The Kingroon KLP1...Where do we start?
I had a lot of problems with this printer and in my opinion there are very few people who should buy it.
Are you one of those people? Let's find out.

  • Thanks for the review. I bought their newest version called KLP1-230 it was 325$ shipped to my door from Aliexpress. Same machine with slightly larger bed 230mm and now it comes with metal panels on the sides only panels that need to be installed are the front and top doors and are still black no lights. The whole extruder assembly looks different and it's an upgraded one according to their specs with higher torque. Spool holder and it's location is fixed now the holder takes regular 1 kg spool and still have space and does not obstruct top door. PTFE tube issue still same and filament runout sensor still same design. This is my first klipper printer the unload macro seems to be there but it does not unload the filament enough so I have to do it 2 or 3 times. Noisy fans still the same. So far never got printer to stop with no reason. Printed parts surface quality not the best but compared to my previous printer marlin bed slinger speed wise this is a Ferrari 😆. It is definitely not a beginner printer but for klipper corexy enclosed printer I would say not bad. Oh & the Kingroon logo light is now Orange instead of green. I thought I will keep this for new comers who will search for the klp1 and find the the one with 230.

  • My KLP1 was an absolute bargain at 250$. For this price I am ok with fixing some issues and I appreciate it running stock Klipper. I just wish there was more information about the internals, like pinouts for the board.

    • 250 where'd you find that on Black Friday, or was it on OfferUp from a person who didn't know how to print? I'll raise an eyebrow too, but check your local offer ups. You'll be amazed at what you'll find. I'm in Southern California. There was a dude in LA selling a Pursa 3 I think for like 450. By the time I contacted him, the printer was already sold. I think it was up for maybe 4 hours

  • Ricky, your videos have been a gift to the 3D printing community. You are one of the rare KZhead out there that will never sacrifice truth and knowledge for content/clicks. You are one of the most positive youtubers I've seen. With that in mind, if you are making a negative review, that is saying a lot and the company BETTER listen. Never feel bad for telling the truth and protecting the consumer. My respect keeps going up for you! Thank you for your integrity!

    • Thanks @mikehancho8930, I appreciate your opinion 👍 You wouldn't believe how many manufacturers are now trying to pay content creators to 'review' their products on the agreement that they see the video before they are published. I refuse to let any product supplier put words in my mouth as I value my integrity and the trust of my audience far more than anything they can offer me. Unfortunately, I doubt I can say the same for all content creators but I guess everyone has their own morals and code they live by. I try very hard to give manufacturers every opportunity to fix problems that I find as mistakes are inevitable sometimes. It's how you put them right that counts to me. Thanks for your support👍

  • Actually your review is totally correct. However, sometimes the KLP1 is sold for incredibly low price. I paid less than 280€ incl. tax and shipping on 11.11 sale on Aliexpress. Actually it was the latest version. Of course, with this low price and me beeing a tinkerer anyways, no way I could not buy it... On printables there are nice parts to raise the top, to solve the problem the bowden lifting the cover. Also I replaced the bowden by a longer one and also will replace the runout sensor and add a longer cable. The main reason I bought it, was for my holyday home. While I had collected some printers over the last 6 years, and have already a Prusa mk3s+ and a Prusa mini there (with Ikea Lack enclosures), my holyday home is 200 years old and has not the best heat insulation - and heating only in a few rooms. So in winter I do need enclosures even printing PLA. However, the Prusas check for a minimum temperature of 15°C and do not boot below. Using an normal heating device to preheat the enclosure (like I do at home) is a bit problematic due to the old house electrics. With the KLP1 it boots and I can simply preheat the chamber using the bed. So the next days I will do some tinkering and take it to my holyday home on X-Mas. However, I think it's quite a special scenario. I wouldn't recommend the KLP1 for beginners (maybe if they have experienced friends setting up and fixing the problems for them). But actually, if you get a sub 280€ deal, its a nice printer to tinker with. Quality Control is something Kingroon isn't good at. On my printer the hinges were mounted on the wrong side of the front door. Easy to fix - but very irretating. At the moment I definitly recommend Qidi printers. However, while the X-Smart 3 is the most simular to the KLP1 in function and price, if you want to save energy in your printers room in winter, you might invest a bit more for the X-Plus or the X-Max 3, with activly heated chamber.

    @oleurgast730@oleurgast7305 ай бұрын
    • Great comment, agree with everything. I'm currently testing the X plus 3 and it's great to have the chamber heater to get things going quicker on the cold days here.

  • Just got the NEW extruder assembly in today from Kingroon for the KLP1 and it cannot be used because my circuit board has different connections. I went ahead and removed the parts needed to rebuild the original and got it up and running. The prints are sloppy looking layers and again still more NEW problems found. I gave Kingroon a list of my complaints and explained the new issues. At least we did get a first full printed part off the machine but not acceptable for our client. At least this time the nozzle didn't try and drive itself down into the model today. My confidence in the thing is about shot now.

