"Pursuing your dreams is how you become homeless." - Chinese proverb 😂😂😂💀
Hahaha My father's version was BE REALISTIC. I can relate so much to that experience. Western socialty is telling you to pursue your passion and your parents to get a REAL job
Linda Mitchell I died lol 😂
nah its facts welcome to second gen asian life
Linda Mitchell hehehehe
lol
Anyone coming from Stephen Colbert's Interview? Same material but a whole different energy. Thats how you do it Trevor! That asian malaysian bit though 😂
💯
Way better with Trevor
😄
Same here coming from Stephen. But we gotta give Stephen credits for he is from South Carolina, Trevor is from South Africa though. A person's root does define someone for as long as it takes. Stephen must be the most open-minded person from where he came from lol.
Yee
Saying "Asian Malaysian" is like saying "African Nigerian".
😂😂😂😂😂🤣
Sounds like an opponent of "The Rock" on WWF. "in this Corner the heavywieght champion from Kuala Kangsar....."The Asian Malaysian!!"
Ikr I was like he's Asian himself how did he let that happen lmao
Kamal Dahal/// very true ....or like American Canadian. Yes Yes, I know this one has a double meaning...but still...i had to say it. :-)
@@sarahdaniel9912 its a,,,joke
I was lucky enough to see this in a theater in NYC with like 99% Asian people. I missed half the dialogue in the first 1/3rd of the movie because they KEPT busting out laughing HARD. There was such Asian Joy in that place. I was full from them.
blasianFMA I love this comment
"Asian joy"....
@@JoiskiMe Yeah, sounds weird lol
Trevor is the ONLY host that doesn't ask Asian guests, "where are you from?", "where are your parents from?", "did they approve of your career choice of being in the entertainment industry?" HIGH FIVE TREVOR!! He gets it. Thank God!!
Yeah. Because all yellow or brown people are interchangeable to Americans. Funny how the biggest gripe about this movie in Singapore was its lack of representation and the cast pandering to narrow American views of race and ethnicity. Despite the film's earnest portrayal of Singapore as some miniature version of China and its erasure of other cultures and ethnicities, the film bombed in China.
Trevor is half german and half african, germans are like the white asians, so he gets it.
I think it’s mainly because if the fact that he himself is not American and coming from a country that is not always on people’s talking map.
There's nothing wrong with those questions anyways. Idk why my gen loves to give out medals for unimportant reasons.
Haha because he’s not white, those are questions that typically come from white, who think the world revolve around them.
Black woman here, but I'll be supporting this movie for the culture! We need more representation and this movie is long overdue.
High five! I will support any movie that promotes all non white casts. If i see another white girl rom com with those bland bitches who do not speak for my experience, i'm ready to rip it off.
Shine baby shine smh did you see them beating black women with brooms and throwing acetone on a black grandmother? Not to mention them harrasing us whenever we shop at their stores that are smack dab in black neighborhoods. Yet you still support their endevours? Do they support our movies " for the culture"? No. Did you see their racist comments about black panther? So WYD???
Sunshine Monroe a Black young woman also recently beat a Mexican 91 year old senior citizen with a brick and practically killed him. Are you upset about that as well? Ugly hateful people exist in all groups, but so do good, decent people. Focus on the positives and don't become jaded and bitter.
Tell me how about it!
25 mil first week! glad to see it reign the weekend
trevor noah just showed Colbert how to do an interview. Great energy and interplay, colbert take note.
Facts that was horrible
Trevor is the best at interviews

