  • LIV had 25 players in the 2021 Masters… 35 players in the British

  • Been saying this for a while. I’d hardly consider it a win if multiple of the best players in the world can’t compete

  • I don't really mind the Gooch statement. I don't agree with it in the utmost extreme context it's in, but for someone trying to make a case for LIV guys to earn a way into the majors it makes sense and Gooch has been doing well since going to LIV (he's won 3 LIV events). How that equals out in the scheme of things is difficult to say. On the side comments where apparently people have mentioned certain major wins deserve astrisks (no one on the podcast) because the star player wasn't playing is sooo ridonculous. What if that star player... Tiger Woods in his prime for example played poorly in a given major should that winner get an astrisk. And at the end of the day no star player dominates golf to that extent... Tiger is the closest to that degree of dominance, but to put it in perspective Tiger has won 15 majors (insane), but he's played in 90. Even if you want to only count prime Tiger Woods years.... over a 10 year period that's 40 majors and Tiger won 15 so for anyone to suggest an astrisks if he or some other star wasn't playing is so absurd there aren't even words. And sometimes you're going to get a Matsuyama (masters) and especially Brian Harmon who play so out of their mind that no top golfer could have topped if you had a time machine and grabbed the whole field and brought them back a thousand times to top the Harmon score (obviously the conditions would remain the same). Then there are some majors where it feels like the whole field crapped the bed (even with the best of the best playing) and someone was ultimately left standing who played less crappy then everyone else. I wouldn't give them an astrick either, but I tend to make a personal note... and think that wasn't a dominate major win... if you rolled the dice (time machine) on those.instances the winner would likely win a small percentage of time... Justin Thomas's last one felt that way to me (still great and still a major win) and even Mickelson's last one... don't get me wrong I loved the Michelson one and was rooting him on because as we know when a pro golfer gets into their late 40's and into 50's it's nearly impossible to win a major, so it was still exciting/awesome, but the field as a hole seemed to under perform and/or there wasn't a golfer or two who played exceptionally well, but the ultimate point being is... the two smaller name players had insanely dominate major victories, whereas a superstar could win one with less dominance... I digress.

    • Yes, he won 3 LIV events in LIV among 48 players in all events. He have to be good to beat other top players in LIV. Average number of players per PGA tournaments is 132, 144, 156.

    • @@steveg959 - Certainly winning a LIV event is certainly a big deal. You have DJ, Decahmbo, Cam Smith, now Rahm, etc, etc and we can see how challenging and difficult it is for them to get a win or a top 5. I'd probably rank a liv win above a non signature pga tour event.

Everyone who could win the Masters IS in the Masters...You even have Phil and Sergio...This dude hasn't ever come close to a major...so have him mention at least one name who isn't in it who would be a reasonable bet to win it. • I think Rory is a poor example but the argument is sound. The OWGR is becoming not fit for purpose. Brooks was 118th in the world at the time of the 2023 masters 😂 and had he not won the PGA a month later, would this year have been his last year in all 4 majors in having 5 year exemption since winning 2019’s PGA?…assuming there isn’t a “play until you are 60th rule or something?” The more top players LIV poach, the bigger the issue of OWGR not being relevant to the professional game.

    • @@SiLoMixMaster Do you at least blame him for not doing his due diligence before he joined LIV to see that it didn't even attempt to conform to the OWGR's rules for earning ranking points, or nah? All he had to do was look at the OWGR's rule set to see if Greg was full of it or not. If he had read it he'd have seen Greg was full of it. He can still qualify for the US Open and The Open. Sergio had to do that last year and he qualified for the US Open. It's Talor's fault he didn't look. Heck, he could have asked the head of Yasir's decapitation squad.

      @DaringDan@DaringDan2 ай бұрын
    • @@DaringDan Yes and yes despite the political BS he should have tried to qualify like Sergio etc did. Gooch not being invited to the ‘majors’ though detracts from the whole concept of them being ‘majors’ in the first place, if they don’t invite the best players from every tour then they are just glorified John Deere Classics, nothing special now as things currently stand

      @chex313@chex3132 ай бұрын
    • @@SiLoMixMaster That goes back to my main point. The OWGR rules for gaining world ranking points has been the way its been for YEARS before LIV came around. If Talor had looked before he joined he would have known he wouldn't get to play in them. It's his fault. He should own it, and instead he's whining. He got his bag of gold and he knew the personal price or should have had he done his due diligence.

  • LIV is a very exclusive and not competitive league. Some player's have decided to no longer compete against the best players in the world to be part of this exclusive league. There is no reason to cater to players, who decided for themselves, to not be a part of competetive golf anymore.
