Locally, we have a man who was driving drunk and hit a 10 year old girl driving her bicycle. From what I understand, she was thrown into the ditch and the bike got caught on his car and he dragged it for over a kilometre. She passed away (horrifically, it likely was not instant), and he just drove home. When he was initially questioned, he tried saying it was his girlfriend that was driving and they hit a deer. His story then changed to he was driving, and again, he “thought he hit a deer” (remember, he drug the bike under his car for over a kilometre). He also reported being sober when drinking, but as he went home immediately after, he said he ‘drank a few beer’ upon getting home to ‘relax’, so when he was questioned after by police, he had an explanation for his high BAC. His family is wealthy with good connections and he is presently a free man. He was found not guilty two years ago and after the provincial court of appeal overturned that, recently underwent a new trial with decisions set to be released May 17th of this year. The driver is Colin Tweedie, feel free to look up the details because this is one of the most infuriating cases I’ve heard of.
If you're acquitted you can't be retried. Had to be either a hung jury or some kind of other issue.
@@moshunit96 just read a few other articles for terminology. He was found not guilty two years ago without a jury (I believe), but the provincial Court of Appeal overturned that decision and ordered a new trial which is what’s ongoing now! Editing to change the wording, thank you!

Life in prison with no chance of parole if anyone gets hurt or even worse life changing injuries or death.
Working in an ER, sadly, what you see is the kids and people who actually contribute to society (teachers, healthcare workers, hardworking people) are the ones who get killed. The drunk drivers live more times than not and that is honestly the most heartbreaking part of it.
I heard the alcohol in their system makes their body less tense or something? Which makes them more likely to survive a crash.
@@joinsidekeyeah, alcohol loosens you up so that when the crash happens, your muscles don’t tense up the way they normally would when bracing for impact. This lessens the effects across the board. Kind of like dropping something made of rubber versus dropping glass; the more give something has, the more it can withstand impact.
My dad was an ER nurse for about 15 years and a EMT for 30 years, and the things he saw....well I could NEVER do that kind of job. Thank you for doing such a difficult and demanding job. You are appreciated.

In Poland there was recently changed a law, now instead of just punishing you for driving drunk, they take away your car too, and if you borrowed it, you have to pay a full price of what it's worth This should be a law for other countries too.
Tbh, Poland is one of the strictest countries when it comes fo drunk driving. A very low limit, a lot of random checks and now the confiscation law. Which makes the fact that Poland holds the dubious record for the highest ever recorded BAC even more amazing. A Polish man got into an accident whole driving with a BAC of 1.48%. Cars are a BIG money maker for governments . They add all kinds of new toys and big screens that take drivers eyes off the road and people use their phones to text . The more toys the more tax revenue . Ontario is raising the speed limits from100k to 110k and that will help the stoners and drunks react faster ? And vehicles will burn more gas which bring in more carbon taxes for governments . Do you really think the governments care about lives lost on our roads ? NOT !

My brother was killed in a drunk driving accident when I was 15. He was 10 years older than me and was someone I looked up to a lot. He was riding back from work on his motorcycle and was run off the road into a tree by a drunk driver speeding and changing lanes without looking. I never got to see his body but I was told his heart instantly stopped from the collision with the tree. The cops found the guy who ran him off the road a couple years later and charged him with negligent driving and man slaughter since they couldn’t prove he was drunk. He got 58 months in federal prison. That’s under 5 years. For killing my brother from driving drunk. People like this make me sick and angry