Why Korean comedian left everything behind to do standup comedy? What makes your heart beat?❤ Would you give up your stable life for something adventurous? For Kim Byung-sun, the first-ever Korean comedian to stage Spain’s Got Talent, it’s not a matter of question. “Life itself is already rocky and unstable. Better just enjoy it!” Now a KZheadr with over 630 thousand followers, he gave up everything he had and went to Spain, a completely foreign country to do standup comedy. Come and be inspired by his story! 😊 kzhead.info/sun/iL6Phs5_pqV5jHk/bejne.html
Colbert is a effing racist!!
I live in a small island somewhere in the East Caribbean and I emailed the only movie theater we have to request this movie, guess who's watching it this Friday!! Whoop!
ljeoma Wogu: Great! I'm very happy for you!
Talk about getting things done... love it honey ❤
It makes me soooo happy to see Trevor laugh
He has such a playful positive laugh!
Something a capitalist doesn't have. Capitalism killed all natural aspects of a human being.
Never seen Trevor laugh so hard and authentically
It's like the sun coming out from behind the clouds.
They're looking for a good looking guy for this role
3:50 I'm a Chinese guy grew up in Spain living in Malaysia. When I'm hanging out with local Chinese Malaysian I can totally relate what Jimmy is saying. The laugh of Trevor is just HILARIOUS!
i hope u like malaysia... love, from Malaysia
@@monsterhigh1975 Yes, I do. I love Malaysia with all my heart!
Thank you, Spanish Chinese living in Malaysia 😊
This movie was actually fucking hilarious. Definitely will rewatch sometime in the future.
I'm going to see it this coming wednesday. I want to support all the movie team
It was awesome movie lol
+Donita Meghan Don't be trashy
phenomenal movie. 2 thumbs up
One takeaway from this interview is that Trevor Noah has so much respect for every guest, their contribution and their story. His success really comes from him being a genuinely smart, well-informed, curious, interested, engaged and humble host. Great interview! And Jimmy was in his element - as always! 😍😍🙌🏼🙌🏼
he was just warming up...felt this interview ended too abruptly
Jimmy is charming AF!
Sarah Nichols ikr. Also handsome too.
Yea I tot he spoke like he did in Silicon Valley, hilarious
Before his speaking, I thought he is one of William Hung's cousin.
lisa Don't get me wrong, I admire people who have actual charm instead of just relying on good genetics/looks, but handsome? Handsome he is not.
Charming man.
First Black Panther-all Black cast💯😍😍 Now Crazy Rich Asians-All Asian cast 😍😍💙 *Yo this is freaking sexy & i love it*
I'm with you so long as an "All White cast" seem equally acceptable.
There are two white guys in black panther
Home Wall - Shut up.
There are 2 white guys in black panther

Asialaysians?
Yesssssss~ lol
i love how Trevor get all the joke and genuinely laughs and enjoys the conversation with Jimmy O. Yang
Also Trevor, good old Trevor, now my favorite talk show host, just a nice, respectful, funny person. His interviews are so good, authentic and completely impartial. He is the best.
I'm gonna use that one "pursuing your dreams is how you become homeless." 😂😂😂
and then say a chinese proverb.
Now he was the lead role in Love Hard in Netflix 🥳 it trended #1 here in the PH now and he’s very charming that’s why I’m here rn
Among the interviews Jimmy did with the various hosts, he appears to have the greatest time with Trevor. I suppose it's down to Trevor's understanding of culture differences first hand, albeit he's from culture different from Asia. Good watch
Both Jimmy and Trevor are down to earth people. That’s why this conversation becomes a chat between two close friends.
Bless you Jimmy for holding tight to your dream even though your parents believe otherwise... my Asian parents said the exact same thing as Jimmy’s dad and I was very confused and pressed..I pursued a Psychology degree in UBC which they didn’t see as a real degree and returned to Hk for law school and then was hot by having a stroke.....now, still struggling to comfort my disappointed parents as they have to deal with a child that is physically handicapped but great to find this video as he gives me the courage to continue 🙂
I'm happy for the Asian community, just like I was happy as hell my own community had Black Panther.
Now imagine the joy us Blasians feel seeing both communities represented! We need more movies like these
@@ambo9569 I can imagine the joy and happiness.

Came here after watching the Colbert late show interview of Jimmy Yang.. Maan the contrast level is off the chart.. Good job Trevor !
His book, " How to American" is totally inspiring. He worked his butt off to get to where he is, stays optimistic, and takes us along for the ride. Congratulations Jimmy O. Yang on everything you've done and will do! #RepresentationMatters
Wow to have an Asian comedian who acts in a movie that lays heavily into the culture and have a South African comedian as the host in an American setting from a little shop in Malawi is what the internet was made for. It's so wonderful to see how far they've both come.
Two of the funniest, cutest, smartest guys in entertainment... what a pleasure to watch!
Yes!! Love them both!!
I am so happy for the Asian community. It is good to see a story from a more diverse perspective. It looks like fun.
There was no diverse perspective in the movie. Asians are only 2% of the population so it makes sense that they only get 2% of screen. Go whine about white and black representation in Chinese movies. If you want "diverse perspective" then watch actual movies from Bollywood and China, which isn't very diverse at all.
@@meginna8354 You bigots have issues.

