What about pain white and then use the curtain for a quilt at the bottom of the bed? Then a variety of red shades for pillows and a throw blanket to tie all the shades together.

I would stick with a cream spread on the bed. Too much toile becomes overwhelming.

Stephanie I’m sure you know not to wallpaper directly over fresh sheet rock. You must put a layer of primer paint on it otherwise you would never get the wallpaper off if you ever re decorate.
I wondered why sometimes it's easy to get paper off and other times, a steaming/scraping nightmare. TY. Hope Stephanie or Mattie see as well.
As a decorator, thank you. Non prep is my bugaboo. Maybe even primer and paint, no matter that no one will see it. It saves your wall.
Yes, you've got to seal the plaster with a layer of diluted paint.

I have a couple layers at least on my walls and the previous owners just painted over it. So, I continued on and painted over the boring beige.
I would think a solid colored bedspread would be best with just a strip of the toile at the top that you can see when the bedspread is folded over.
Maybe solid colour one side and toile on the other so you can flip it and change the look?
there is the valance already in place. that adds a band of the toile from above. definitely live with it for awhile. also the age of fabric will factor in final choice. really old fabric will not wear well as a duvet used every day. whereas the crown and valance just sit there looking pretty!🦩
No that bedspread colour it’s far too orange and detracts from the beautiful pink toile canopy Stephanie. Also looks awful with the bed skirting. I think you should use the other toile curtain I don’t think it will be too matchy matchy as you said

or pick a colour that is common to all the various toiles and trim a cream or jet black bed spread with it.. or gold bed spread trimmed with color or toile...

The pool is in the future plans. It just can't come from the Patreon funds because those are strictly for the restoration of the chateau.

Yes! The color goes so well with the summer courtyard. In the Fall they could always paint it a red or black or just start it away until next Spring.

Hi Stephanie, Michael has a new drapery and clothing designer now in residence at the Petherick chateau. You should get him to make you some beautiful period dresses and draperies. He does a wonderful job.
Stefanie by & in the pool took me back to my childhood. Had aunts who would take a group of us children to beaches, but carefully pinned their hair up and stayed very briefly in the water that went no further than their waists. Happy days.
Yes! Same in the 60's and then there was the 70's when they would do the same but the comments on the "younger" generations attire were quite opinionated and string. LOL. My one aunt probably wore a girdle under her swimsuit and would be shocked at the nudity of the 70's. Fond memories indeed.
I think a plain cream bedspread would look very elegant... less is more.

the view of sundown, shown somewhere close to 22:26, was absolutely breathtaking. there are many scenes that touch my soul at Lalande, but this particular one is so strikingly beautiful, as it shows the distance scenery, the miles, and the atmosphere. the orange-red seems to give a glow and a pensive feeling. this scene would make such wonderful stationery. it is easy to see the differences of Lalande and its gifts of beauty, the quest for excellence, the love of all things beautiful, the worth of the work, toil, and time. one can see the pay of real sacrifices and the good planning to make dreams come true. i follow and observe so many others, and i see their endeavors---or lack thereof---and i realize why they fail to succeed. they simply just don't put in the time, work, or planning for really successful out comes. i think Lalande is the real deal and will be around for many years to come.

I wish we had antique shops and fairs that offer the china and linens like this where I live in Pennsylvania. I want to come to Lalande just to shop. But I have to get a passport first.
I've been to a few garage/lawn sales in the Andover, NJ area and found wonderful china and linens and things like that. I try to get up there at least once in summer. They are listing in local news paper or internet. Check it out. Of course things might be a little bit different this year because of COVID-19. I didn't go last year nor this year.
You should try estate sales, I have found incredible bargains including Limoges at incredible prices.

Depending on where you are in OA...I can tell you that if in Franklin County, go right across the line to MD, for an annual "Mile Ling" yard sale (which is Mile's and Mile's) that offers vintage, antique, new, old & ugly etc etc.. Or, if near Lancaster, PA - well, you couldn't complain but my best f send and I know ALL the spots in the Tri-State area We used to go weekly (now down to monthly). I cannot wait to see the China room and the downstairs loo finished. I am a bit disturbed by the fact that I am almost as excited about those renovations as I am about my own. It might be better to go with a solid cream bed cover with the fold on the underside the pink curtain fabric. If it gets too busy your eye won’t have a place to rest to appreciate the beautiful fabrics already there.

