This is the first expensive katana I've ever working with, so many interesting thing happen when I wrapped the handle for this blade.
I made this long version from beginning to the end, with how I did the end knots, and here is the result : My work and my Video at the same time :)

So Very Few Craftsman That Know, Or Study This Beautiful Art.
Not where I live, we got Ninjas along with Samurai and let me tell you. They are very elusive along with their razor sharp Sword. Always be on the look.
@@bjones2513 Be One With It My Child.. 🥷
Does anyone know what kind of glue he uses
Thank you. Your video production is very well done and detailed. The wrapping is done beautifully. A true craftsman and artist. Cheers to you sir for keeping these traditions.
A true craftsman and artist.. Thank you so much for sharing this video!
Thought I could change the menuki easily, but after seeing this (witch I watched amazed) I am sure I cannot. Thank you for sharing this knowledge
Beautiful work. The effort you make to neaten up the knot as you finish really shows attention to detail i would want, if I needed a handle wrapped.
Beautiful work! I can only imagine how many hours of practice flow in to you´re craftmanship. Well done, Sir!
Fantastic craftsmanship and attention to detail!
Okay, ray skin is MUCH HARDER than I thought 😳
yea it is rawhide with calcium bumps
THat is beautiful tsuka and katana. Nice job
This is craftsmanship. I could watch this all day. It takes so much skill and he makes it look easy
Thanks, your comment make my day :)
I have been wanting to rewrap my Tsuka with a different Ito and this video will definitely help a lot because I have been curious about how to wrap an Ito around a Tsuka in detail. Thank You for the video.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this. ❤
That was really cool to watch. Always wondered how it was done. Beautiful work.
I loved the care he took in preparing the samegawa. I loved the T. rex skull tattooed on his arm! I loved his little assistant! However, I would have preferred a descriptive narration, telling us what he was doing and why, to just the overloud music. Still, this was a valuable and useful video - thank you!
I just found this channel today and I love it! New subscriber!
Beautiful job!!
Beautiful work!
Magnificent work, lad!
Amazing work.
Parabéns 👏👏 lindo trabalho 😍
Keep up the great work
Great job, an amazing sword.
this is dope, good work!
Thank you for making this video.
Как всегда всё тщательно по японски. Уважаю всех мастеров с руками. Спасибо за это искусство!
Beautiful tsuka and katana
Well done sir!
This was so amazing to watch! Its a dream of mine to make my very own from scratch!
I’m curremtly living my dream. Well I start small making a Tanto. This video is quite good but some of the important steps he leaves out. For example tying the end knot is only partially shown, there are more acurate videos on YT.
Beautiful work wish I had the skill to do that
Technical Profession, nice work! i have‘t saw cearly the last step unfortunately。
Wowww.Its nice and Clear
Thanks for the video and the patient to show us the "makitsuka" . Wonderful work. I would like to see how do you maked the 2th not, in the video it don't appear.
Thank you so very much. I learned a lot from this video. どうもありがとうございました。このビデオから多くのことを学びました。
Well done!
Beautiful!!
Beautiful...!
Not only great work, video shows work in very fine detail others can use. It also shows a master at work. It would like to know how many handles you have wrapped? You show confedent experience only acquired by many hours of dedicated work. I will use this video when wrapping my handles. Thanks for passing on this knowledge!
Does anyone know what kind of glue to use on the silk wrap
Look at its battle scars such a Beauty
Nice job!
nice demonstration. i've had trouble finding good examples on how to finish up the tie properly, they're usually poorly lit, use very dark ito, and are low video quality. this is great. thank you
It´s realy a true masterpiece. I have to clean the cotton Silk on my Tsuka (White) and I´am not good on disassemble it (I dont have the Tools either). Do you have any tips for my how to clean it?
Woww super merci beaucoup
simple yet complex , my katana handle part on the bottom popped off when i was chopping at brush to clear a path , having a tough time getting it back to normal with the original string
Art and hard work 👍💪 hi ,hello from indonesia.
