  • It’s great to see an interview of Adams where he is allowed to speak and not constantly attacked, and put on the defensive. This is an Excellent interview by paddy for that reason. The stepping stone Collins was talking about was the inclusion of Sinn Fein within Stormont via the peace process. Brexit is possibly a stepping stone towards a United Ireland, thanks to the work all those who negotiated in the peace process and fought for justice and Republicanism, and the ending of the troubles.

  • Class to see a man from the south with so much passion Paddy lad. Often you find nowadays that the people from the south, albeit a minority I would imagine, are completely oblivious to the north and think that we are a part of the UK by choice. You wouldn't believe how many times I've had people from across the border call me a brit, because I happen to have been born 2 miles from an imaginary border that was imposed on my people. When I had great grandfathers who fought in the Old IRA, for independence, when it was also my ancestors that had to live under the penal laws, and when my home town was completely decimated by the same famine that ravaged all of Ireland, as well as all of the shite that we have had to put up with since the 12th century and beyond. It is an absolute privilege to be Irish, and nothing saddens me more than to see that people have forgotten that. Go raibh míle maith agat, mo chara!

  • Free staters calling Adams a murderer whilst glorifying the Old IRA who fought British rule with arms: Nothing short of the worst hypocrisy. Don't forget they brought peace on someone else's terms and at a great political cost. A great deal of respect needs to be had for Adams and McGuinness, who did not choose to go to war; war came to them. People in the comments need to remember what happened in Ballymurphy and Derry before they point fingers. Northern nationalists did not start the conflict, but they broke their backs trying to end it.

    • Paddy like many Sinn Fein party members and many Irish Republicans fail to grasp the intricacies of what being a Republican means. Sinn Fein lacks integrity by their insistence on including Irish Nationalists and not Irish Republicans, and failure to differentiate one from the other. It’s left to the Irish people do decide and while I can take Adams seriously, as for Paddy there, he is a nationalist, and he visibly represents his community’s ignorance far more than he represents their issues. Best of luck to him though.

I have enormous respect for this man. I am sure he had to do things in his life that he now regrets. I am sure there are soldiers all over the world who have the same regrets. In many ways, he lost his youth to the violence as happens in war. He is no saint but he is also no devil either. To truly have peace we must shake hands with former foes and arrive at understanding. Much respect Mr Adams

  • As the son of a dad who was murdered by a Republican terror gang on Father's Day, not to mention the multiple relations shot and blown to pieces, I have nothing but dismay when listening to supporters of violence, be they Republican, or, indeed Loyalist!!! These people have bombed and mamed their way to the table throughout the years, and now paid handsomely for 'sitting together '!! The 'Irish problem ' was in full flow well before I was born, and will no doubt still be raging long after I'm 6ft under! I will say this though... If indeed there is a 32 county all-Ireland (I can't see it), you may as well turn the clock back 60 years, for I feel that once more blood will flow!! I know that on my death-bed I shall have numerous regrets, but I'll rest easy knowing that I have no human blood on my hands!! Will Gerry and the like have that same peace!? We all know what the answer to that is.......

The Greeks referred to us as the most ancient and when the force of Graeco-roman influence came to our shores in the guise of Scandinavians or British they called us barbarians. • Read a book called "Other Losses" by James Bacque. That will tell you everything about how the "allies" treated the Germans that surrendered after May 1945. Instead of treating these prisoners under the protocals of the Geneva convention, they were re-classified as "Disarmed Enemy Forces". Then they could do as they pleased. Dwight D Eisenhower said to his wife that he despised Germans! Almost 1 million were confined to open air camps in the Rhineland. Most of these prisoners died of starvation and exposure. We never hear about any of this do we.
