I can also relate to the feeling guilty or proud part. I'm from the Philippines and I'm a student studying in the city while my parents are in the province so every time I experience something new and wonderful in life, there's this guilt that I feel deep inside and wish that my parents are here to share the experience with. To anyone who's reading this, I hope that we achieve our dreams in life so that when the time comes, not only can we spoil ourselves but also the ones we love, too.

I was the only child and yes when I am alone and experienced something good, the first thing that comes to my mind was I wish my parents were around to experience the same thing in which feelings like that made me feel guilty, nostalgic which is heart-breaking but at the same time I felt lucky as I knew it was exactly what my parents wanted. That is what good parents want, they want the best for their children and it is that mindset that I will carry when the time comes I become a family man.

Your parents must be so so proud to have you. My mom always told me there's nothing more precious to a parent than having a grateful child, it makes the parents feel like they've lived a good life, raised reliable children and their sacrifices were worth it.

As the eldest daughter who become the first in the family to study abroad, this video is really relatable. I understand well the feelings on keep being stalled either to be proud or guilty. I am confused whether it's okay to feel excited for the summer/winter break because wishing the holiday to come faster means the faster my parents get old too.
As an oldest daughter getting closer to college, I really resonated with this.
This vlog is like a movie! Being alone gives you the perks of freedom but sometimes freedom by yourself can give you a sense of guilt as well. I hope we achieve the things that we wanted and be the pride of our parents and loved ones! You're in a beautiful city Jing!

that last part about wanting to be the tangible dreams of your parents hit way too hard oh my gosh. as an eldest daughter whose plan is to live alone, this was the most comforting video i’ve seen all day.
I can relate to that feeling too, the guilt of doing better than your parents. In our minds we know, that guilt is unnecessary. With loving and supportive parents like yours, this life you feel guilty to have is also a testament to their success as parents. I believe your father didn't toil day and night for you to live the same reality that he has had, Jing.

I used to feel the guilt that comes with leaving to pursue my dreams, but the alternative is that I stay put and don't do everything I can to make use of the life my parents worked so hard to give me! you know what, even though i wont be the first generation child to go to college in my family, i know for sure i'd be the first to leave india and eventually never return to settle. oxford has been my dream since i was 9 and almost a decade later, i'm still chasing it. your videos not only inspire me but they also give me hope that despite all the hardships that may come my way, i can still enjoy life upon the policy that "change is the only constant" and i'll forever be grateful

I really loved this vlog! It felt like watching one of those old period movies set in the english countryside like pride and prejudice or atonement. I liked the still shots of different sceneries, the little town was so pretty and the english countryside is so green and lush. I also relate to the feeling guilty part, im also an oldest daughter and i felt so so guilty when i went to live alone for school so I spent all my time working and studying to try and make up for it, if that makes sense. After graduating and talking with my parents though they explained that I didnt need to feel guilty and it would have been ok to take some time to myself to enjoy, while also being productive. Im really glad you took some time to yourself!

I relate to this so much! I moved across the country to go to university, and especially aa the first generation to go (and the older sister to little brothers) it is a lot of pressure and a lot of sister guilt. My father also works in construction so that bit really hit home for me! It’s a hard thought to have when working in a corporate world, but it’s why I work so hard so I can provide for them. That pressure is hard to shake and I don’t think we ever will, but all that matters is that you’re happy in the process x