Living in Amsterdam, late 60S, early 70S, we considered the cabbage dishes very chic. Nice to see them again and still very chic! 😍
I have an idea for your crumbling outdoor terrace. 1) Demo the entire crumbling lot and salvage as much of the original stone as possible. 2) Pour a new footing around the perimeter of the terrace and build new cinder block walls from the footing up to the height of the terrace railing cap stone height. 3) Pour an angled cement support structure for the stairs, then build cinder block walls on footings on either side up to the stair case railing cap stone height. Angle the top to match the angle of your stairs. 4) Build the floor of the terrace with steel decking, install drains along the new cinder block railing leaving room for the fascia stone, then pour a stamped concrete deck on top that resembles flagstone or cobble stone. 5) Install the original stone steps by setting them into cement on top of the new angled cement support structure. 7) Clad the cinder block walls with your salvaged stone then finish the tops of your terrace stone railings with cap stones. 8) I would also suggest incorporating lamp posts in the corners of the terrace and on either side of the staircase. The lamp posts and electrical would have to be installed at the same time the cinder block walls are being built. This will provide a stable structure that will last for another 200+ years. It will maintain the original historical appearance and provide a dry storage room underneath for your garden tools, and winter storage for your outdoor furniture. I am looking at buying a Property in Spain to escape the Canadian Winters and get back to my European Roots, if I manage to make that purchase I would love to take a side trip to visit you and your Beautiful Chateau.

The side curtains look great - my vote is for a "spread made to match the side curtains" and then line that spread with a solid "dark wine/burgundy" material that will match the "back" panel and the bed skirt...this way - when folded back...the color will pick up and bring it all together...so my vote from Virginia is "make a new spread from the side curtain material lined with solid color as the red/wine/burgundy in the bed skirt and crown back panel...lets see what you decide...enjoy !

Dan's drone footage over Lalande is amazing. The grounds are beautiful due to his hard work and Stephanie's vision. I love the place and all the people. They've been good sports in allowing us into their work and fun. Have any other patrons had trouble with not being able to view the footage e mailed? It keeps saying I should join to see but my account shows I've paid every month.
May I suggest messaging from the Stephanie's Patreon page, it's likely to get picked up on right away.
Sometimes it logs you out. So you still get the email with the video but to do anything else you need to re log into patreon. Hope this helps

I love the bedspread but I think it's a bit too orangy red to go with the beautiful bed crown. I loved seeing everyone gathering at the little pool. I think a pool would be an amazing plus to have for the guests as well as those who live and work at La Lande. Just think of all of the fun parties you could have around a pool theme. Whenever I travel I always look for somewhere that has a pool because it is my favourite form of relaxation as well as exercise. It's obvious that everyone would love to have one. I didn't realize that peacock's molt their tales every summer. That was a shock to me. I thought something awful had happened to poor Thor and was worried that another dog attack had taken place. Glad to know it's just mother nature having her way. Much love to you all.

For the bed spread... I would go for a cream or off white fabric and have the edges done in toile de jui beading. All the toile de jui is starting to become to much.

Do you freeze all the vegetables? If you put a little olive oil in a ice tray and put basil into it or Rosemary or any herb then freeze. Pop out of ice tray then put in a sealed container or zip lock bag then keep in freezer anytime you cook then take one of those cubes and used
I do this! But I pop them out and put them in a ziplock bag so they don’t get frozen water particles because then it spits in the pan :)

If you’ve lots of left over toile de jouy you can save them for wide curtain ties all around the room. Also a simple white or eggshell linnen curtain with a wide panel trim to of toile on the vertical would look lovely,it would match but not become too much or too heavy looking. Pool party was hilarious 😂 Love those rings!
A foolproof hiccup cure is to hold your breath and swallow three times (without inhaling in-between)...it's actually quite difficult to do. If it doesn't work the first time, do it again. It has never failed me! :)
You could always use the other curtain folded at the end of the bed for usable decor, think Ralph Lauren with layers of mix and match. Then use a solid or stripe or something with a texture for the main spread
I have to say it is always a joy to go on your shopping trips to the charity shops. The finds are always amazing and seem so well priced compared to the antique shops near us.
The orangey bedspread is a little too orange. Tinting it with a little pink might help but it might make it worse too. What might work best though would be a soft cream or off white with no pattern whatsoever. It would make the bed crown and valence shine. It would also allow you to add whatever toile cushions as accents on the bed. Maybe another person could send you another pool? Imagine having a foursome of pools.....there'd be enough room in each for the Lalanders to cool off every day and loads of room for the inflatables too. Cheers!
