  • Wooooow. Those don’t know about Avila, don’t realize how crazy of an upset this was. Congrats to Ryder for not quitting. Dude was 1/8” from being pinned and goes into the third 0-5 against a 3xer and gets the job done. Kudos champ 🙏🏼

  • I reckon Avila thought he had a lock on the title. Downey wrestled as though he'd never heard of Avila.

  • Avila better get used to this feeling. Just like tomasello, just like Marinelli, they muscled their way through high school. And that's not to say he's not talented. But at the next level you'll still be able to muscle your way through to second, third or fourth place finishes in big10 and nationals. But college is owned by finesse tacticians. Bottom line, skill beats muscle. But a good match 👌.

    @Kenneth-tz4sx@Kenneth-tz4sx2 ай бұрын
    • Not a great comparison. Tomasello hardly muscled his way through. He was a ball of fire on his feet. He hi c was almost unstoppable. He beat some of the best, including Spencer Lee, Cory Clark, Gilman.

  • This is at least a year old... Downey won the 2024 Big 12 title, so he is pretty legit himself. Avila has yet to see much mat time at Virginia from what I can see.

    @mschatz45@mschatz45Ай бұрын
  • No one but himself to blame. So cocky just thinking you can just lay there and not bother in the third and he got exactly what he deserved. Then he just sits there forever and makes it about him instead of showing class and letting the kid enjoy his victory . Parenting/adult mentoring is at an all time low.

    • A lot of these high school seniors nationwide are 20 years old. Especially in wrestling. Its becoming common practice for parents to hold boys back to give them an advantage in wrestling. Which is asinine to me that people care that much to basically cheat for high school sports lol
