  • 3:30 Something interesting about this is that I have a 7 month old daughter. She’s currently in the process of learning how to sit and crawl and all that. I was just thinking recently about how we always try to protect our falls with our hands and legs. I was thinking about it because she DOESNT do that. She doesn’t have that instinct to protect her falls. She just hits her head. Which is fascinating to me because that has to be a learned response. Like, most people would say it’s instinctual, but we can observe the fact that it’s not because babies don’t have this instinct. It likely becomes a learned behavior by all the times we fall as kids.

    @Henoik@Henoik4 ай бұрын
    • I thought it was also to reduce swelling, is that a myth?

      @ToxinBrewer@ToxinBrewer4 ай бұрын
    • @@ToxinBrewer Yes, that's a myth. Ice packs might, however, help with numbing the area for the time you have the ice pack on. But mostly it's still psychological really. The best thing you can do for the swelling is early application of compression (within the first 2-3 minutes of the injury). The first application of compression should be quite tight (remember, we're trying to restrict blood flow to the area) for about 15 minutes. Then, after 15 minutes, a looser compression can be put on, for the next 48 hours (but taken off when you are sleeping and showering). But under no circumstance do we want the compression itself to hurt or to cause numbing.

      @vegetablescankill@vegetablescankill4 ай бұрын

  • I agree with the icing one. I sprained my ankle while living with my auntie and she never iced it once. She wrapped it and deep massaged it like twice a day and would very slowly roll my ankle around. It was sprained for about maybe 2-3 days before I could completely walk on it again. Auntie never iced, just massaged twice a day for about 5-10 minutes. I'm not at all saying that it's a hack but it seems it'll help more than just icing it and laying there waiting to heal. It did hurt, of course, when she was massaging it but with a new day, the pain reduced significantly.

    • And who may I ask are U, because u made this comment specifically to gey my attention in hopes of a reply. Be careful now, there are extremely specific things needing to be conveyed to ME right at this point in time and space and if the words, energy, emotions and all connections do not add up, Well there are no excuses, Ive been forced to prove All that i am by d**kheads who think they are god and know everything lmfao and I indulged their Ignorance and stupidity cos how cld they actually know that they really were and are trying to destroy The Creator, "God" whatever the f*k u wanna call me, when all u have been taught and shown has been complete bull$hi+ filled with heartache and pain. Not to mention u all think I'm a man which clearly Im not lol, so yeh no, I didnt and dont need to be encouraged by a pretending copycat etc, I want real people with real souls who are trying to be happy and better beings to speak to and interact with who may be a little stuck and are seaking a lil clarity, so what u got for me, is valid and worthy of my time and energy, if so Id love to hear whats on ur mind

  • omg, THANK YOU for saying the bit about BP. my OBs were convinced i had pre-eclampsia because they would do my BP as soon as i walked through the door. mind you, the walk from the parking garage to the office involved flights of stairs and would take me 15 minutes to complete the walk. i had to beg them to take my BP at the end of each visit for a more realistic reading, and they always seemed astonished that it caused such a significant difference

  • the false hypertension thing drives me crazy. All of my doctor's that aren't primary care/medical take my blood pressure these days. The dentist and the optometrist always end up with high readings because they don't know anything about how to take it properly. The numbers have been so high a couple times I end up tracking my blood pressure three times a day for a couple weeks just to make sure.
