Ranking ALL 50 English Derbies WORST to BEST
You’ve missed a massive Derby between Luton and Watford which massively gets overlooked in derby conversations
U may be a bit biased but sure
some of the maddest shit I've ever seen is Luton v Watford years ago and I don't support either
Luton still boo Ashley Young even though he played for Watford approximately 278 years ago where he played Luton for a grand total of two times
The lower league teams’ derbies are way better in terms of atmosphere, change my mind
Impossible. It's just facts.
10 000+ < 50 000+ what games are u watching mate?
Well that’s exactly what you’d expect when more of their fans are local to that team? You haven’t uncovered something incredible mate
That is true as most big games have a lot of neutrals who just want a good game kinda kills the atmosphere
Cant
Great story about how massive the Plymouth Exeter derby is - my dads mate had a massive accident a few years back whilst working and broke his legs and pelvis. He is a die hard argyle fan and goes week in week out. A few years back he was given argyle fan of the year award and he was chuffed, was brought in to the hospital he was at with a newspaper team and everything, he was really pleased with the award. However for the newspaper cover he was told to shake hands with Exeters fan of the year as a sign of peace. Told the newspapers to fck off and rejected the award. They gave it to him anyway, but without having to touch an Exeter fan.
Bet the recent relegation dog fight test his heart pretty badly
But we stayed up COYG
I used to love it when Torquay was in the same league as Plymouth and Exeter 2011 I think it was good times
The North London derby is always fierce and entertaining especially this season. That's why it's my favorite.
No
Maybe it was 20 years ago, certainly isn’t now
One of the best in the world
We can be beating a different team 3-0 and sing about how much we hate them...just bs
Arsenal hate united more than spurs 😂😂
NLD is a proper Derby mate. There's proper hatred in it.
Yeah... but filled with tourists. If you really want to see hatred on a toplevel, watch De Klassieker from the Netherlands (my country). Even with a ban of away fans, you'll see and hear yhe hatred for the away team at any match.
@@WritingGeekNLCompared to other prem derbies, nld isn’t that touristy
@@WritingGeekNL Do you support Ajax or Feyenoord?
Lol what? Arsenal dont even hate spurs the most, its united they hate the most if you look at their fans on youtube and twitter. Probably cause united look at arsenal how arsenal look at spurs 😂
@@Johndoe-gf7eu What absolute nonsense. Ask any Arsenal fan living in Islington what club do they hate the most? Even Arsenal fans that don't live in England hate Spurs more than anything. And the same goes for Spurs fans.
Where's Luton Town vs Watford? We need to see this derby in the Premier League 1 day 👒🐝
championship next season will be good too
1. Old firm 2. Millwall vs West Ham 3. Tyne wear 4. NLD 5. Pompey vs saints
The Old Firm isn't an English derby mate.
I kinda want saints to lost the playoffs so we can see the return of the south coast derby in proper league play lmao
@@Millwall1885. I'd probably have villa blues over nld and pompey saints but I am a bit biased because I'm a villa fan
Millwall west ham lol. Cant be a derby if they never play eachother and never will again
@@user-ez7ed7fv2jwba v wolves over both enormous game
Got to think Wolves v WBA had to make the top 5 given how the cup fixture between them this year literally had to be temporarily abandoned for over 30 minutes due to crowd violence in the stands and on the pitch. Those black country yam yams bloody despise each other
I get what you mean but I’d expect that if any fan managed to get tickets in their rivals home end for a derby
@@Ftbl1973 Happened with Scunny-:Lincoln 20 years ago, and Lincoln are probably our 4th biggest rival.
@@Ftbl1973 That does happen all of the time though, it just never escalates into the scenes that happened at the Hawthorns. It is literally one of the oldest local derbies in world football, of course they hate each other.
@@GGMatt I’m not doubting the hatred at all, but I don’t think that should be an argument for it being more fierce as those are exactly the types of scenes I expect to see when something like that happens during a derby. What fan would let their rival celebrate amongst them? If they do it can’t be considered to be an actual fierce derby imo
@Ftbl1973 You "expect" to see them, yet it literally doesn't happen any more in England and hasn't done for decades... this was the first time a match was postponed due to crowd violence in England this millennium lol. There is no "expectation" for it to happen, hence this incident being as high profiled as it was.
My top 5 favorites personally are: 1. AFC Wimbledon vs MK Dons 2. Tottenham vs Arsenal/North London Derby 3. Leicester City vs Nottingham Forest 4. Merseyside Derby 5. Manchester Derby
Leicester vs forest???