Was that a ink of some sort. I’m trying to get that look on the same but no luck
Can you show us the bench you plase the blade into wjen you work on tsukas?
I am going to attempt making a handle and do the wrapping. Its for a tanto blade I bought yesterday. Hopefully I will be able to pull it off. Awe. Love your assistant. She adorable. Reminds me of my little girl. She’s 1 and a half.
Thankyou haha, but he's my boy :)))
Sorry about that. I do that quite often. I should stop. Ha. He is still adorable and reminds me of my little ones.
Very beautiful
Hello friend. I was wondering who and where you buy your supply of samegawa?..Thanks so much. And btw I keep watching your videos over and over again bc I want to learn how to do a full Tsuka.. 😊😎💯🌟👍
Could I get a list all the tools you used and parts needed, like what is the stuff you used to weather it
what you use for weathering the ray skin
What is the average price of your service? Seeing how very right THIS was done makes one appreciate how it can very easily go very wrong. Especially with the mass-produced katana.
That is so cool🤩😱👌🤯
What is that metal clamping tool called I can't fine one anywhere
Bravo!👍
can i ask what did you use for weathering the skin?
where can i buy those tool for wrapping? please help
Amazing 👍👍👍👍
What is the liquid you brush on the samegawa to weather it? Where can samegawa be purchased? Thanks.
hello....i like so mutch your work!!!thanks for sharing...a question, witch kind of pliers do yoy use in the video? and where i can find right tools? thanks
Ah, i made it from the design i searched on internet :) From my country, its hard and expensive to find right tools, so I had to remake and find smt similar which i can used
@@binderdozen tanks for reply can you share the right design to do by myself thanks
I want to learn more. Starting with, what that clamp tool you're using ? I can't seen to google it.
Please can you inform me what is the glue you are using?
Where do I get the samegawa in the Phillipines? What’s your source
Who makes the sword you weaped the handle for ?
Good job, i would like to know what kind of concoction you dye your skin with 5:11
so is there paper behind every twist of the ito? thats an interesting fact that I had no idea about till now....also I thought ray skin wasn't allowed to be in the market anymore
Very good. Health and safety in the U.K. would have a field day with you sanding the edges like that lol
Excellent work , do you take orders for Tsuka rewrapping ? Also can you teach us how to tie the knot on saya ?
Bonjour ou peut on se procurer la pince . Merci
What kind of clamp is that ?
Or May I know the list of tools I need for starters?
can you do that if i send you tsuka and how much you will charge?. Thank you
đẹp!
Where do you get such excellent ray skin? I can’t find where to buy any for my own rewrapping project
You can find Karyo Dumadi on fb. He sells ray skin worldwide ^^
Hello, thank you for your videos. I used them to wrap my vovinam vietvodao swords. But I have a questions : - how do you make your glue?
www.thejapanesesword.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=292 I had to test so much to find out the correct formula for the glue stick, because of the weather at my country is so hot to make the glue to wet
@@binderdozen the link unfortunately doesn't work!
Bro, could you tell me where you buy the stingray skin and the ito sageo, please? thanks for your video. They are an inspiration to me, my friend
You can see many new videos on my channel. This one is old haha. By the way. I got ito, sageo from Tozando and samegawa from mr Karyo Dumadi, you can easily find him on fb
Bạn có bán đây ko bạn
this best boxed
Amazing!!! What do you use to color the samegawa? min. 5:15
Ah I just used some leather dye powder to color it
VIETNAM TSUKA-MAKI, I kinda like that taisho-kin or koto with that rap beat music👍Do you know who the artist is that made this music combination?
Is this katana a full tang Sir?!:o
Beautiful Tsuka wraps. Your last green leather tsuka was organic and irregular, it had its own beauty but this one is classic - the diamonds are very clean. Love it! Do you make tsuka like this for sale? I am interested and would be glad if you emailed/contacted me back! cheers!
