  • I highly recommend you burn all the paint off every single part of that before cooking food in that. Paint chemicals being burnt are VERY toxic. Otherwise, awesome build!

  • I bought a home in 82. The Garage had this same fire Place. This has been around 40 years they work great but they have to have The tube vent with shutter Going up and out the craling as a fire place. So You don.t get afixiated.and They find you dead with a smile on your face. Cause You were proud of the job you did.

  • Very nice project. I would take the liberty of giving some tips in order to improve, somehow, this stove/barbecue. 1) I would have use adobe and chicken wire instead of bricks. Less work and less portland cement. 2) The casts in the bottom are going to collapse simply because they are attached with self tapping screws, that overtime mil get loose. In the event that making this nice work of ingenuity movable,I would have welded a strong metal base and fix strong metal casts with welding as well. 3) Instead of self taping screws for the doors I would had used bolts and nuts or simply weld the hardware Please excuse my uncalled and presumtuous comments, I just trying to find a better approach to make your amazing creation a lot more durable.     • Thank you for these suggestions. I don't know much about building and construction at all. As a female at 63 yo (single) I was never taught these skills growing up- but I'm a great cook, sewer and gardener. Go figure! Those were the times I grew up in. I'm wanting to build an outdoor stove so I often wonder how durable (and safe) some of these fire builds are on you tube.

  • Put the burning wood on the bottom section and your meats on the grill located on the middle section and close the lid on the top with a small adjustable hole to let some smoke out and what you have is a slow-cooked Texas-style barbecue! Smoke the meats for 6-9 hours and the meats will be super tender, fall right off the bones and full of smoky goodness! Try it and you'll love it!

  • Good idea. Imagine the possibilities with a few adaptions grid wise inside and on top. Solid round plate on top for cooking an entire meal. Inner thin solid plate for pizza, bread, roasts etc. Will emit nice radiant heat as well in winter. How about a coil of copper tubing on the inside also with a water feed? Hot water....

  • After the first time usage, the clay cracks and there appears a gap between the clay and the bricks. I can imagine if I stroke it slightly, it would fall off the bricks immediately. I think it would be better if you pasted mortar instead of clay.

    • But what is the purpose really of the bricks and the clay? some sort of insulation so the sides wont get too hot so people/kids/animals wont burn themselves? I intend to use a drum for backyard cooking but i was thinking about filling it with sand. on top of the sand use wood for the fire and above that a cast iron pot. I noticed the poster used the bottom part as well but personally i dont need that i think.
