Flying an UNPRESSURIZED SMALL AIRPLANE As High as The Airlines

2019 ж. 16 Мам.
1 242 376 Рет қаралды

On this flight from Rogers, AR to Boca Raton I was able to do the 1,080 mile journey in a single flight by riding the tailwind at 24,000 feet.
How can the pilot survive in an unpressurized airplane that high? Enjoy...

That, and pilots flying above 50,000 feet need a space suit. The International Space Station flies almost 30 times that high. His Cessna-like aircraft would almost certainly be ripped and burned apart by the atmosphere.

Breathing pure O2 through an unsealed mask at 39K feet delivers the same partial O2 pressure as 20% O2 at 11,800 feet. Above that altitude, the mask must be sealed and delivering pure 02 at a higher pressure.

  • I really enjoy your videos and your entire approach to aviation. Over my flying career, I’ve spent 10,000+ hours in the flight levels, so I am qualified to make some suggestions. Suggestion #1: Even though you’re not required to have the high altitude endorsement, you do have to have the knowledge that is associated with it. I strongly recommend that you get it sooner rather than later if you’re going to be flying up there. Suggestion #2: You NEED to spend some quality time in an altitude chamber. You can find several KZhead videos showing how insidious hypoxia can be. One of the common symptoms is a feeling of well being, but everyone has their personal response to it. You need to know what yours are and the only safe way to find out is in an altitude chamber. The FAA sponsors clinics all across the country. Seriously, you need to do this it will open your eyes. Also not, that the chambers only take you to 25,000 ft so the effects are what you are exposing yourself to in your Cirrus. Suggestion #3: I highly recommend you carry a small backup O2 bottle and mask. They’re not expensive and can save your keister in the event a problem with your built in system. They’ll provide you with enough O2 to get you safely down to a breathable altitude. Finally, I didn’t see that you switched to 29.92 climbing through FL180, but as a CFII, I’ve got to mention it. All that being said, I congratulate you on your professional approach to flying.

    @wardholbrook1478@wardholbrook14785 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks Ward, you are absolutely correct about all that and my flying requires as much knowledge of the topic and backups as possible. As far as std QNH I did and I think you can see it on 1 clip when I was just passed 18,000. This airplane does not let you forget it either. It annunciates it

  • This reminds me when I was learning to fly and I was up with another student and an instructor. We were way out and started heading back. Our instructor is the kind of guy to not say much after he is confident and just go over stuff later. So the student lines up to land but we are still 40 miles from the airport. He switches over to the tower and tells them he is on a four-zero mile final. Haha. They said, "Thats nice. Switch back to ATC" LMAO!! Our instructor laughed the entire flight back. He said, "A forty mile final, huh? I bet the guys in the tower will love to meet you when we get back".

    • @@Elguapo93 Well no, not exactly what that other person said. Basically while you are flying in controlled airspace, you are talking to ATC (air traffic control). When you are landing, you are talking to the tower at a particular airport you are landing at. In mostly all cases, in controlled airspace, there is a point when you are close enough to your destination airport where ATC will hand you off to the tower and begin your final approach to land. Now, 40 miles from the airport would NOT be an ideal hand off time because you still have many miles to fly and be monitored by the ATC before you even think about landing. This is why it was funny. Usually, 7 to 10 miles out is the maximum in most cases but there is no set number. Depends on the air space, the airport, weather conditions, type of aircraft, and the confidence of the pilot. Switching over to the tower frequency when you are 40 miles out will let the tower know, they have an amateur on their hands and they need to watch them closely. Its a very stupid thing to do.

  • Just found you and definitely subscribing! I love flying and I love what pilots do. I work in a aviation for a living but don’t get to fly like I would like to. I use to fly small hop flights with my uncle in his four seater Cessna single prop plane and it was awesome flying with him and hearing the chat between ATC and the pilot. Great videos good flight and good day!

  • I just found this video on my KZhead recommendations and this is one of the best 16 minutes I've spent watching a video I'm no expert when it comes to aviation *(played flight simulator X as a kid from 2006 to about 2012)* but it seems you're very good at it and you enjoy it. subbed and I'll definitely keep watching the videos as they're uploaded.

  • Very smooth flight and video.. This gives me an insight into what single engined fighter pilots during WW2 had to endure.. they would routinely fly at 30,000ft+ to have that height advantage for combat..and this they would repeat sometimes 4 times a day, incredible.. Much appreciate the effort you put into these videos
