my "newfie" Sully was 14 when he passed in 2020, Best dog ever. He was 147 at his heaviest. Looked identical to Bear.

This was a really cute video - the hiccup moment was the best! You also made a great case for people to get a dog. I’ve had two since 2015 (I rescue older dogs) and I can’t imagine life without one! Bear is a lucky dog!

I can tell you why having dogs helps with mood disorders...at least from a first person perspective: unconditional love, emotional bonding and support, as well as more physical activity!

Dogs really do help depressed people. I've been to a couple mental hospitals, and pet therapy was always amazing. The way that people's faces lit up when they saw the dogs was amazing. Dogs are awesome.

I'm actually so proud that you made the little effort to learn how to pronounce Newfoundland properly. I'm not from there but I am from PEI which is one of the four Atlantic provinces including Newfoundland. I never hear people from outside of the Atlantic pronounce it properly so to see a New Yorker pronounce it properly was amazing.

We had a Newfoundland dog growing up he was the most gentle soul. Soo handsome and huge. He lived to be a wonderful age of 18 before he passed. Congratulations on Bear he is soo handsome

A few years ago I was really struggling with hypochondria and my worst fear at the time was dying, so not a good mix. Anyways, I got a puppy and it was almost like all of my hypochondria and anxiety was gone. It’s a truly amazing thing and I’m so grateful for my dog.

Your dogs are gorgeous beasties. Newfie dogs are wonderful, aside from their drool. They're great dogs for apartment living, as well as for living in the country. They're calm and peaceful, and they're just great overall. I love all animals, and I'm glad that I grew up with both cats and dogs, as well as being able to spend time with other animals from time to time. I have a cat myself, and he's purrfect for me. He's been with me now for over 14 years, and he's still like a kitten a lot of the time. His purrs and generally calm demeanour are so soothing and calming, and he's been nothing but a blessing to me. I don't know if you've done a video on this, but I think that a video on how good pets are for people. Not just cats and dogs, but other animals as well. I firmly believe there's an animal out there for everyone.

My dog was a certified therapy dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and my husband and I were certified partners w/our dog. We took her to special needs classes w/autistic children and it was amazing how some of the severely autistic children would interact w/her. She also participated in the R.E.A.D. program where children that have difficulty reading, read to the dog and it was so much fun. We went onto further training so she could visit hospitals and literally participate in physical therapy sessions at a rehabilitation facility where patients recovered from open heart surgery, stoke, traumatic brain injury, etc. Our dog loved it and so did the patients. We often had patients that would not experience pain during certain exercises when our dog helped. It was one of the most rewarding things my husband and I ever did. We loved seeing the patients and our dog enjoying themselves as the patients got better. We would have patients who were leaving the hospital stay until they could say thank you and good bye to our dog. Any therapy animal can provide so much support and happiness to patients, the elderly, children and of course just regular people. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity of sharing our lives with such a special dog, we love her like no other!

A few years ago my husband had surgery and I was in the waiting room. A family with a boy about ten was sitting near me. It was clear to be the boy had some time of disability. While waiting, a therapy dog came in the room. The dog made a beeline for the boy. The boy lit up and boy and dog had a great time together. The dog stayed with the boy the entire time she visited the waiting room. It seemed to me that he sensed the boy needed her. After to dog left, the boy’s dad took him to the restroom. The mom looked at me with tears in her eyes and told me the boy talked and played and laughed with the dog more than he ever had with any person. She told me she and her husband were going to take the boy to the shelter to get a dog ASAP.

- Some dogs will train themselves to take care of their human. Thought you might like this. My precious pitbull mutt, Rose, figured out how to make me eat when I haven’t eaten, figured out how to help me during a depressive episode (I sometimes scream and hit myself) by laying on top of me to hold me still, AND is smart enough to understand when certain animals are part of the family and will adopt any baby animals. Well, if they’re mammals at least 😂. Though she won’t touch birds unless it’s cooked chicken 😂

A few years ago my dog saved my life. I thought I had a really heavy flu. My dog was acting really weird. She literally would not leave my side, was whining, as I would drift into sleep she would nudge me awake. A few days of this, I was getting worse and her actions more intense. I gave in and went to the Dr who had me rushed to the hospital via blue light ambulance. Turns out I had septicaemia and was close to dying. Dogs are amazing!

- I googled Septicemia because I’d never heard of it and wondered if it was related at all to Sepsis. Turns out Septicemia is just another name for Sepsis. Didn’t know that.
