Plane Spotting at Manchester Airport - RW23L Close Up Rotations!

Being as last time we never visited any southside spots on our visit to Manchester, I thought it was well overdue this time, so once leaving the AVP I made sure we went to the woodend lane southside rotation hill, one of the best spots in the country for plane spotting! I do aim to do an 05R landings video here one day, but for now this is afternoon departures. I'm afraid by time we got here, around half 1pm, most of the transatlantic heavies had all departed, however there were still a few left, of which we caught, we missed the Virgin 747 by minutes!
The sun had also came out now, and it made for some nice summery weather, despite being a bit chilly in the 18kt winds, I thought it was nice that it felt summery and have a load of flights departing to Summery destinations like Corfu and Lanzarote, it added the feel to the video, and hopefully makes people watching it want to go on holiday
There was also an interesting incident which saw the closure of Runway 23L due to Foreign Object Debris, FOD being dropped across the runway, it was certainly interesting to see, thanks to the wind the debris got blown across the runway and needed a road sweeper to come and clear the runway, resulting in the closure for about 40 minutes, where Runway 23R became temporary single runway for the time being

  • NOONE out there films better than you. You somehow capture the essence from afar as tho we are right up there the entire way and into the air. You can feel the power and speed through film. The rest are just videos. Somehow you transcend that.

  • Manchester has the best mix of aircraft of any airport I can think of. It may be my imagination, but I enjoy the MAN a great deal, the spotting area is so close to the runway which may be part of it. You see everything from the Dash 8 to the 380. Is it just me that thinks the 737-800 is quieter than the 320?

  • Watching this old stuff cos there's not much new now! Yes, Manchester must be Britain's best spotting place and you do a Hell of a good job of making that obvious. Edinburgh not bad but my local airport Glasgow is terrible. No permitted spotting places and those that people use are obscured by fences or other obstructions. I look at your vids a lot and think they are really great - apprecieate that you include the destination of the flights. It may seem unimportant but somehow you feel more invested if you know where it's going - or at least it informs you where the airport serves, I suppose. No need for the airline or the aircraft type cos I can see that on the screen but it makes a huge difference to know where it is going (or coming from). Don't really know why. Please keep posting especially after the recent lockdown as it will be nice to see things come to life again. I love your vids.
