Ep. 329
Dr Jordan B Peterson and Dr. Judith Curry discuss climate change, the major error in current models and future predictions, academic fraud, and the need for dissenting opinions.
Dr. Judith Curry is an American climatologist with a Bachelor’s degree in geography from Northern Illinois University, and a geophysical sciences Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Curry is the professor Emerita and former Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She has had an accomplished career, working with NASA, the US Government, and numerous academic institutions in the field of climate change. Curry advocates for a non-alarmist approach, acknowledging Earth’s rising temperature with a grain of salt-in-field research, and a refusal to shut the doors of science to those with opposing views and findings. In 2017 Dr. Curry retired from her position at the Georgia Institute of Technology, citing “the poisonous nature of the scientific discussion around man-made climate change” as a key factor. Curry co-founded and acts as president of the Climate Forecast Applications Network (CFAN), which seeks to translate cutting-edge weather and climate research into tenable forecast products.
Dr Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: utm.io/ueSXh

The only politicians that are a bit more trustworthy then your next door used car broker are politicians who never wanted to be politicians, like Donald Trump or Dwight D Eisenhower (the only reason he became president was to avoid that some shady politician would use the nuclear bomb to destroy the soviet union, which was a valid plan in the beginning of the 1950s!) And sorry, media will also not explain you complex topics in a meaningful way. Just because we are here doesn’t mean the planet will not continue its cycles just because we are here. It never ends well for anyone that tries to go against the plans God has. 🙏🏻. And we are gaining 0,3°C by decade. Not much. Just do the math for a century. I can't already use the upper level of my house in summer (South of France). From June to September, we live in the dark. The winegrowers water the grape. Never seen. But water is rationed. Judith Curry's position is political. I read her "Plan B", it's vague. She is out of her area of expertise, lists generalities and doesn't talk much about climate. In her introduction, I found this absolute stupidity : "If climate models are to be believed, reducing emissions will do little to improve the 21st century climate, with effects only occurring in the 22nd century and beyond." That shows she just didn't understand the fucking problem. We don't do that for us, but for the future generations.

Hurricanes are not greater in size or frequency than they were 100 years ago either. Regional changes in weather patterns do not constitute a global climate emergency. The climate is always changing. Always has. And where on earth did you read 0.3 C per decade. That is patently false. According to HADCRUT4 (the longest standing global temperature record) we have gone up about 0.7 C since the 1940s (the period where mass production and rapid industrialization began) and about 0.5 C the 70 years prior to that. Saying that Judith Curry is out of her area of expertise along with your idiotic lack of knowledge of even basic climate related data clearly shows you don't a have clue what you are talking about. Curry is a Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology and currently runs the Climate Forecast Applications Network, a climate-risk consulting company. She has published over 130 scientific peer-reviewed papers. If there was someone who was more of an expert on "the fucking problem" they would be hard to find.

    • Since 2010, i begin to doubt because i discuss with people who had made their homework. Then i was sceptic about the fact that we were using «low emission» for «green». Finally, myy own research in official canadian papers showed me that canadian climate has never been seriously studied, that we have no idea (canadian paper's are based on IPCC prediction and not on factual proxy) AND i saw by myself that some data had been «corrected». I work 50 km away from home. In 10 years, around the highway, i saw the land being massively changed, a lot of parking lot, shopping mail, even small city's, . SO no evaporation from trees (no more trees), no albedo and massive heat accumulation during the days. So on that 50 km alone, where the temperature use to be 2,3, or 4 colder than the the closest city (MTL), it is often the same. But you go 10 km north and it is STILL colder, as before. My point, whit these fact alone, you have «warming», but is it cause by CO2, i doubt it. Albedo is much more plausible (green trees VS black higway...) Guess what, where there is an official meteo station, that uses to be surround by forests, the is now a suburb...

Every decade or so, "Experts" would give the grift a new name. After several decades went by (I'm 50), and nothing really changed, I did a little digging. Humans Occupy roughly 5 percent of the earths surface. 5 PERCENT! They tell us that we produce to much co2. You know what needs co2 to grow? The Plants that provide us with oxygen. Guess what happens when there is no CO2?. They have convinced the masses, that the 5% of area that humans occupy on the Earths surface, can effect the earth's climate. LOL Humans have the same effect on the earth's climate, as a fart in a hurricane.

    • According to Brenda Cossman, a professor of law at the University of Toronto, Peterson is “fundamentally mischaracterizing” Bill C-16. “I don’t know if he’s misunderstanding it, but he’s mischaracterizing it,” Cossman says. (Brenda Cossman spoke to Torontoist about this, but you can find what else she’s said on the issue here.) Cossman says it seems Peterson is trying to argue that the misuse of pronouns could constitute hate speech. “I don’t think there’s any legal expert that would say that [this] would meet the threshold for hate speech in Canada,” she says. Our courts have a very high threshold for what kind of comments actually constitutes hate speech, and the nature of speech would have to be much more extreme than simply pronoun misuse, according to Cossman. “The misuse of pronouns is not equivalent to advocating genocide in any conceivable manner,” she continues. “If he advocated genocide against trans people, he would be in violation, but misusing pronouns is not what that provision of the code is about.” Cossman, who has participated in a debate with Peterson, takes issue with the way he uses the language to describe what could happen if he was found in violation of the Ontario Human Rights Code. “If he was found guilty by the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, he would have been doing something illegal but not criminal,” Cossman says. In other words, he wouldn’t go to jail. Jail is only a punishment for committing a criminal offence-a violation of the Criminal Code. If Peterson was found to be in violation of the code, there are different possible remedies. He could be ordered to pay money, he could be ordered to correct the behaviour, he could be ordered to go to training, etc.

