He doesn't mention that Death valley cools drastically at night. The real danger with deserts beyond dehydration and sun exposure is not being prepared for the shift in nighttime temperature.

Me and my friends went hiking in Death Valley many years ago. Didn't know about the mountain lions or black widow spiders, but I remember how paranoid we were about the scorpions and rattlers, although I found out years later that the venom from scorpions and even rattlers isn't actually as deadly as it's often portrayed (although I wouldn't recommend testing that). We had to wear gloves for climbing because of how hot the rocks get, and every once in a while you'd accidentally brush up against a rock and jump from the burn. We each had packs with 3 two liter bottles of water and soda, which we completely drained in the 4-5 hours we were out there. The next day it was like someone tie-dyed our shirts with salt lol. It was absurdly hot there but, I know it's a cliché but it's kinda true: it's a dry heat so it doesn't feel as unbearable. It's also pretty desolate out there, despite the fame of the area. Roads are quiet, no crowds. The heat keeps people away for the most part. Slept on top of the car that night because we were paranoid about creepy-crawlies on the ground and we were too poor to pay for a place. I remember how amazing the stars were out there.

Rattlers can be found anywhere in the continental USA. Rattlers want to avoid your hooves and the dreadful paws and mouths of your dog and especially your cat. (Cats kill and eat rattlers!) Most rattler bites come from human misconduct, like teasing them. You would be surprised at how many of the bites come to hands and faces, and how many of the victims are drunk. You would be surprised that snakebite isn't much of an occupational hazard to farmers, ranchers, letter carriers, construction workers, oil-field workers, fishermen, and cops. Hikers, hunters, boaters, and sport fishers? Nope. Ratters try to keep their distance If they can't get away fast enough and rattle to scare you off.
@@paulbrower Rofl, I wouldn't have guessed it, but after you mentioned that most bite victims are drunk, yah, that makes sense.

I've been in Death Valley lot's of time's, we did custom landscaping for the rich and famous living in Las Vegas during the 70's, and had a woman who wanted a moving flower bed that would follow the sun's movement each day. So we got old map's of an abandoned silver mine and went to bring up an ore cart and enough steel track to complete the electrically controlled ore cart on a timer including automatic sprinklers. It was hot and hard work but it turned out great.

About 20 years ago my husband and I drove across much of Death Valley in April. The temps by day were in the mid 70s, and we were out the other side before nightfall. Some amazing sights, including Zabriski Point - famous for the movie of the same name. Apparently we had inadvertently picked the perfect time to go. OTOH when we woke up at our motel the next morning it was snowing, and we kept seeing signs that places like the Donner Pass were completely shut down. It was still snowing when we got to Reno, but gradually warmed up a bit. What a long strange trip indeed!😉😁

The world is a dangerous place. Yet, it's still beautiful
The road up to "Fairy Meadows" in Northern Pakistan is comparable to the road mentioned at the start of this. Sheer drop offs for thousands of feet and incredibly narrow roads. While it hasn't been closed off (that I'm aware), I'm surprised it wasn't listed in this video.
Been to Death Valley in the middle of winter. Loved it. The sand dunes are incredible and there are hot springs there. Beware: food, drink and gas are very expensive. About double of the usual cost. There is a cafeteria there (it might not be there anymore) and that was outrageous.
This dude taught me more in 26 minutes then science in 5 years.

I drove on roads like "Death Road" all the time as a kid bc my dad loved exploring mountain trails in our truck (and trailer). Greatly contributed to my current phobia of unenclosed heights and vehicles.
That must’ve been scary like realy scary
@Jermaine Smith Your comment actually just reminded me of two occasions. One time, my dad was driving on a “road that didn’t exist” (as termed by my mom) that was closed to the public because pieces of it were literally eroded away into the raging river below-several times we had to drive on the incoming traffic lane because the other lane was just completely gone. Another time, we had to turn around for some reason and the road was so narrow that the truck-bed was hanging over the cliff and the back-wheels were inches from the edge. Meanwhile, I was in the backseat pretending to be Spider-Man saving us from falling as a coping mechanism.
😬😬😬 And I thought my dad was crazy when he drove on a mountain road where it looked like the wheels were going to go off of the road at any point of time. And no he did not drive slowly🥴

