The L-29 Fighter trainer was originally designed and built in the Czech republic. About 2500 of these planes were built for the war. And some of them are still active around the world as trainers.
This particular jet saw some action in Romania but since shipped to the US, it had been sitting for the last 18 years until now.
Pete from Up and Ready Flight picked up this L-29 Super Delfin and flew it back to the hangar to get it back to better shape.
This is a robust and reliable military trainer aircraft. Only one issue though with this fighter jet trainer, It was underpowered. Warbirds of Delaware has since installed engine modifications with the airframe featured. Now, it's one of the fastest airplane ever to race at Reno with a whopping top speed of 544 mph.
L-29 "Viper" Super Delfin Specs:
•Takeoff Roll: 800ft
•Rate of Climb: 7,000ft/min
•Cruise Performance (High Powered): 400+ knots with Fuel Burn of 180 gallons per hour
•Cruise Performance (Low Fuel Consumption): 290+ knots with Fuel Burn of 127 gallons per hour
•Range: 500-900 nautical miles

    • Porn...is an abbreviation from romanian word Pornire/Pornit which means Starter/Started!

  • This is my old L-29 that I sold earlier this year. It was not abandoned. I did work on it after I got it 15+ years ago surplus from the Romanian Air Force. I got it running and airworthy and replaced some parts including the front canopy with new parts. I stripped off the old paint but never finished the project. I Sold it because the engine is worn out and needs to be replaced. New engines are very hard to find. It is in very good condition and the new owners will give it new paint and a new engine and modern radio equipment. The "Porn" control knobs are the dimmer controls for the instrument lights. In the Romanian language "Pornie" means adjustment. It is just abbreviated as "Porn". Everyone gets a good laugh about those controls. I told everyone they were "In flight entertainment controls". ha ha L-29s burn 200+ gallons per hour. Fly for about an hour and put in another 200+ gallons. Holds about 260 gallons in main fuel tank. After I sold this L-29, I found another one that was damaged, but has an almost new engine. I Bought it as scrap for it's new engine and lots of other good parts it has. Then I bought another all original surplus one that has a bad engine. My cost for the 2 jets was under $10,000. My Plan is to make one good jet from the 2 and have lots of good parts left over to sell. Rick Prindle - Dallas, TX

    • Porn is an abreviation for "Pornire" which means starter. Also it looked that at that controls all commands are in romanian. Rece/cald means Cold/warm. If the engine was done that means it was used intensively so instead of mantaining they prefered to sell and buy new one which Romania produced a comparable one at that time and the plane is called IAR Soim.

  • The L-29 can use external wing tanks, which means you could cover some serious miles in one.

  • A MiG-21 was listed at 450k. You will be needing some serious stick time in a trainer like the L-29/39 before flying that Mach 2 MiG

  • Soviet cockpits are always painted green and blue green. Soviet defector and MiG-25 Pilot Viktor Belenko claimed that this was done because it was found to be more soothing and relaxing for the flight crew to operate in a blue-green painted cockpit. I suspect it is also produces less cockpit heating due to sunlight.

  • The label maker label that's in black with white letter's above the switch po rn say's cab lights, the other words are in Romanian and they read left and right wing light's. My thought was maybe Po for port and RN for rear nav light but that doesn't make sense. It's looks to be a dimmer switch because of the extended arrow . But I'm sure you'll tell us later.

  • As old as it is, Bonanza is still 14 years older. Even though this is only a trainer it's interesting to note how clumsily engineered everything is. I'm assuming none of it is armor as it can't handle large bullets in any case so it's a 2.3 ton bird and the engine only weighs 330kg. Why were the seats not reclined, why was the hull not snug around the shoulders, why were the instruments not miniaturized. Fiberglass and resin was around since the 1930s. You don't need servos to run a plane this size so why was it this heavy. Imagine if they could cut 1600kg off the weight. That's flying around without a couple of cars attached. That's a pretty significant handicap in war time. Strange how oblivious to optimization most are. Also imagine when you review a UFO on this channel If we have open contact with ETs soon. That would be quite something. Obama and Nasa administrator have admitted it's real. Pretty wild. Imagine going for a spin to the moon in a couple of seconds. or a thousand times faster than light to the next star over.

  • I enjoy your vids but two suggestions for more viewers - be more upbeat like some car KZheadrs! Also add the price of the planes! I had to look up the price of the mini jet and it’s actually a reasonable and attainable price. That would help a lot of folks looking to get into aviation. My dad has been a Delta pilot for 30 years and I’ve loved being in planes and flying them. Price is always a good point to bring up otherwise people get their hopes up. Cheers and thank you for the content!!

  • Wrong right from the very beginning. "The Aero L-29 Delfín (English: Dolphin, NATO reporting name: Maya) is a military jet trainer developed and manufactured by Czechoslovakian aviation manufacturer Aero Vodochody." It was NEVER built by the Soviets, as Czechoslovakia was NEVER part of the Soviet Union. I think I will end watching your video right here, sounds like you don't really know what you're talking about.

    @DanSlotea@DanSlotea2 жыл бұрын
    • Czechoslovakia was never *officially* part of the Soviet Union; But it sure as hell was not independent from it, as demonstrated by the Soviet invasion of 1968 when the Czech government began getting too liberal to suit Moscow.

      @ryoder@ryoder2 жыл бұрын
    • @@ryoder there is no "official" or "unofficial". Czechoslovakia was NEVER a Soviet republic. Czechoslovakian were NEVER Sovietics. Period. Saying otherwise is just plain ignorance.

    • I mean, there is no doubt about that, we are never part of SSSR, we be occupaid by them, from 1968,but still we keep some how independence, at least,, officialy,,. In reality is all under russian aproval. We are part of warsaw pakt, like Poland, Hungary etc,. And this jet is us, that right. Mostly use like trainer and meant for close support, something like A-10 warthog,I guess. Build in way which put focus on using for countries which is small in teritory, example Mig 21 have action radius which is nearly bigger than us country then is impossible turn around and stay in us teritory which is for frontier of warsaw pakt important. Like all army stuff is lack of comfort and luxury, alongside of his age, I am nearly 50 years old and I know this jet from my childhood. Its praising for maneuvrobality and never is intendendet go over speed of sound, I think so.