I was in a car crash when I was 10 (I'm 32 now) and had to be the only *physically* unharmed person in my family of 4 and our family dog. In order from least to most *physically* injured it goes my dad who just got knocked out and a small cut in his nose, he was driving. My sister had a window explode into her side (she was only 13 at the time), had a seat belt burn across her stomach and body, whiplash, and was knocked unconscious. My mom had her right knee shattered, her back broken in 4 places, her right arm/wrist shattered, including her pinky being nearly sheered off and only a string of skin keeping it hanging on. Her skull skin on the right side was peeled back to nearly the back of her head and her skull was broken open enough to see part of her brain. She had a shattered kidney (yes, I meant shattered, that's the term they used) and a whole litany of other internal injuries. She survived this (a true miracle and I'm not even religious, but it's truly miraculous. Truly, they even saved her pinky. It just doesn't work like a finger anymore). I was unharmed *PHYSICALLY* and didn't even get knocked out but witnessed this all at the age of 10. And of course, our family dog died. This was at 10AM on Easter morning as we drove to our family friend's place to celebrate the holiday and do an egg hunt. I have suffered from intense mental health issues from this since, including schizophrenia, DID, depression, CPTSD, anxiety, OCD, and suicidal thoughts. The man who hit us (he was ejected from his vehicle as he had no seat belt and was physically unharmed aside from cuts cause he landed in some black berry bushes) when they pulled him from the bushes, had a blood alcohol level of .34. WHEN THEY TESTED HIM OVER AN HOUR LATER. He was also on so much coke that he was physically able to be moving around and behind a wheel at all. On Easter morning. At 10 AM. Drunk drivers, people like the people in this video, and people who drive under the influence so severely... They deserve to just flip their car and finish with all their living. If that upsets you, tell that to the kid who watched her mom's head get cracked open, her brain exposed to the air. Her heart stopped on the road and they were only able to get it started again in the helicopter ride to the hospital. I didn't know this until much later. Tell that to the 10 year old, THE FOURTH GRADER, who has suffered for a majority of her life cause of some horrible selfish evil piece of shit who cared so little for others he nearly killed an entire family of 4 and their dog. And it's a miracle only our dog died. Remember that shite, I hope it's burned into your brain so you never fuckin think about going behind the wheel drunk, and definitely don't sit here defending it.
@@SkepticalJedi Thank you for your kind words of support. It's been 22 years and I'm much better mentally, despite the journey to getting here being crazy at times. My mom still feels pain everyday but is know as Saint Amy by everyone who knows her, and has returned to full mental functioning. My dad became a physically abusive alcoholic who drinks and drives constantly. I had to cut ties with him unfortunately. My sister is now a mother with 3 kids and more on the way so, we're all in different spots but doing better than what that crash left us in. I didn't mention this but the dog who died did so taking a piece of debris that would've punctured my mom's heart. He died saving her life essentially. There's a ton of things that happened that day that I can't explain so... Yeah, it's definitely a miracle and I am grateful for everyday I wake up housed, fed, with my loving boyfriend, and our beautiful fur babies.
I’m really sorry you had to see that

The driver was _trying_ to kill me, _trying_ to run over a literal preschooler, because he was drunk and he thought it would impress the girl in the passenger seat. So yeah I agree with you, these people are evil
Jesus christ dude, that is fucking vile in every sense of the word
JESUS dude im so sorry. that’s genuinely traumatizing holy shit
@@bunnythef00l Yeah, the worst part is it worked. The girl in the passenger seat, who I assume was the driver’s girlfriend was _laughing,_ she thought it was _funny!_ I had a very distorted view on teenage relationships and the lengths a guy will go to to impress a girl for a very long time because of it
Yeah I used to work starting at 3 am in a college town. One time a car full of drunk sorority chicks was hopping curbs and tried to rush me walking. It was dark but they could tell when I drew my concealed, but it's ridiculous as I shouldn't have to threaten. I haven't even felt that threatened growing up in the hood man

Well said bro, this is an horrible slap in the face to anyone that ever lost a friend or loved one either directly or indirectly from driving under the influence
Excellent little adventure. My family calls the uphill climbs "goat paths". And that is the only kind of hike my mom ever wants to do. But she'll tell you they are rated "easy".
I once was driving down to Florida, back in 2019, when I was stopped in front of a huge, horrifying wreck. A drunk semi-truck driver had collided through the divider on the road, and collided with a van full of people from a churchgroup, on their way to Disneyworld. Five kids, two adults, just gone. It was a horrible tragedy. I was checking on more information on what had happened for the next few days, when I had saw the headline, though this time, it was in Michigan. This family was on their way BACK from Disney. Family of five. On their way back. Drunk semi-truck driver in the opposite lane, going through the divider. All gone. I still think about it sometimes. And the part that sticks with me, is thinking, "well, they probably had heard about the first accident, I'd think. And they must have been thinking 'Thank god, that wasn't us.' "