Thankyou, I'm so appreciate, for now, I just can restored tsuka from the old sword in Vietnam.
Was that a type of glue being put on through out the assembly?
On assemble, is no glue attach the blade to the other parts at all, just a small peg mafe by bamboo to hold the bled to the handle :) I just use Kusune _ a kind of glue stick, to paste glue to the string when I wrap. Kusune is made by rosin, bee wax, oil and charcoal powder
What liquid did you use for the weathering of the same'gawa?
Was going to ask the same...
What do the small pieces of paper do and won't they eventually decompose?
They help hold the shape of the twisted knot doesnt deform when I stretches the strings and of course they're organic so it could be decompose. So I had to lacquer all of them after finish
Good job 👍
Great job. Not so many people can do that Tsuka wrapping. Can you do that for my Tsuka? How much will you charge?
Thanks to interested in my work, im in Vietnam so I just wonder how to in and out my product, my price is so cheap, just about 100_150$/ tsuka :)
What is the name of the tool on the left, @9:18. I have scoured the net for days looking for a good tsukamaki hand clamp. I do see the clamp next to it, but I'm looking for that rounded bite tool's name. Thanks! Fantastic video! I recently did my second attempt at Tsukamaki with my home made hishigami from rice paper, on my Iaito. Feels fantastic, did a quality job, with synthetic silk. My first attempt was with cotton, and I didn't do bad there either, it's just you improve quickly once you understand a few things. when you make the first fold, you can keep a finger on top of the ito thread, to help form your triangles. (Triangles were the last thing on my mind, tight and right was forefront.) By the second try, I was ready. First fold needs actually folding before pulling tight, if you want it to look good, and for the second thread to lock in. Use a tool to tamp the hishigami and knot, and pull tight again. That's pretty much it.
Thanks to interested in our work^^ this clamp i made follow design of Hans koga, his works are really awesome.
@@binderdozen ahh, you made it, of course. That would explain why I cant seem to find one. Everyone seems to make theirs. ;)
@@binderdozen does that particular tool have a name other than Tsukamaki clamp? 😆 i ended up making my own but im not a blacksmith, still curious to find one. Only thing I've seen is 300+ dollars because they are specially machined. Rarity, however, will not make me spend 300$ on a maybe 40$ clamp. So ill keep looking.
Hi can i check where can i get the rayskin from? Thank you.
You can search Facebook of Karyo Dumadi, he's my supplier , very good quality of rayskin
VIETNAM TSUKA_MAKI noted will contact him.. thanks for the video.
Messed up that marker and node placement a bit.
I just bought a sword like that about two hour as ago- and a Piece of the part where you slide the sword in had rope and I thought that you were supposed to use it as like a back thing- I was wrong and don’t know how to tie it back... help?
I cant say anything without see the problem Can you contact my in Facebook? my page is Vietnam tsukamaki too
Is there an alternative to using ray skin?
yea cloth or Embroidered cloth or linen or just have a bare wood like some Antique examples you can use other types of fish skin also
Very nice... the only thing bad about this video is the modern tools.
Yeah I know, I really need to focus more to build up my skills :)
nothing wrong with that modern tools japanese sword makers use power hamers grinders and seen a few tsukamaki people use a band saw to cut the wood handle and ray skin
@@micahcampa nope, you're right there isn't, it just doesn't look right when making pieces inspired by ancient arts... Looks aren't everything either!
👍
Ah e biết a nay :)))) 🤣
👍👍👍👍👍
Where can you get Kusune in the US?
I dont know man, I made my own kusune by bee wax, cannola or sunflower oil
@@binderdozen can you make a video on how to make it?
@@hectorcortes7246 I will :) thanks for your suggest ^^
Listen, people want light weight camp knifes in America. You should collaborate with an American. They make the knife and you the handle. It would sell like hotcakes!!
