Thirty nine people are still unaccounted for following the building collapse in George.
Two construction workers were rescued from the rubble last night and communication has been established with some of those still trapped.
The death toll stands at seven following the retrieval of another body on Tuesday.
Independent structural engineers, officials from the Department of Labour and police have all begun investigating the cause of the collapse.

UK is sending prayers for the speedy recovery of the survivors and condolences to the deceased families
Thank you for your kindness; we are all so heartbroken in SA.
This is what happens when corruption becomes institutionalised in a country.
Builders taking short cuts happens across the world, the rich are heartless and greedy
@@randomlady5315 The building collapsing and trapping people under rubble is not “taking shortcuts”. It’s a reflection of systemic corruption and an indication that the institutions that are supposed to monitor the work of the builders/engineers against the appropriate standards and policies are not functioning properly.
@@user-in3yq9fx8z yeah of the investors and contractors, they the ones benefiting
Painful bcuz reliable parties are labeled racists, monopoly capitalists, when the winners have nothing to offer except calling names for others
Yes corruption in the source of all this. We are engineers with 20 yrs experience but we dont even got shortlisted coz of corruption. Check now
We continue to monitor and pray for recovery of the trapped workers. Thoughts and prayers with you all in George and blessing to the families of the deceased and trapped workers.. Thank you to the essential services, volunteers and kindness of people and companies during this tragedy.. PE. . 😭
Structural engineer, the developer and the municipal inspector are in trouble
Once we forget about this story then the case will be squashed. No accountability in our country
Surely the builder is the one to implement the building is the one at fault here???
@@gabriellarivera3157 It depends. There is a chance the design failed. Remember the steel and concrete is inspected at every stage from the ground up by the engineer
@@retroFUNKINgroova I think this is likely. Or depending on insurances, settlements will be reached with the relevant families
Can't hear the reporter. Speak up please.
Imagine this happened when the building was fully occupied and in the middle of the night?! 😔
Prayers from Ethiopia 🇪🇹
Thoughts and prayers for those unable to move or make contact.
So sad. But please keep rescue going for more than 3 days cus human life can survive beyond 3 days. Prayers from Dubai.
Give us detail regarding the construction company and how sub standard methods and materials and does corruption play a part in this tragety
Praying for the rescue of the 39 🙏🛐
I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY ITS TAKING SUCH A LONG TIME TO REMOVE THE RUBBLE...3 DAYS LATER AND NO REMOVAL OF MAJOR STRUCTURAL RUBBLE..THE CRANE IS NOT BEING UTILIZED.WHY ARE PEOPLE STANDING AROUND REMOVE THE BRICKS BY HAND BUT STOP STANDING AROUND THE PROCESS LOOKS VERY LETHARGIC...IM EITHER STUPID OR OUT OF MY DEPTH.
This is a very complex process. The ground and rubble is unstable. One wrong move and things could collapse further and kill the remaining people who are stuck, or injure the rescue workers. It's important to proceed with caution in order to keep everyone safe.
Who is the contract awarded to
Who said the ground is unstable? @@lynetteclassen1776
@@Shaun-nq3ejto do what? A contract is not needed when there is a building collapse.
@lynetteclassen1776 It's not so complex. With competent people this resque would have been done already. 2 Problems in the whole system A rescuer should not be held liable if someone dies as a result of the rescue. Especially if there is large number of lives at stake. Second is obvious... incompetency
Builder took "short-cuts" for sure 😎 Check the thickness of steel used against the engineers' plan. Also strength of the concrete mixture etc 😔 Very sad
It is the most likely. I wonder how though. The engineer inspects steel before casting. The concrete cast gets compression tested. Further more it looks like the roof was cast aswell. so the entire building was technically structurally complete. From the live collapse footage, it looks like something went wrong in the basement. I wonder
So sad ....construction failure ...
Change is needed in S.A
A new build and this happens? I think now more than professional indemnity is at risk to the engineers and/or contractors. The responsible people need to go to prison. The way developers build these days are all about cost saving and a misused term called ‘value engineering’.
Why no army troops availabe to help clear rubble? Oudtshoorn just over the hill?
What army? 😅
@@Catherine-oe4tp exactly my point.......
RIP beloved 😔 keeping all in my heart and prayers. All my love in Christ to all
Why are so many people standing around, doing nothing?
So sad!
Condolences
I see absolutely no columns in a 5 story building! Nor any beams? And it was built with standard stock bricks to carry over 2 tons per square meter of weight! Architect, Municipality worker approving, building contractor (who should have known better) needs to be held accountable. Being a multi-story building, the Architect should have appointed a qualified Engineer to varify his design.
I saw the floor plans on the developer's website. When I saw the layout of the basement and ground floor, I was astonished as to how few columns there were and the lack of any core structures for stability. Granted, these were architectural drawings. I have not seen any structural engineer's drawings.
Dear Sirs, We have to make sure that only ! S.A.B.S. tested and approved, and : no 'cheap' Chinese Cement ? is used, if this is the case ? 😢
800 years old buildings are still standing in China 🇨🇳 😳
When was this? Nooo!
😢
Was they busy building there?
What you saying? Huh?
BEE construction?
It's White contruction company my friend
@@MarnusvdMerwe And your reliable sources are?
The engineer and architect must be held accountable. They are professionally responsible for this disaster, a case of murder?
What are your grounds for this assertion.

Awful
Not that I say this life's are not the same as what families that would have been in that Apartment building. But if that Apartment's was full of families later on after this building was signed over, there would have been many more people lifes would have lost not just 75. So this just happened at the wright time. And not later.
