DISASTER AVERTED! Sheared Centerlink Replacement on my Duramax Diesel Truck
I am so glad I checked my truck over before hitting the road!
Today we are tearing into my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with a 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel and a 5 Speed Allison Transmission.
I discovered that the center link on my CST lift kit had sheared in half, so were ripping it out and replacing it with a fresh assembly. Were also fine tuning some other steering components while were in there.

Sage is getting so big haha, can’t wait for the new project
She just broke 40 lbs!!!
Me too I’m super excited
Sheesh good thing you caught it in time, good work man 🤘
Thanks Franky! She’s runnin so good now, just got it aligned. Pumped to show off the next project! Got a fishing video comin out today too
Loading up the dog to pull the truck into the garage lol
Lolol yeah I’m always worried she’s gunna slip underneath a tire, she’s not old enough to be trusted unsupervised when I’m moving around the yard
26:13 Alec, you might be using an adjustable wrench, but at least you know which direction the tool is strongest💪🏽 and to never put the torque on the adjustable jaw. I am always yelling at videos when I see tools used improperly!
Oof, can't live without that air hammer! Great work Alec, I admire your courage on taking this job! My wife drives an SUV, but I'm not touching that. Too big (and complicated) for me :)
With an air hammer, anything is possible! 🤣 appreciate the comment my friend
Good as new 👍
Sure is driving like it! At the alignment shop as I write this comment
Thats a badass truck
As long as he never takes it to a city. That's a death machine. Americans are nuts!
Thanks andrew! @vyker I used to drive this bad boy in the city all the time, used to be my daily commuter! 🤣
You made the repair look easy as usual. I really like the truck it's a bad rig.
Thanks Johnny! I’m really loving my truck again too now that it’s fixed
Getting it aligned right now as I write this
I'm working on guitars and making youtube videos as I learn that skill, but I also have been a pressure washer contractor, dishwasher repair person, I had to update the wiring on the dw so that's the electrical hat, I'm building a deck, etc etc. Definitely prefer doing it myself but sometimes things can be intimidating. Oh my computer crashed this week so I had to wipe and reinstall everything, damn windows updates! So much cheaper to learn and fix, and sometimes break trying to fix...but it all is living. live and learn.
You’re really doing it all! Great feeling once you do accomplish a new task. New knowledge achieved! Gotta love it. Keep up the hard work friend!
Better than paying someone else
I’m a BMW DIY’r but enjoyed this one nonetheless! Keep at it and looking forward to your next project!
Thank you! Means a lot
You should definitely work on other makes and model especially like mercedes and audi in the future. Don’t be afraid to tackle them most vehicle will be similar and you’ll get more viewers and subscribers that’s for sure.
I think I will! I do have a soft spot for BMW after my time at the shop. I may dabble with some other German manufacturers too
How are you so country & live in Cally? 😂😂 I like it. 😂😂 those air hammers are amazing. I was scared to use mine.
I’m not destined to stay in CA, hoping to check out Oregon and Washington soon
@@DayOffDIY you would do great out there. You could find so many things to build or fix. Washington would be too much rain for me. Sage is getting big. 😜
I insist on flatbed tow trucks only. Now we all will, now that we know better. Also I never park my car on grass. Tow truck number 1. It rained.
Yup! This was a flat bed too, but truck wasn’t running, I was busy in the shop and he threw the winch hook onto my center link and steering stabilizer 🫣
I'm considering taking up welding? lol
Why not just weld it back?
Mmm, due to the location next to that brace, lack of welder, figured replace it so I don’t have to do it twice. Feel better with a new assembly
American truck have metric system? Men you really need lift!
Yeah I do, can’t wait to get a lift. In my experience, older American trucks used standard but most newer trucks are all metric
First!
Second!
You guys are awesome, always appreciate the support. MVP! MVP!
