  • 1.0 until 1.18 was Minecraft's dark years for me. The terrain generation took a turn for the worse in an attempt to emulate real terrain in this fantasy adventure game where you punch trees. For ten years I had to make builds *in spite* of the terrain, which influenced me into learning to enjoy the technical side instead, because that was the only part of Minecraft that still allowed for creative freedom. Now, with 1.18, which for me is Minecraft 2, the terrain actively inspires me to make buildings on it, and the caves provide a sense of adventure. The Nether update added a lot, too.

    • I'd say 1.7.2 made things a bit better since infinite oceans were no longer a thing (though it seems they have kind of returned with 1.18) and added a whole ton of new biomes, prior to that the lack of biome diversity in the game (especially since terrain was basically the same across all biomes except Extreme Hills) was quite depressing

      @kmb600@kmb600 Жыл бұрын
    • @@kmb600 I would love to have continents and actual oceans. Even better if they have different climate zones. I recently played 1.6 to try to get a sense of how giant oceans work out, and i preferred it (the land-to-ocean ratio, not the biome). The only issue with it was that there are no fast travel methods (now we have elytra) and once you reach the other side, you just find the exact same terrain that you had before. So sitting in a boat for a while doesn't pay off.

      @pixelplanet142@pixelplanet142 Жыл бұрын

I bought jave on 2017 and i like even more but lately with the new uptades i started to lose interest in it. Everything just bacame so complicated but so easy as well at the same time because you know everything. Back then minecraft was simple not to many stuff in the game but still pretty hard for a newcomer which was intentional and i liked it. Minecraft doesn't feel like minecraft anymore it is supposed to be a siple sandbox game but it has now become a pale game that get better and worse every time with no future if the continue like that.

  • I heard about Minecraft when I got into college. How the game plays out, at first, didn't feel like the game that connects to me. All I was told that it's a sandbox game that plays similar to Mario 64, and it wasn't. I drop the game fast and just went on to do my own thing. It wasn't until October 1st, 2020 that Steve was playable in Smash Ultimate, so now I have to try out Minecraft again and see where my time takes me so far. With the help of friends this time, starting off with 1.18 Nether Update, I really see how much improvements Minecraft has done and in less than 2 years, I made tons of achievements and advancements that I consider the game nostalgic for me now. I wasn't there when 1.0 was out, but if they can create a 2.0 update, I could try to replicate the feelings people had for 1.0, and if I do, I'm consider a Minecraft veteran certified.

I even ended up getting the Xbox 360 version when it launched, and the unique tutorial world as well as some of the other unique changes it had were fun. Interesting fact about the Xbox 360 version: It was the only version to allow splitscreen multiplayer, but only if you were playing on an HDTV. At standard definition resolutions you could only do 1 player per system.

  • What if they just added a little feature that was called random spawn? When you spawn in the gAme it’s completely random to a 100,000 by 100,000 square or a circle with a diameter of 100k blocks. That way if you did a realm, it would be a little spread out and y’all would have to travel to a central location to start basing.

It was a whole new game when village mechanics were expanded and codified so to speak. Gave purpose to the things I like to do. That said, I always miss my first two worlds. I wish I could go back to them and update them drastically. Especially the second iteration. But I prefer the biome layout of my current world and I've built up too much to want to even consider starting over, despite a lack of modern generation around the already built up areas. • Plenty of people are now having nostalgia and claiming Minecraft 1.0 was much better But to be honest, now Minecraft 1.0 feels very unfinished. Just try downloading the version on the Java launcher and playing it, I did it a few months ago. There have been so many quality of life improvements, added blocks and cosmetic changes that have made it much better. I couldn't go back there. Recent updates have been great, even if most added things have been useless. I might disagree with a few of the changes, but the necessity of change was apparent (Nether and Caves, especially) and I like the general direction. The main problem though, seems to be a focus on quantity over quality and adding features for combat and exploration minded players and technical players, over creative and builder-oriented ones. In addition, I feel like all the features are end-game and the main game progression has been changed quite little

