attendants are gorgeous. I'd marry every one of them. As for flying, it's always the 747 - the Queen of the skies! Incredibly sad that it won't be manufactured anymore. Why can't they make the 747 with re-designed efficient engines? My next choice would be the Airbus 380 - the smoothest, most comfortable aircraft I've flown on.

I miss flying this in flight simulator, my VR headset isn’t working anymore and I can’t get a replacement since they aren’t supporting it anymore. I have to get a brand new one in order to fly this plane again The A350 is an absolute boss
Nothing beats the 380 to me; except maybe the 747 which is on par 😉except for the sound coulisse in the cabin, and the 350 being just ETOPS of course.
both A380 and 747 are ETOPS - or to be precise, are beyond ETOPS and can fly everywhere directly except the poles.
@@jemand8462 ETOPS stands for Extended Twin Engine Operations over Sea. 747 and a380 being four engine jets, by definition are not concerned by ETOPS regulations.

I like both aircrafts, but I think I would choose the Boeing 747-8i because it is a larger aircraft.

Great video but it would be even better if we could just hear the sounds of the ATC, engines etc rather than the unnecessary background music.
Although the 350 is a beauty, you can’t compare it to the queen! 5 decades of majesty! Although the 747 has to do a step climb vs the 340/350s direct altitude ascent but that’s a different matter!

For technology and cabin air pressure I prefer the A350. But when sitting in the cabin all depends on the seating - which airline, class, location etc. Hence, for short distance whatever is safe and at time is ok. For long hauls seating becomes no. 1 of priorities.

Great video and nice plane! I just don’t understand why they went with a 2-2-2 in business class. That’s very behind times and behind other airlines. The blend between their premium economy and business is blurred, in terms of seating.

Yeah, its very apparent when they pan the camera rapidly. Unless it's a film, why choose to shoot 24fps? It's very juddery with rapid motion.
