  • Wow I have never seen Paolini play better than she did in those last three games. Incredible!

    • She had to risk it all because she was afraid the cramp could hit again much closer to the last point. That cramp was legit and it can go away. Even non-professional athletes and average people have them and it goes away, but at this level you can never over-risk.

  • Kerber did better than I anticipated. I don’t think people realize how hard it is after being away for so long and from child birth. Plus Paolini is a worth opponent. I don’t think people were expecting her to win. The bookies def weren’t thinking she’d win.

    • i think paolini went abt it the right way, it was obvious that paolini was extremely lucky as well that she was only playing kerber who was giving her good balls to unleash on. if she was versing a powerful player who was gonna move her around after her injury it wouldve been a lot hardee for her. paolini wasted no time in conceding the games and getting on with it and even said sorry to kerber, kerber was just laughing at how hard paolini was hitting it and thats kinda all u can do it was crazy lol

    @hashworld9836@hashworld98364 ай бұрын
    • this is different, paolini wasnt really able to run thats why she was blasting the ball as hard as she can, she got lucky as she wouldnt be able to hit like that against a different player, kerber gave her some easy balls to unleash on, but paolinis level of hitting after her injury was only because she couldnt move properly. if a player hit that hard every ball they would make a lot of errors and probably get exhausted after 3 games lol

    • Says the MALE who has never pushed a baby out of his body, taken care of it and your spouse, & then trained hard enough to come back 18 months later to play competitive tennis. Oh, and who knows if she was breastfeeding during any of that time either. Great ignorant comment though, dude. 👍👍

      @vickiego1@vickiego14 ай бұрын
    • @@vickiego1 having a baby has nothing to do with it. Kerber lost her momentum and her level of play was not the same. happens a lot in WTA when opponent has issues and the other player loses concentration, Ons beat Pliskova in the middle east, Wozniaki famously cramped and still won, even in ATP this happens

  • Usually, cramp did only last for a couple of minutes. Literally numbed you even for the regular ones, but after 10 minutes or so, you're good to go. But pretty sure in normal tournament, she would have to forfeit the match since you cannot ask MTO for cramps and it was in the middle of an even game too at 3-2 where they didn't have to switch end. That's why Jasmine was penalized for that treatment to be 3-4, but I don't think a Tour match will be this lenient tbh. Still great hitting from Jasmine in the last 3 games though

    • its happened before in a wta tournament in shenzhen. xinyu wang vs sharapova. sharapova was leading in the second set 3-2 and wang got cramps midway through the game. she forfeited the rest of the games to the changeover to receive treatment but had to retire anyways. sharapova ended up winning the match 6-7 5-2 retirement.

    • I always thoughed cramps were not allowed to be treated in official tennis match. But Kudos to Paolini's bravoure to face a pusher like Kerber on one leg without giving up.

      @jonizefox@jonizefox4 ай бұрын
    • Hi i am an umpire, she didn't took an MTO, she just received a treatment at the changeover (so only 90 seconds, and not 3 minutes). Also in a tour match is possible to concede the remaining games until the changeover. You can't call an mto for cramps, in fact the player can not be touched from his captain like in the video, but only by the therapist, after he understands that this are effectively cramps, and after the player agreed to concede the remaining games .

    • You can only get cramp treatment at a change of ends. As she needed to receive some cramp treatment she had to concede the 2 games before the next change of ends

      @samfitzpatrick7891@samfitzpatrick78914 ай бұрын
    • cramp is considered a form of fatigue or lack of preperation, it isnt an actual injury. you need to treat it on a changeover, so paolini was asked if she wanted to continue without getting treatment straight away or she could give kerber the 2 games to make it a changeover and receive treatment which she did. players have done it before, i remember xinyu wang giving sharapova 2 free games when she was cramping in shenzhen open to get treatment

      @patriciabazzi6532@patriciabazzi65324 ай бұрын
  • Seems to me that if you get injured and get a massage you are potentially better off than a tired opponent who has to sit and wait and stiffen up. Maybe whenever there is an injury timeout, the non injured player should also get a rubdown for the same amount of time?
