  • Anyone who has played VR knows that the very slight delay between her movements and the drone will result in dizziness and motion sickness. Your brain won't realize wtf is going on during those split seconds when you're moving your head but your field of view isn't changing or vice versa. It's similar to having the spins when your drunk. Don't get me wrong, this is awesome, but it would definitely take a decent amount of getting used to. It's physically impossible for the movement to be instantaneous, but would help if the drone responded faster and didn't smooth it's movement. Like when it's spinning when she looks left and right, the drone slows down as it approaches the new position

    • I agree with you ... but technology has improved and the delay is getting smaller and smaller. 5G has really a low latency and the new AI algorithms are reducing the computation time. I think we are near to the target

  • I can see many use cases for it like exploring and immersion but in terms of speed and agility with human interaction, a joystick is still the way to go. A better solution would be eye-tracking, no? It’s more natural and the eye can dart faster than a moving head. Better yet, combine eye with head movement but it has to be low latency to prevent motion sickness.

  • Its known as "slaving the ship to the goggles". The exact same technology is used on the targeting systems of the undermounted machine guns on the apache and commanche attack helicopters. And also the murakumo advanced battle mech. "Karatas" Pretty neat that it can now be bought for less than six figures.

    • Ха, впервые отдалённо похожие дроны мы увидели в игре Half Life-2 в 2006 году. Но даже в игре в фантастическом будущем и сами дроны, и их возможности были просто жалкой самоделкой в сравнении с любыми реальными дронами наших дней! В игре фантастический дрон мог только медленно и неуклюже летать и делать одиночные фото со вспышкой, фиксируя нарушение порядка, и это всё!

    • It’s already integrated into fighter jets. I’m pretty sure using it on a tank would be more problems than it’s worth as most tanks have two turret crew members (while the US Abrams has three in the turret). So the gunner turning to look at the commander could swing the turret (and barrel) around unexpectedly. Not to mention what would happen if the tank gets hit and everyone’s skulls are run like a bell.

  • using drones to explore abandoned buildings and creepy forests is a game changer, no one can harm you but you can still enjoy the thrill. i saw so many people encountering strange hostile figures and had to back up, if they used drones instead they could capture so much more. there is some type of hairless pale creature lurking around scarying people away, if only they had a drone they could at least manage to capture better footage instead of running away afraid of being physically assaulted. exploring by drone also makes you immune to demons that attaches to your body, because you can let the drone away from your home on a remote wireless charging docking platform. that way you can detach your physical presence from the haunted places and therefore you won't risk bringing back home undesired spirits because the only thing they can attach to is just the drone you keep away from home and from which you stay as far as possible to play it safe. i will say it again, a remote controlled drone is a game changer for risky encaunterd and explorations.

    • ​​@@piotr3814 The Jets have an Augmented Reality HUD. Turning your head may not turn the jet, but you have a full 360 degree view outside of the cockpit thanks to the help of some exterior cameras. But yeah, the helicopters have the head-controled cannons. Pretty cool stuff. :)

    • AR stands for Augmented Reality; VR stands for Virtual Reality. Those VR googles are attached to a drone, which therefore, are being used to augment reality. In this particular sense, they are AR goggles.

  • Larger drones with weapons would give military soldiers an advantage of facing the enemy at a safe distance. Cops can use them to search buildings and other dangerous hot spots without risking their lives. Firefighters can search buildings on fire to look for trapped victims as the drone can go through multistory windows. Could you imagine a cop pulls you over andca drone appears at your window to greet you while computerized intelligence looks for any signs of weapons or suspicious behavior.