I am sorry but it's not the "Asian community", it's more like the "Chinese Community". I am Asian, and I am not Chinese or Japanese or Korean or Thai.
i moved to the states when i was 14 and a lot of the experiences and changes Jimmy went through was similar for me and for a long time i couldn't really share how it was like moving a country at that and starting a new life but after finding jimmy o. yang and his book, i finally felt like i'm not alone and there are many people whose stories are similar to mine.
He moved here when he was 13!! i thought he was born here. his english is.flawless to me.
Jimmy should get his own talk show.
I loved this movie and i was so excited when i saw Ronny Chieng like _look it's Ronny_
Both of them do standup comedy. Best show ever.
"Look Jimmy, I don't know how to tell you this properly, but ah they're LookinG for a GOOD LOOKING GUY for this role!" LOL 😂😂😂
What a great interview, excellent questions Trevor!
This is one of the BEST interviews EVER!!! 👏👏👏
Hollywood needs to make more Asian American movies!
I'm all for it. To all the boys I've loved before, which technically is not an all Asian cast but the lead role is an Asian woman and it's pretty dang good.
@@blinksstayfresh2524 I was just distracted by "To All the Boys" because Lana Condor - who plays Lara Jane - is 100% Asian, but her character is bi-racial (and her sisters are played by bi-racial actresses). They never discussed or addressed this during the movie; I kept waiting for them to say that John Corbett was not her biological dad but they never said a word.
@@allieschwarz8023 I never read the book. I need to read it.
@@blinksstayfresh2524 Same. I need to read it too. I was just thinking of the movie's cast; we know the mom (who died before the story begins) is Asian and we know that John Corbett who plays their dad is white. Then Margot is played by Janel Parrish (she's bi-racial, Chinese Mom/white dad) and Kitty is played by Anna Cathcart (like her character she's bi-racial, white & Asian though I'm not sure where her family is from irl besides living in Canada)... but then the star, Lara Jane, is played by Lana Condor who irl is 100% Vietnamese, adopted by white American parents. She's gorgeous and/but she looks completely Asian, not bi-racial (which is appropriate because her biological parents were both Vietnamese) but I found it confusing that they were so careful to cast bi-racial people to play Lara Jane's sisters while choosing someone who isn't bi-racial to play the lead. I assumed that the book talks about the family's background because it seems like it was a very specific choice to cast a white dad and bi-racial girls for two of the three sisters, but since i haven't read it I thought we would be told why Lara Jane has a different racial background from her sisters. So, when the movie never said anything at all (we aren't told Lara Jane was adopted, and there's nothing about her dad being someone else) I figured they just cast the best person for the part even though she looks nothing like the rest of the family... but I was still distracted for most of the movie, waiting for an explanation that never came for why she's not be-racial like her sisters.
Yes and no. Like Michelle Yeoh said in an interview, the context was in the lane of not making it Asian for the token purpose, but making it Asian because it fits a narrative. Crazy Rich Asians did fit the Narrative and it was great ^.^
This is such an amazing interview! I DIDNT EVEN KNOW he WROTE A BOOK. I love what’s its about and i want to purchase a copy!!
Great interview! He's well spoken.
When talking about Asians, he said "They value obedience", but when he was talking about Americans, he said "We value independence". They and we. He is more American than Asian which is expected.
Jimmy O Yang living the American dream gotta love it!!!
He even did an unintentional comedy stunt on a talk show of a comedian. Dude's a legend
thank you so much for having Jimmy Yang! I am so grateful that young Asians are finding their own voice in America, breaking away from the cultural baggages that can serve only as mental handcuff and senseless barriers to one's purpose and potential in life.
Asian-malaysian! Lol. Ronnies Wrestling name!

LOL can relate so hard to what Jimmy said about suggesting Chinese restaurants for dinner... That's literally what I say when I try to convince my white coworkers too 😂
Zocahontas Indian food is so good! They're missing out.
Seriously, where do you guys live? Who needs to be *convinced* to go eat Chinese or Indian?
Raphanne Texas lol
Indian is so good but my mouth feels like death after that i have to swim in a giant glass of mango lassi to survive T_T
Xiolinorchdork, well, that's tough. My gym is right next to a Chinese restaurant and it's an internal struggle for me everytime I go training. I have to fight the urge to go there after working out.

This is a thousand times better than Colbert's interview with Jimmy.
I already had that book on my to read list because I saw that title and I was like "Hey I am Asian and I have already heard from my parents many a time that I am a disappointment to them, this is the book for me!" This is funny stuff , Jimmy O. Yang. The Chinese food / karaoke reference is hilarious.
I enjoyed this interview when I saw it on Colbert.
Jimmy played a perfect Bernard. Exactly what I imagined reading the books. Ronnie also played an excellent Eddie. When I found out he was playing Eddie, I freaked out because I knew from watching The Daily Show it was a perfect casting. I can't wait to see how Jimmy deals with the evolution of Bernard's character through the rest of the series 😂😂😂
It would be interesting to see historical movies made about the 442nd Regimental Combat Team or a movie about the Comfort Women during WW II. These are true stories that need to be shown to the world.
Just bought your book on vinted love you man❤️
Jimmy is so talented