  • After doing a Qidi VS the new KLP1 last week I was asked to take down the video, which I refused. Meantime my KLP1 is dead and not working. Prusa slicer didn't work and Cura with the supplied files from Kingroon doesn't work. I tried Orca slicer and the nozzle jammed into the bed and twisted off. The long long LONG list of issues includes everything you mentioned and I've been waiting for parts from Kingroon now for weeks. I have since built a custom profile for Prusa slicer, but unable to test the KLP1. Before breaking the machine the other problem I encountered was after each print you had to reset the home location before starting up another print. 🤠

We'll done for not bowing to their pressure. I'm a little surprised by just how many positive reviews this machine is getting from other creators.

      @RickyImpey@RickyImpey5 ай бұрын
    • Kingroon requested today more details about my complaints. I told them it needs to be "user friendly". Sure I can play with the Gcode and even work up a slicer profile to run the machine, but new buyers should not have to do all this. I can't believe there was positive reviews ! Maybe they took cash and machine LOLOL.....ha ha ha....yeah.

  • If you think this thing is bad, get a Creality K1! I've been waiting patiently for you to get a K1, since you're about the only person on KZhead that actually makes videos and setup guides from start to finish without editing out and missing important steps. I've had my K1 Max for 3 weeks not managed a successful print and setting it up is near impossible compared to Gen1 printers. The PLA barely touches the build plate, and won't store the Z offset, so all my prints collapse unless I get the manual Z offset done in time at the beginning of the print (it needs the print to start before you can adjust the offset), then the first corner is loose and sometimes messes up subsequent layers. Due to this, I can only print larger stuff as the toolhead is in the way otherwise. Most of my stuff has collapsed and I've wasted more PLA than it's worth. I'm so close to launching it into the local landfill

    @locoworks8179@locoworks81795 ай бұрын
  • Yea, I won't be buying this one anytime soon. I agree with your opinion on the dark panels though I do like that they use acrylic panels rather than an all metal chassis. It is much easier to work on. I have a Ender 5 S1 enclosure and it uses the same awful dark panels. I am current adding led lighting though it is a challenge as there is not much room.

    @zk_6312@zk_63125 ай бұрын
    • Maybe if they want to retain some "awesome" factor, they can use two-way mirror glass. When the internal lights are off, it acts like a mirror from the outside. When the internal lights are on, you can see the interior clearly. I'm not sure if two-way mirrors can be made of acylic, though.

      @yeroca@yeroca5 ай бұрын
    • @@yeroca I am not sure if I would want mirrored panels though maybe on the back and one of the sides. I would prefer clear panel or maybe some translucent panel that is not so dark. They do have specialry silver paint that would have a mirror effect though it would probably easier to use an unpainted aluminum panel which should reflect enough. Though just putting led strips inside should be a big help.

  • Wow most of your issues are non issues. For the screen, they are all the same. My brand new Creality is the same. Use your nail to tap the screen , not finger. The top lid which is a problem with Creality and Bamboo as well. Leaving the top out until there is a fix. The filament load script missing is an issue they have to fix, and apparently they fixed it with new firmware but you didn't say it. For filament load use a skirt that does the job so you don't have to waste your time with the load process. The don't install three side panels so they don't get shattered. Install Allen screws? No big deal. Treasures 3 minutes. Better than hours on the phone with shipping company filing a claim. It works with any USB camera unlike others who sell you their own branded overpriced webcams. Did you mention the beautiful PEI sheet? You forgot to mention you paid half the price of competitors and that's an amazing job to bring core xy to the masses. At least you noted every print came out great. I'm not a fan, nor paid by Kingroon, and in fact I only own multiple Creality printers, but your review seems very biased. Your video could significantly hurt their sales for a company that is working hard to bring low cost top speed printers to the masses. All it needs is just some polishing all around. Qidi is much smaller. But you didn't mention the size difference. Research takes time. Very biased.

  • Oof. So many small issues that just... Shouldn't be there. At least they fixed most of the simple firmware issues, but the rest are also easy fixes that should not take very long. The front door should be clear, the screen should be accessible without opening the door, the top lid should be raised and clear the PTFE tube and wires, and the filament roller should be longer with a bearing. None of this would significantly increase cost and it would make it a far better machine. All that plus upgraded firmware and it would actually be competitive.

  • It's a real newbie thing to do to prioritize aesthetics over usability and reliability on a 3D printer. Based on this model, I don't think they have what it takes to be in this business. They need to hire a great QA team that won't let big mistakes like these out the door. Almost all of these problems should have been caught during prototyping, really.

  • Good afternoon. Nothing is said about poor printing with soft plastics. Large gaps in the feed mechanism often lead to chewing. When the chamber is closed, materials like PLA and PETG overheat and form a plug. The design of the heating unit is, to put it mildly, strange. The fan of the thermal barrier is connected to 24V, it is not regulated in any way. The housing of the feed mechanism is combined with the radiator and has its own design, because of this, its modernization is impossible. Only replacement of the printhead assembly. To upgrade this printer to, at the moment, +-0 ready-made solutions.