@@Uk_youtubeclips11 Yes mate up the Leicester
@@Uk_youtubeclips11 yes it's a rivalry for some reason
Leicester vs Forest over The Brian Clough Derby?
@@booran. Forest derby is the true East Midlands derby
York vs. Harrogate: Battle of the Betty's tea rooms 😂
Wolves-West Brom derby is in the goat tier imo. Could be biased but after seeing how it was back in jan it has to be. Atmosphere was great and fans were mental
Agree 👍
Sure there are tourists at the top 6 derbies but you can still get really good atmospheres and hatred there
Maybe on social media yes
Having "tourists" shouldn't immediately be a bad thing though. All these lower league teams complain about threats of administration & having tesco meal deal level transfer budgets all the time but then gatekeep their clubs 🙃
the reading one was reading vs oxford. fantastic derby also i think the one in the stadium might be the kassam stadium (oxford's stadium) and so that might be oxford vs swindon
A Derby that never seems to get put in these Derby videos is Chesterfield vs Mansfield because we absolutely hate each other
The other Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire Derby (does it have a name, mine isn't very catchy!)
@@LazarouDave A few people call it the Miners Strike Derby but most just say chesterfield vs Mansfield
true that.
I always watch these vids to see where they put it but it just never comes up so underrated
Reading's derby is with Oxford United (COYY) Would love to see a mention of the Thames Valley Royals proposal at some point, feel like not enough people know about what almost became the MK Dons before MK Dons
As someone from Boro, I'll try to explain why our rivalries seem a bit weird. Geographically we're not near anyone. Because of this our culture is a mix between the north east and Yorkshire (middlesbrough is in North Yorkshire). So we've got the north east rivalries and the Yorkshire rivalries e.g. Leeds. The Derby county rivalry mainly just bottles down to both sets of fans being shall we say passionate
I only found out Boro is technically in Yorkshire because I went uni in Bradford, I was so adamant it was closer to Newcastle that I was cussing out the locals trying to tell me different 😂 Lovely & funny people, just a weird map glitch of a town though haha
Glad you give some recognition to the SWD. Only bubble fixture in the UK and it really is life changing the result from that game. Went to the swans win v Cardiff game in March where we won 2-0 and genuinely best day of my life my first stadium experience of a SWD.
Burnley v Blackburn was also a bubble fixture and I think still is too
Really enjoyed the video mate, all the best, been a fance since 2018♥
I've only ever been one derby in England and That was the Nene derby (Northampton vs Peterborough). The Hamburg v St Pauli Derby is insane. Was there last week. The city is pretty passionate about it.
1. West Brom vs Wolves 2.Pompey vs Saints 3.West Ham vs Milwall 4.Liverpool vs Everton 5.Crystal Palace vs Brighton (Honourable Mentions) Cardiff v Swansea and Shrewsbury vs Wrexham
This guy gets it. Brighton palace is such an under appreciated rivalry, many people just disregard it because of the distance
@@joetucker971yeah we ain't close, thank fuck, I don't want to be near brighton
As a Bradford fan i'd say the Bradford Leeds Derby is a strong one, we're still one of the biggest clubs in the bottom half in the bottom half of the EFL League and leeds are a very passionate club, we just literally haven't played a competitive game since 2014. I think if Bradford was a more Consistent League One/Championship Calibre team it would've likely made things mean a lot more. Same issue with Rugby where Rhinos and Bulls was a huge deal but finances and relegations really separated things, so really the key issue there is just not having the consistent games As for Leeds vs Man U, I imagine that was due to the "We Lived the Dream Era" of Leeds as well as more into the First Divison days but Man U have probably never considered Leeds a real threat especially when they had the full Prem Stranglehold. But I know its a real thing as my Dad's a Leeds fan and he almost spat at me for suggesting that Leeds should make a 49ers inspired Alternate kit just because it would've had red on it (Despite the fact he's also a 49ers fan)
I would agree-I'm a Bradford fan as well and while I've never seen one of these derbies in my time supporting the club I think it is massively underrated. I'm not saying its a big derby, not like Wimbledon vs MK Dons or Ipswich vs Norwich but I think if Bradford and Leeds played more it would be talked about more as a proper derby. Its definitely one of the closest derbies geographically.
Blackpool vs Preston is underrated history wise, with the Matthews vs Finney rivalry & all that.
Plenty of Swindon Town derbies gone amiss: against either Bristol teams, Reading and you can't forget Swindon vs Oxford, my dad almost got knifed outside the CG once. You could also say Southampton and/or Portsmouth as Hampshire isn't too far away btw STFC is my team if you didn't already know lol. Cheltenham is also one.
