Big Design Ideas For Tiny Bedrooms! 💡

2024 ж. 8 Мам.
138 485 Рет қаралды

Our bedrooms are often the most overlooked spaces when it comes to the design of our homes, and yet the average person will spend 26 years of their lives in bed. There are a few really good design principles that can help you make the most of your tiny / small bedroom or sleeping loft and in this episode we explore some of our favourite ideas.
Hopefully you can find some design inspiration here. Over the years, we have visited hundreds of tiny homes and here we have highlighted some of our favourite concepts that have helped to transform sleeping lofts and compact bedrooms into sanctuary spaces of rest and respite.
We hope you enjoy the episode!

  • I admire designs that manage to have headroom in the bedroom, and that have safe stairs with railings. Not a fan of ladders or slippery wooden platforms that have to be navigated during the night without anything to hang onto.

  • So glad you made this video!!! I was trying to remember which ones were my favorites concerning bedrooms. I'm older & do not want to go crawling around on my knees, or bent over like an old gnome, to go sleep or make my bed. I don't like the messy bed look. I once saw a video of someone who had a "vardo style" barrel roof for extra room on the sides as well. I had already thought of lowering the kitchen ceiling. The bedroom on a gooseneck trailer that was well equipped with storage and space was great! I also like the short stair on the side with the gallery deck/walk across the side wall.

  • Fantastic video montage showing the many bedroom configuration options! For those with beds on lifts, it'd be great to hear about (and see) the manual override features they might have installed, so if the components failed or power outage, how do they lower their bed. Look forward to more similar videos, i.e., kitchens, baths, storage, etc. ☮

  • I’m glad to see this video about bedrooms in tiny homes. There are several things I’ve always wondered about, though. So many bedrooms imply contortions to make the bed. Beds are routinely shoved up against a side wall. There have been numerous shows that talk about ceiling height and ventilation but I can’t recall any show that considers any other practicalities beyond the raised end of the bed and conventional narrow closets and baskets. While all of these are practical and valid there are other important elements that are never touched upon. There never seems to be any bedside reading lamps. Any tape of reading in bed always shows daylight lighting the room. Nor are separate bedrooms for couples ever shown. Sleeping in separate rooms tends to be about different sleep cycles and not about loving your SO. Nor do you talk about people needing to get up at night needing to tinkle. I wish you would occasionally highlight older people who have embraced living tiny. You could consider trading your trademark focus on making tea and a vegetarian meal at the end of your wonderful show and instead search out older people who aren’t the vigorous and highly fit folks who typically populate your show.

How great you are showing the beauty of the house and also the beauty of the owner's lifestyle. I really like the idea of video without any backsong just a short authentic instrument at the beginning and the end of video. Because I really enjoy the conversation and interaction between you and the tiny house owner. I learn english so much from the talk and also life lessons. How you try to dig into the reasons why people choose tiny house living is just amazing. How genuine your reaction to the house design and your respect to the people's choice is really nice of you. Hope you and family have a great life 😊

      @louisegogel7973@louisegogel79738 күн бұрын
    • New Zealand resident here. Built in bug screens are super rare, and the most common one is a door that has a thick painted chicken wire supporting the mesh, which looks a bit tacky/like an industrial door. And it's certainly not that we don't have insects, we have LOTS of insects, we just culturally are used to living with the occasional fly, mosquito or beetle visit inside. Also possibly the far less risk of diseases from being biten by mosquitos here reinforces that culture. That being said, I am putting up screens in my eventual loft bedroom. 😂

  • Thanks for sharing. It seems that the loft bedroom was something that was part of a lot of the early tiny houses. It was good to see alternatives to this. I was curious about any tiny houses where the bed coverts from a couch of some kind. I noticed that a lot of the van life people would have a couch or sitting area convert to a bed, sometimes with accordion wood slats that pull out with half of them staying where they were. I think I saw some tiny houses having this, but they seemed to be for guest beds. You mentioned the murphy bed idea or a fold down bed, but it seemed that you did not show them, except for the nice rollout from an elevated floor bed. I thought I remembered some fold downs that you had shown on your show. I remember that you had shown a kitchen table that converts to a bed in one of your tiny house videos. This is one that I see from the world of RVs. All of these ideas are for, perhaps, even tighter homes than the usual tiny home. You had asked if you missed some bed set ups and I thought I would catalog them for you here. Perhaps you could do a show on these very tight tiny houses where these space saving ideas are used. Blessings and Keep Up all the good work that you do. I do not think I have missed any of your videos.

  • Great selection and considerations. In the spirit of using vertical space on a single level house, I’m surprised more people don’t have beds on a raised platform with deep drawers / pull out wardrobe hanging space underneath, with one or two steps up only. (A few good examples on NTS). A loft compromise if you like. This is as alternative to just one level of drawers and allows easier access than gaslift and less expensive than elevator beds. Perhaps a new area to explore for LBIATH?

  • Can you make the intro song to your videos available for download. Like if that could be my ringtone I'd be so haopy. It's so calming and synonymous with your channel. Lol, that aside, thank you for this. I'm hoping to go tiny one day and have been bsck and forth between a loft and a ground level bedroom sleeping area. I def do not want to deal with ladders and what not so I know I'll go for a ground level bedroom or an actual staircase and raise the ceiling height. I plan on staying spry even in old age, but if I do end up growing old with my tiny, I want to plan for the future and I like the idea of just brushing my teeth and walking straight to my bed and go to sleep. Doing my night skin routine and dental hygiene, to then climb a ladder will almost wake me up again and will make it harder to sleep. I even brush my teeth like an hour before I go to bed because I've found if I do it right before lying down, just the action of brushing wakes me up again and I go to sleep much later than if I did it earlier. Love all these designs and how personal they are to each of these homeowners. I think I've watched every single video you've uploaded on your channel. And from all of them my takeaway is that the loft bed design is not for me. The motorized platform bed system that can be raised and hidden into the ceiling is also something I could see working for me. But it's also expensive, and I imagine its draws a good bit of energy when used. And its lifted and raised twice a day. Also bedrooms give you a zen escape space. I'm totally going off on a tangent now lol. In summary, love this upload and was super helpful for us future tiny home owner hopefuls :))

  • All awesome! I like beds that can disappear (easily), freeing up flexible-use floor space. 👍😎🇨🇦💃

  • Another great Video, Bryce. Thank you. Any chance of doing one to explain how to go about finding a spot for a Tiny House? I see on the internet about it from the land owners perspective, but not for someone finding a block/spot and what criteria you would need etc? Thanks, Andy.

  • Which house had the sliding floor to enclose the space? I like the idea of that. It is found at 17:35