Everything is becoming progressively easier as more features and workarounds are added without considering most other aspects. • I started playing the same month that 1.0 released, because my friend told me about it and gave me a cracked version to play. It was alpha 1.8.1 though, not 1.0. I was obsessed with the game throughout 2012, and played through most of 2013, but started falling out of it in late 2013, early 2014. I came back to it in 2020 and decided to buy the game officially. And though I got newer versions of the cracked version in my days of playing, I think the latest I had was 1.7.2 or something. So coming back to 1.16 was honestly really fun to see how much changed. And I like seeing what new things they'll add, even if it's not always what I want. Just happy to see this game have such a long lifespan to the point where it's still in the spotlight after 11+ years. Someday it will be over, but it's nice to be a part of this. To play the game while it's still evolving before it solidifies and updates for it eventually end. They've done such a great job at making this a very user friendly game. Support and pretty rapid bug-fixes, not charging money for every little bit of extra content they add, and welcoming mods with open arms. It's honestly refreshing. That's why I appreciate the game and am glad to see it succeed so strongly.

  • As to the question that you eventually get to in the video -- I'm sure that Minecraft has had internal discussions about what Minecraft 2.0 would look like. Without speculating on what that might look like, don't we think that it could well be as major an update as 1.0?

  • Very good video. I appreciated this thinkpiece but also I think there's some objectivity to 1.0 being the best update. It added the most interesting mechanics, it changed so much while also not feeling like it undermined the previous game. I started playing in 1.2.5. while I don't think we can truly seperate out nostalgia from reality, I do think that Minecraft 1.0 was something insanely special and I appreciate Minecraft's art direction in that time because it truly and utterly blew my 12 year old mind. So many game mechanics which were borrowed from other games, I found bewildering at the time. But I am still enamored and continually kept playing by these amazing game mechanics that were added in over a decade ago now.

    • That having been said though, nowadays I think potion brewing and armor enchanting are bad mechanics. Thick and mundane potions are just cruel and pointless, and I still don't understand why there's recipe menus for all sorts of toolbenches but I still have to consult the wiki to remember which obscure item gives night vision. Enchanting is RNG to the point where a chest full of wooden shovels has become an entire part of the meta. Thankfully it stopped taking away 30 levels for a full-level (and entirely RNG) enchantment; back then you were basically forced to find a tutorial on how to make a mob farm, take a ridiculous amount of time for your next enchantment attempt, or just give up on enchantments altogether.

  • I joined in Beta 1.7 and took a hiatus from the game at Official Release 1.7 because the game was too much to handle for my computers. I think I came back like in 1.9 or some time then when I finally got the game again on the Wii U. Times really have changed tbh and now I play Bedrock over Java until someday I get a better computer.

  • MISTAKES: 6:47 actually the first world border was 12,000,000 blocks, being the farlands but i think you could still go to 15 million. the second world border stayed until release 1.8 and was 15,000,000 blocks and then after that it was 30 million 11:51 you are wrong. it was built around beta 1.6. the first xbox 360 version did not have villages, which were a beta 1.8 feature. they also did not have pistons. which was a beta 1.7 feature. 15:29 the snowgolem and villager were both beta 1.9 features. not release 1.0 features 16:34 hunger was overhauled in beta 1.8

  • I think that IF they ever decide to make a 2.0 update it will be the last major one to the game, there would probably be 1 or 2 small updates following but then they'd be done. Otherwise they may just stop updating it one day, both I really hope do not happen but I'd take the former over the later haha.

  • People complain but soon nostalgia will kick in for this new era starting with the aquatic update. Yeah caves and cliffs had a messy release & the community is disgruntled but step back & look at the game since 1.13, see the difference from 1.0. Its polished, there is so much more to do all around and in my opinion it looks 10x better (i was never a fan of some of the old textures).