The walk to Divers Cove in Laguna Beach, CA. It's on a cliff near Divers cove and the waves and water are such that they took my dog out to sea. She got caught by the wave and sucked under. I saw her nose pointing straight up before she went under. She came back up like 30 seconds later. I've never been so scared in my life. Thank God she was okay. She never liked going into the ocean much after that, but eventually she got into body boarding, so she ( the Dog ) took that up with avid enthusiasm.
I have spent quite a few of my childhood vacation in the Skeleton Coast Nature Reserve, and I will admit, though different, the desert does have a rather strange and captivating beauty. Also, should you go there during the summer season, and not take appropriate shelter on the beach, one could experience very cold temperatures and even freeze to death at night if not protected form the Atlantic winds. Still worth going, I'll admit just...be careful
the temp difference between death valley and my home (northern canada) is 160-195 degrees F.. i compare the 2 almost every day.sounds strange but i live in the coldest city in the world so i compare it to the hottest place in the world. the night temps in death valley never drop below 50F. that's really warm for us..that's a 110F difference between their coldest night and our coldest night..

The Skeleton Coast also has a popular surf spot that is known to have 1 of the longest waves on earth where you can stay on a single wave for longer than 2 min.

Fun fact: if you're still feeling the smell of rotten eggs, then that means you're relatively safe. The hydrogen sulfide will only cause respiratory problems if it's concentrations under 500 ppm, but will result in a fast death if it exceeds 800 ppm. It only keeps its smell up to around 10-15 ppm. Which means that if you're no longer feeling the smell of rotten eggs, that's the time to turn around and hightail it out of there.

Most dangerous place I have ever visited was the Copper River in Alaska. The silt in the river is so fine it will actually fill the pores of your skins adding several pounds of weight to your body. Add that to the weight of any clothing , and the silt that gets caught in your clothing as well, and unless you are tied off to the bank, falling in is extremely dangerous, and often deadly. The fact that it is also a glacier fed river and the water doesn’t exceed 40F temps, and hypothermia is a major risk too.
Not Alaska I don’t wanna die before my parents wedding 😰

At 6 years old, the most dangerous place I've ever been is in the ocean in Maine, on crab island, a sandbar, when it was overflowing.

The most dangerous place I’ve been was in my house during Hurricane Katrina and me and my brother went off the boardwalk in Yellowstone near a Hot Spring. The Bolton Strid is a river that's turned on its side as it goes through that narrow area. I live in Namibia. Skeleton Coast isn’t dangerous. It’s just very dangerous to swim there. It’s actually a popular tourist attraction here and has been turned into a nature reserve. If you’re on skeleton coast you won’t run into any lions, hyenas or leopards.Majority of these animals are kept in wildlife sanctuaries and the rest live in the savannah. If you’re in the Namib desert, it’s better to keep an eye out for snakes and scorpions. Yeah, there are desert lions but they live deeper into the desert; far away from the coast and are rarely seen by people.

I’ve been in the Blue Hole, and it was awesome. We went to about 150’(yes, well-past the limit for Rec diving but we only stayed for about ten mins) and that list I Of sharks present was spot-on. The most dangerous place i've ever visited is my parents house. They're pshycopaths, animal abusers and they aren't afraid to abuse children. I have experience from it, so just don't go there. If you do, have the Swedish cops with you, as we need to save their pet dogs, cat and sheeps from more harm. The dogs are so stressed, they don't act like dogs, and the oldest of them is basically a fight dog, ready to enter the pit and kill everything in sight, the cat is traumatized and scared of everything. The sheeps are even worse, cause they barely get enough water during the summer and during the winter, no 1 keeps their water ice free. As this is in Sweden, you can probably imagine what can happen, as Sweden is surprisingly hot during the summer, and quite deadly during the winter. I've lost the ability to feel things in my hands several times during my 22 years of existance
