    • ikr its the way i wish people would behave themselves irl around me. like whats the rush. why cant people enjoy silence, and save all their rambling for text. in text it wont go nowhere. its eternalized. its noiseless. you can read or not read it at liesure. but speaking is noise it is a thought interrupter if you have too much outer dialogue, you have little internal dialogue. vice versa. But having internal dialogue means you can think, and would be better at planning, and these 2 guys are smart n trying to play mental chess so in this situation they have to play smart, and speak this way because they have to. But honestly its a polite way to converse in general. People should be allowed time to meditate so that they can keep the unutterable unuttered, unexplainable unexplained, save you the bullshit and only vocalize the key point without an "uh" or stutter. Some people repeat themselves and say the same thing in 3 different ways over the course of a minute because they are using outer dialogue to simulate the main point in the same way inner dialogue could've simulated it. If they are outer only, it seems they are making noise because they legitimately are addicted to hearing their own voice. They end up in a loop where they are stuck on a thought because it keeps being externally casted instead of being left in the mental oven to develop and finish cooking, but they don't want the thought to cook because it means they no longer have whitenoise in their surrounding air. Its amazing to me how I can spend six hours with someone in person and they will speak a gillion words a minute, and by the end of the night , I realized there is not a damn thing that person said of substance. in contrast someone can only speak a phrase to me at a certain point in time. When it becomes relevant again, I remember it up to 20 years later like they had just got done saying it. It takes more time to speak and listen to others speak than it does to type and read. Little known fact. So why spend hours talking about nothing? When you could type SOMETHING? Making sounds with your mouth just for the sake of it isn't human communication. It is reasons like this I hate hanging out with a large crowd of friends. All of us could be intelligent in our own ways and interesting well spoken people. Put each other in a group and all we can seem to talk about is the same inane drivel we could've talked about with any other crowd and the entire night is just pointless jibber jabber smalltalk and "iknoooowwwriiiiiiite?!?!" And giggling at things that weren't funny because the Big Bang Theory Laugh Track has wormed it's way into unconscious behavioral patterns deep within our NPC code; laughing at our own jokes to hint at others a sense of "that was a punchline btw"

  • Its interesting, the internal monologues sort of normalize Light to the viewer, and make the battle of wits feel much more even. When you remove the connection to Light and see him objectively like this though, it makes him seem far more suspicious and less proficient. L really was running circles around him.

    @tinfoilslacks3750@tinfoilslacks37508 ай бұрын
    • Tbh like this the cat and mouse game becomes even clearer. L was running circles around him but Light still said stuff like at the end of the clip abt making Kira say something only he could know, cuz he knows L can’t know about the death note

      @deansbian5607@deansbian56076 ай бұрын
    • Inner monologues arguably made it even worse. Light is so confident and knows what to say. Then L just beats him at it like a child. In this scene L was the one who had Light in his grasp. If he was willing to risk, he could capture him and Misa right now. He didn't know who is the second Kira, but a wild guess would prove correct when the killings would stop and never continue. L could even guess that Light keeps the note in a special place which would destroy it if you don't know how to operate the lock. And find a way to retrieve it carefully. Then everything would be over.

Meanwhile during scenes like this that make Light look guilty as hell L is like "hmm i guess this makes you like 2% more likely to be kira, anyway wanna join the investigation team?"

Light was the one who made them write the letters so he is the one who truly understands the meaning. The reason he didn’t ask for more was because he himself knew that there wasn’t more which was entirely the point of L’s trap in this scene, because only Kira himself would know for certain that there were only 3 notes

The plot of the movie is the big case he's given during that time. Usually, he does this by revealing a small piece of evidence, like some gum, or a bit of dust, or a small piece of hair. In this case, L's small piece of evidence was Light's assumption there were only three notes -- unlike in Columbo, however, L recognizes his evidence might not stand up in court. • A simple explanation that doesn’t make it more complicated than it is: Essentially… Only three notes were left by Kira, and only Kira himself, the police, and L know that, no-one else should know for-certain how many notes Kira left. So, anyone else would see the three-notes and realize that, when placed in numerical-order, the message is incomplete, so they’d probably ask if there was a fourth-note. However, since Light IS Kira, he knows there are only three-notes and that they aren’t intended to be read in numerical-order. So instead of asking if there are more-notes he says, “The numerical-order doesn’t make sense, Kira must’ve made a mistake and you have to read them out of order to get the message.” (Solving the message of the three-notes, while using reasoning to not seem suspicious). However, L pulls out a fourth-note. This is actually a fake-note, but if Light were innocent he wouldn’t know that. The fourth-note, when placed in numerical-order with the others, finishes the message. L then goes, “If you weren’t Kira, you would’ve asked if there was a fourth-note to finish the sentence. However, you seemed certain that there were only three-notes, and that the sentence HAD to make sense using only those three-notes. Only Kira, the police, and I know there are only three-notes, so you must be Kira.”