Even if they get arrested (when the law enforcement may/can do their job), the only crime(s) they get changed for is reckless driving and littering. I know the sentences are low in my country in comparison to the U.S for curtain crimes. But from experience (witness/testimony) drunk driving and throwing items out of a vehicle is sentence as (sorry for poor translation) "Endangering public safety with possible harm/death using deadly weapons". When I was in prison I knew a woman who got her crap together and studied to be a drug and alcohol counselor. LIVE-STREAMING DRINKING AND DRIVING IS CRAZY???? Thankyou for the insight Charlie🙏🏽
Im a pediatric ICU nurse and I’ve seen too many kids whose lives have been ended or devestated from drunk/reckless driving. None of them or their families ever expected it to happen. Seeing this makes me so angry and upset
Its stuff like this that makes me terrified to drive. Most people will laugh at me since I'm 24, but I physically can't bring myself to drive out of fear I'd be a victim of a drunk driver. Certainly doesn't help that I'm an anxiety-ridden mess of a person. I don't smoke and I don't drink (anymore). Last time I had alcohol was back in 2023, and it was to cope with my great grandfather's passing. It led to me hating alcohol afterwards, can't stand the taste anymore
This infuriates me. My cousin recently died due to being hit by a drunk driver, and seeing the devastation that it caused the whole family, especially her husband, makes me ridiculously angry that these people would find anything remotely “funny” or “entertaining” about this type of act.

I have a story not about drunk driving but driving while high. My aunt…literally the most beautiful person I’ve ever met irl, looooong wavy blonde hair and blue eyes, tall, statuesque and regal and beautiful inside too…was driving with her 2yo daughter. Three teen boys all high on weed went thru a red light and plowed headfirst into her minivan. She died instantly at 32yo. Her 2yo daughter also died on the scene. But EMT’s were able to bring the baby back, although she now has developmental issues. Three children under 14 lost their mom that day. And the poor baby will never be 100%. We all know not to drink and drive. But don’t drive high either! ESP as a teen or new driver. Weed affects a teen brain MUCH more severely that you think.
Where I live there were a couple kids that recently stole a car and were driving 110 mph with no headlights on, they hit a driver on oncoming traffic and they all died. The man that got hit is fighting for his life. Stupid actions can cause lifelong tragedies.

Yeah income based fines will do that. Here in the US, many rich people will commit DUIs and then just pay a lawyer to get the criminal charges reduced to traffic offenses.

@@BusinessTeapotand funnily enough, it’s statistically safer to drive in an autobahn. Crazy huh?

I love Need for Speed, but I would NEVER drink and drive.
Even if the bottle was filled with water, they were still endangering others with their reckless driving and littering. US states need to reform their laws with higher penalties against drunk driving . This is ridiculous.
A kid in my neighborhood crashed his mustang doing this... and then bragged an hour later about his mom already replacing the car and doing it again. You know. Where children are playing in the street. I rarely wish bad on people but reckless drivers make me think things that go against community standards.
People who drive recklessly need to find an empty parking lot or a race track. Doing it on public roads where you risk hurting innocent commuters is always wild

The guy was speeding around the neighborhood when i was walking home from the bus stop. Damn bastard nearly hit me at one point so I flipped him off and called my stepdad to come pick me up. Revoking their driving permits for life sounds like a good idea. Along with a criminal record with jail time for public endangerment.
No, try a long prison sentence instead. Minimum of 5 years for just committing the act. Any injuries? 10+ years per person. Deaths? 20+ years per person. As well as a permanent ban on driving as well as owning a vehicle that requires a license. If caught doing either another 10+ years.

And he just welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world this month!
I think even if they're drinking water, if they get caught and brought to a jury they would most likely assume it's alcohol.
I cane down to see if anyone thought this too… it seems too stupid to do this live, so it makes me think it’s water.
It's fine then just make sure they get charged for the cost of the cops, arrests and court fees. No jail time but make them pay for the time of all the officials they wasted. That would teach them as well.
*Don’t read my name……..😮*
You could tell if it was water or not based on how it behaves inside the bottle
and also the fact they threw out the glass bottle is enough to throw in a few charges
It’s this kind of behavior that killed my cousin. She was like a sister to me and now she’s gone because a grown man couldn’t behave and decided to act like a toddler and it claimed the life of a kind woman who was just looking out for a close friend
I’m sorry for your loss
I think it's actual vodka too. The liquid moves differently in the bottle than water would, to my eyes. It's really hard to tell, but I'm leaning toward it being vodka with the way it sloshes and clings to the sides.