Going against the vast majority view of climate scientists, she had suggested to newspapers that most of the recent global warming was not human-caused, and had hinted that IPCC scientists are motivated by "funding" even though they are not paid for their contributions.[24] "

      @DocMonkWarrior@DocMonkWarrior Жыл бұрын
    • @@DocMonkWarrior Yes indeed. The wind-speeds of the Venusian and Martian atmosphere also change inline with solar activity. Venus having no magnetosphere of its own has thus a hotter and denser atmosphere than Earth would have, if it was at the same distance from the Sun, inline with the true physics, because its atmosphere is receiving a greater share of solar particles. The models also ignore solar x-rays. To be pedantic, these should not even be called models as a ‘computer model’ is defined as algorithms that simulates something physical. These CMIP’s are just trying to match correlations with too few variables at too gross a resolution and as every scientist knows ‘correlation is no proof of causation’. James Hansen (who’s hypothetical nonsense about Venus started this all off) was also a NASA planetary scientist and one must question if he considered the promise of fame and fortune a fair price for his soul. At least Judas Iscariot repented. In the meantime, Earth continues to blindly follow physics rather than the IPCC.

    • TEN separate studies confirm the scientific consensus on climate change. TEN. 80 academies of science and ALL of the world's major scientific institutions publicly endorse the consensus findings. Is there something to worry about? Let's look at the data that neither Jordan, an unqualified clinical psychologist, nor Curry, part of the 0.1% of refuting scientists, thought important enough to mention in the video: 1. Sea level has risen four inches since 1993 and the rate of rise has doubled since then, according to NASA, NOAA and the U.S. Geological Survey. Both satellite altimeter data and worldwide tide gauges agree on the numbers. Two different methodologies, same numbers. 2. High tide flooding along the American south and Gulf coasts has risen 400% and 1100% respectively since the year 2000, according to NOAA. Even the northeast, which is uprising land from glacial rebound, is up 140%. 3. The rising tide is why cities up and down the American coastlines are spending billions on defensive measures: Houston, a $30 billion flood mitigation project. Louisiana, a $50 billion project. New York, a $61 billion dollar project. Miami Beach has already moved buildings, installed a massive pump system and raised 105 miles of roads. 4. The cost damage directly attributable to sea level rise from Hurricane Sandy's storm surge into New York has been pegged at $8 billion. Sandy's was a minor cat 1 storm surge. 5. Hurricane intensity has increased 8% per decade, according to NOAA. A Taiwanese study of typhoons shows the same intensification. 6. Heatwaves have tripled since the 1960s, according to the EPA. 7. Marine heatwaves have increased 20-fold, according to the University of Bern. The shrimp fishery in the Gulf of Maine completely collapsed due to warming waters. The lobster fishery in southern New England also collapsed due to warming waters. So did the cod fishery. 8. Extreme precipitation events are increasing steadily, according to the EPA. That's because warmer air can hold more moisture. The cost directly attribitable to global warming from Hurricane Harvey's epic rainfall over Houston has been pegged at $67 billion. 9. The incidence of drought, drought duration and drought intensity are increasing worldwide, according to the IPCC. 10. According to the U.S. Forest Service, wildfire seasons are now a month longer than they were forty years ago. 11. Tick and mosquito-borne disease has increased 60% worldwide, according to the data, as both insects thrive in warmer weather. Even flesh-eating bacteria has extended its range. 12. According to a 2021 UN bulletin, major environmental disasters worldwide nearly doubled in the previous 20 years.

When he has an expert guest, he should (IMO) try, as briefly as possible, to find out what she thinks and make his own speeches to challenge her only where he disagrees or needs elucidation. I found his long-winded expositions, followed by her challenge/ correction, doesn't make it easy to follow her position. I'd recommend his listening to Freddie Sayers on Unherd. We can use all we understand to talk about likely trends and so on, but we just don't know EXACTLY what's going to happen. So if someone wants to call attention to the worst case scenario (which is something it's legitimate to worry about), that's great. If someone wants to express hope for the best case scenario (which is something it's legitimate to hope for), that's great too. But no one gets to invoke the "certainty of science" behind their projections. That certainty simply isn't available. In all of these cases we will be discussing POSSIBILITIES. No one should claim otherwise. I'm very impressed with the degree to which Dr. Curry seems to "have it going on." Sharp lady.