    • This is what people who think that this test is dumb is missing. L tells Light that these notes were written by criminals under the control of Kira which could imply that these are the only notes they got SO FAR. Meaning, they could potentially get more. Honestly, the smart move for Light would be to ask what the numbers mean or where they are from since L did say they were photographed. It's pretty important since it could indicate the order Kira wanted the notes to be read in or what the police thinks the correct order should be. This could also provide a better reason/excuse as to why Light disregarded the numerical order version.

The way he says they're "interesting" makes him seem way too familiar with them, the fact he "deduced" the exact scenario Kira faced L with almost instantly is just a huge nail in Lights coffin.

    @mattb9343@mattb9343 Жыл бұрын
    • I don't think so. To me, this was a test within a test. On the surface, L is testing Light's deductive reasoning. After all, being interested in becoming a detective as a gifted, brilliant highschool student makes his interest and lack of revulsion seem fine. The real test though, to L, is figuring out if Light's personality and ego match that of what he's deduced Kira's to be. That's why he tells Light that he got the question wrong. If Light is Kira, or if he really is just a gifted student, he figures out the puzzle correctly. Fine. But if he reacts defensively (my deduction was perfect), especially under the immense pressure of "revealing something only Kira could know," his personality and ego match that of Kira's. Light isn't dumb, he sees this coming and concedes the test appropriately. But his first instinct, the one L is looking for, is to get defensive. He can't hang Light with this. As he points out later in the same conversation, Light's odds of being Kira to L only go up a couple of points here. But if you're L, faced with a killing power unlike anything seen in human history that allows for total anonymity*, this is a MAJOR win in his book.

At best, Light isn't as smart as he seemed, and at worst, he knew there weren't any more letters because he wrote them.

      @Di7manya@Di7manya Жыл бұрын
    • @@LonnyH The actual test was that Kira actually wrote those first 3 messages. The fourth one is fake. At this point L knew Kira's personality very well, so he made a trap for Light. He gave Light notes numbered 1 to 3. If Light had no previous knowledge of those notes, the first thing he would be expected to try is to order them 1 to 3. That would leave an incomplete message. If he ordered them correctly, however, he would get a sentence that makes sense. As such, if Light had no previous knowledge, his best possible answer would be "These messages are encoded, if you arrange them by what makes sense, it reads as follows, but if you order them by the numbers on the back the message seems incomplete. Either these numbers were another misdirection, or they have another meaning, or there is a fourth message that wasn't found". But, Light is Kira so he KNOWS there is no fourth message. Thus, he makes the careless mistake of taking that knowledge only Kira should have into account. Because he knows he only wrote 3, there is no possible fourth message. The only correct order is the one that makes gramatical sense, and the numbers were a misdirection made by L. But that's a conclusion only Kira could reach, no other sane person who could figure out that much would make such a wild assumption at the expense of clear evidence. To add salt to injury, Light argues back. He feels cheated because he knows there is no fourth message, and his childish side doesn't accept "losing" that little game in such an unfair way. Of course, Light manages to slip out of this situation, and none of it was sufficient conclusive evidence that Light was Kira. Even if absolutely small, there was the chance that Light simply made a mistake and believed that L gave him all the information, and then was angry to fail. it's not as if only Kira and L are childish. But it does help to justify L's belief and his later actions.

