Flying an UNPRESSURIZED SMALL AIRPLANE As High as The Airlines
On this flight from Rogers, AR to Boca Raton I was able to do the 1,080 mile journey in a single flight by riding the tailwind at 24,000 feet.
How can the pilot survive in an unpressurized airplane that high? Enjoy...

When your blood starts boiling, you know you are too high.
Oxazepam65 😏🌲🌲 04/20/2020
Not realy when the sky starts turning black and you see a big blue ball you are too high
MrHasie incorrect, Armstrong’s limit, above which your blood boils.
Blood will begin to boil at about 60K-62K feet. Military pilots wear pressurized suits above 59K feet, for non-military pilots it's 49K feet. Breathing pure O2 through an unsealed mask at 39K feet delivers the same partial O2 pressure as 20% O2 at 11,800 feet. Above that altitude, the mask must be sealed and delivering pure 02 at a higher pressure.
@JW Skeptic that’s why the Learjet can only go up to FL490, it’s so that the pilots don’t have to wear pressure suits in case of depressurization.
time to re-evaluate your pilot career when your flying a 737 and you have an SR cruising above you
hahahaha
25k is the cruise for a 737 with one of the cabin air packs offline, normal cruise is about 35k. Besides that I cruise a c150 over jets all the time(all planes are at 0 agl some point in their flight.)

His aircrafts registration had a Z in it which is why it's used a lot.
Yeah, you didn't notice the African beat? D:
Yes... "Zulu" is the aviation/military term for zed (Z)... Alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, echo... All the way to "zulu"... Also, in aviation/military, "zulu" is a time format... So 1:00pm would be 1300 zulu...
Too complicated

Awesome 24,000 in a single engine, not just an ordinary airplane. Great video.
Roy D that’s what makes a TBM so special
Roy D Back in the "Bad Old Days" we flew our Turbocharged high performance singles at 28,000 to as high as 35,000 lots of times. It was to get the best possible tail wind, thus shorten the trip!
8000m altitude was the "all days" work from the allied raids over germany during WW2, and some WW2 reconnaissance aircrafts fly up to 12000m...all use specific superchargers to maintain the engine power at higher altitudes...
Several years ago a man in South Florida flew a World War II P-51 Mustang to 42,500 feet breaking the record for that aircraft since the 1940s . No pressurization just wearing his oxygen mask

I really enjoy your videos and your entire approach to aviation. Over my flying career, I’ve spent 10,000+ hours in the flight levels, so I am qualified to make some suggestions. Suggestion #1: Even though you’re not required to have the high altitude endorsement, you do have to have the knowledge that is associated with it. I strongly recommend that you get it sooner rather than later if you’re going to be flying up there. Suggestion #2: You NEED to spend some quality time in an altitude chamber. You can find several KZhead videos showing how insidious hypoxia can be. One of the common symptoms is a feeling of well being, but everyone has their personal response to it. You need to know what yours are and the only safe way to find out is in an altitude chamber. The FAA sponsors clinics all across the country. Seriously, you need to do this it will open your eyes. Also not, that the chambers only take you to 25,000 ft so the effects are what you are exposing yourself to in your Cirrus. Suggestion #3: I highly recommend you carry a small backup O2 bottle and mask. They’re not expensive and can save your keister in the event a problem with your built in system. They’ll provide you with enough O2 to get you safely down to a breathable altitude. Finally, I didn’t see that you switched to 29.92 climbing through FL180, but as a CFII, I’ve got to mention it. All that being said, I congratulate you on your professional approach to flying.
Thanks Ward, you are absolutely correct about all that and my flying requires as much knowledge of the topic and backups as possible. As far as std QNH I did and I think you can see it on 1 clip when I was just passed 18,000. This airplane does not let you forget it either. It annunciates it

Nice video as usual. Thanks for sharing and summarizing a long flight that well.
This reminds me when I was learning to fly and I was up with another student and an instructor. We were way out and started heading back. Our instructor is the kind of guy to not say much after he is confident and just go over stuff later. So the student lines up to land but we are still 40 miles from the airport. He switches over to the tower and tells them he is on a four-zero mile final. Haha. They said, "Thats nice. Switch back to ATC" LMAO!! Our instructor laughed the entire flight back. He said, "A forty mile final, huh? I bet the guys in the tower will love to meet you when we get back".
gchsbus what does this mean to a non pilot lol?
@@Elguapo93 basicly the student called his mom just to say "mom, i'll start heading home in 2 hours."
@@Elguapo93 Well no, not exactly what that other person said. Basically while you are flying in controlled airspace, you are talking to ATC (air traffic control). When you are landing, you are talking to the tower at a particular airport you are landing at. In mostly all cases, in controlled airspace, there is a point when you are close enough to your destination airport where ATC will hand you off to the tower and begin your final approach to land. Now, 40 miles from the airport would NOT be an ideal hand off time because you still have many miles to fly and be monitored by the ATC before you even think about landing. This is why it was funny. Usually, 7 to 10 miles out is the maximum in most cases but there is no set number. Depends on the air space, the airport, weather conditions, type of aircraft, and the confidence of the pilot. Switching over to the tower frequency when you are 40 miles out will let the tower know, they have an amateur on their hands and they need to watch them closely. Its a very stupid thing to do.
gchsbus thankyou for that detailed response.. i appreciate that and im sure others reading will also.. thankyou.
