This song brought tears to my eyes. My son is 23 and suffers from depression. His mom and I split up permanently 10 years ago. He acted and talked like he understood it and handled it well. Now, looking back, I'm thinking he just felt as if he didn't have a choice , but to accept it. It wasn't right...he never should have had to endure the pain a child feels when the two people they love most in this world part ways and their life is forever changed. Not long after his mom and I split up, she moved 2500 miles away down to Texas. He lives with me and visits his mom for about a month at a time, once or twice a year. I love him to death, but am wracked with sadness, guilt and regret for my role and I wonder what it will take for him to find the joy he deserves in this life. It just breaks my heart and this song speaks to me. He has no idea how much I love him and need him in my life.

I think it takes great courage to expose your pain like she did. It touched a lot of people in the audience (at home too). In a competition that is often superficial, formulaic, and manufactured, it was a game changer. I hope that she does get a record deal out of this. She damned well deserves a shot.

Had me crying hard! Lost my only brother, my only sibiling in 2004 from an accidental overdose of Elavil...he couldn't urinate so the medicine built up in his system and killed him! I still need him to this day and luckily I still feel his presence around me when I need him the most!

I lived through her biggest fear, I can still hear my moms screams when the police called about my brother committing suicide. Mom is gone, but I can still hear her screams in my head. Before you commit suicide just imagine how the people who love you will feel. reach get help.