  • This scene is actually genius. If L had continued, Light would've been caught right there. He presents 3 photos trying to see if Light slips and tells something the public couldn't know. Light is well aware of that so he tries to play safe. The genius is that L is aware that Light, if Kira, is well aware of L's perceived attempt, and moves accordingly through the scene. So L presents 3 photos. Light, if Kira, wants to get in the task force to get L's identity, so he needs to impress him, but at the same time doesn't want to be cornered. So Light doesn't easily give the true hidden message, as he realizes the pages numbers were a trap set by L (only Kira would straight disregard the fake numbering). Though, because he's petty and competitive, and wants to join, he still gives the true message with the caveat of believing the "true" numbering renders them wrong (which would imply Kira is dumb and got sloppy with his 3 part letters). Arrogantly, he believes he just did a good job there. Then L shits on him and throws one out a left field: a 4th fake picture, and asks "why were you so certain there were only 3 pics in the first place?🤔" So either Light says the fourth is a fake (and game's over), or he admits he was indeed acting under a suspicious certainty that there were only 3 pics - that was the true trap, not the numbers. He's mad cornered already, but it doesn't stop there. L then says "You know what? This whole routine I did, I also've done it to all task members, but you're the only one who deduced everything so fast". Light was soo busy trying to not slip in front of L's traps, that he forgot to act his age and occupation (student), outpacing every professional in a special task force. That was another metatrap going on from the start. Light even says "well, I sure look suspicious now, ain't I?", and starts to back off from the corner he's in. He tries to _deflect_ by saying "but this information doesn't help catching Kira anyways so..", but L ain't done and straight out throws another bone: "I want you in the secret task force, where you can get close to my name and identity". Light, fumbled, has to either deny but not for no reason, or has to accept, but not too eagerly. So he opts to deny, justifying "I would, but I don't want to be at risk.. cus maybe _you're_ Kira". He goes in a whole rant of misdirection here to paint L as Kira, as an attempt to both deflect the corner he's in and to parse out if this dude is truly L or just sent by him. "You won't even show me the team or if you, Ryuuka, is truly L, or if L's really there, just because I can't prove you I ain't Kira. So nah, the deal is off". L, though, ain't done profiling, so he says "wait.. I don't remember ever saying I wouldn't show you the team. In fact, I'l take you there right now if you say you want it". Kira didn't know how to act and was saved by his dad having a random heart attack, ending L's barrage. L and Kira are not equals in intellect at all, L was just working against paranormal bs. Basically time "freezes" so that we can get the thought processes spelled out to us the dumb dumb audience, but because these two are geniuses, the actual monologue happens in a flash, so no awkward pauses like this... just my thoughts. Edit: lots of pseudo-intellectuals in the responses, acting like this this an obvious assumption. @Another_El_User@Another_El_User Жыл бұрын
    • @Lecherous Lizard this became longer than I meant it to become. I am so sorry. Only Kira and the police know how many notes there are. Light ignores the labeled numbers (1,2, and 4) on the back, saying the order doesn't make sense. Now, here is where some knowledge of written Japanese is helpful. In Japanese, using a string of kanji can mean something very different than the individual kanji. Plus, they write from top to bottom in columns and then move right to left. Unlike in English, where we move left to right and then down the page. This changes the number of possibilities of what the fake note could contain to complete the message. With that in mind, Light became so paranoid about being tested that he implemented himself by not asking for a note labeled 3. Again, only the police and Kira know there are only 3 real notes. A perfect deduction would have concluded with either asking for the final note or saying it's an incomplete message. However Light insisted that the message was complete. L used the limited scope of public knowledge to see how a genius soon-to-be detective will respond to the information given. Since Light didn't ask for a note labeled 3 and operated on the assumption that there wasn't another note, an assumption Kira would make, that is why L increased the possibility of Light being Kira, but only by 3%.

  • As a regular person (with about 3 years of criminal justice as an elective) my first conclusion to seeing the notes would be that Kira's victims somehow know that they're going to die. Then, I would ask about whether any of them had any visitors beforehand, check the alibis of people who interacted with them, etc. I would think that Kira has grown cocky and decided to taunt the investigators. I wouldn't worry about some sort of code in the messages until that lead has gone cold. Of course, with a team I would delegate analysis of the letters just in case, but in this situation I wouldn't have one. Light had no reason to automatically assume that there was a code. While there is a precedent of killers sending coded letters, there is also a precedent of them sending regular letters. Not only that, but Kira has been shown to be extremely cocky and brash. His first kill was clearly impulsive. If he had truly thought it through, he would've gone for a major public figure, such as Putin, because they have many enemies and their name and face is widely known. The same thing with the timing of the kills. He was clearly overconfident, not even considering that people might realize the connection between the deaths and his schedule as a student. It makes perfect sense that he would send regular letters to taunt the investigators, as he has shown that he feels very confident and secure in his identity not being figured out. That also adds to why I would investigate everyone who interacted with the victims because his confidence could have led him to meeting the victims personally beforehand. After all, they're not going to catch him, right? And his ego would also add to the appeal of such a thing because being able to meet with victims, tell them what to write, and then evade capture would be just the kind of thing that someone like him would enjoy.

    • I agree with everything but, he doesn't need to met with them to get them to write stuff. the death note can make someone do anything (within logical reason) including writing something again within logical reasoning all without meeting face to face. Light only needed a name and face. Its explained better in the anime but, basically they can't write something they don't know but its possible to take common knowledge to manipulate what could be said to make a hidden message its a loophole. The reason kira needed someone like L was due to the fact he was nearly untraceable i mean you would know if something like the death note was real most normal methods would be useless