Not gonna lie the first video you made on this is actually one of my favourites
Arsenal v United is one of the goats rivalry They made the early thousands absolutely insane Can’t deny that Chelsea and spurs have a big rivalry, the battle of the bridge, those sort of games are insanity. United and Liverpool is average, the past few years have been one sided until recently
Keane vs Viera / Fergie vs Wegner looked like such great games too watch, all I hear about the time was that the games between the two were insane
Last year went to mk away all the way from Pompey 6 hours there and then for a stadium of that side
When i was in school, there was a kid called isaac who was a preston fan, he was class at football but stopped playing because once he got the ball, he was instantly snapped
Saw the bit at 1:33 with the yellow kit in a video on derbies and immediately thought It's Oxford and Swindon. The A420 Derby.
Fair play for giving the the south wales derby its credit but how did you mention Newport v Cardiff and not Bristol city/ Rovers v Cardiff in the Severnside derby? But i must admit its quite casual nowadays
Bro got a haircut between me clicking the thumbnail and the video starting 😂
Villa fan here. If Villa v Bluenose isn’t in top tier I will come for you Just finished the video. Very good 👏🏻, enjoy Dublin it’s class
I'm a Newcastle fan. I'd obviously say that the Tyne-Wear Derby is the best in the country, but I'd also say Villa Blues is a close 2nd without any contest.
Sunderland v Newcastle was an excellent first choice with West Ham v Millwall second would be my choice.
As someone who lives pretty much at the half way point between Swansea and Cardiff, I’m glad to see it get the recognition it deserves. Genuine hatred between the two clubs, maybe elevated by the rivalry between the two cities
I live in the middle of the two. I’m a Burnley fan but I know plenty of fans in both of those
As a crewe fan, macclesfield are barely our rivals. Port vale are our main rivals surprised that derby didbt feature here
Well said pal s500 derby
Norwich v Ipswich has about stewards between the fans, Burnley v Blackburn has an entire police force as do many others
Lezgooooo Vizeehhh, finally getting recognition as the resident Burnley fan🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Finally? 🤔🤔🤨
U ever been to united liverpool? Look at the game atmosphere in our 2:1 win last season
Apparently Crawley Vs Brighton is bigger according to this kid. Obviously knows nothing about the history of why these two clubs hate each other.
@@mundolioknows6447honestly embarrassing so glad burnley got relegated
Bournemouth vs Southampton isn't a real derby. Southampton fans will always see Portsmouth as their only rivals, and Bournemouth fans only chant about Saints ironically to rile them up - which has caused a situation where the only people seriously talking about it are Saints fans haha
As a saints fan I can confirm no ones cares or talks about Bournemouth, let alone getting riled up. Only one derby on the coast.
Hi Liam question is it possible for you to talk about Ipswich Town rise via their back to back promotions I could see you of some sort talking about it
Is Shrewsbury Wrexham on there? Classic derby making a return next year in league one after about twenty years
It's nice to see you not dismiss palace vs brighton considering how many fights I've witnessed at this fixture its nice for you to acknowledge its deffo a heated... rivalry (not Derby tbh though)😊
As a Hungarian Manchester United fan supporting since 2016, it breaks my heart that if I ever get to a United vs. Liverpool derby, I will be considered a "dirty tourist" 😭
don't listen to him he's just a burnley fan and his views imho scream xenophobic to me united is a big club and it's fans like yourself that make this club so great imho as well dw you won't be a "dirty tourist" in my eyes as long as you be passionate and be supportive of the club that's what matters the most for me.
@@ogome2927 Aww, sweetest reply ever. Thank you!
Coventry City’s main rivalry is Aston Villa. Been a long time since we played eachother, but it runs deep
One sided rivalry lol
tbh i'm from coventry and yes ik this is their mainly rivalry it's where the shit on the villa chant comes from but yhhh this has sort of now been diluted somewhat with cov being out of the top flight for so long as well
Not mentioned the a500 derby vale vs crewe as we not faced stoke in a while
Rivalry Rankings: 1. Tyne-Wear Derby (Sunderland-Newcastle) 2. Dockers Derby (West Ham-Millwall) 3. Black Country Derby (Wolves v West Brom 4. Merseyside Derby (Liverpool-Everton) 5. Second City Derby (Villa-Blues) HM: Gibson-Morris Derby (Boro-Derby County, this one’s sorta funny because of the lawsuits between the 2 clubs and the animosity between the fans because of it, but it’s also kinda dark because Derby County did almost die because of it.)
West Ham v. Millwall is such a historic derby, the blacksmiths Vs the dockers of London.
You forgot palace v millwall that’s proper rivalry back in the day I would say that’s more then with Brighton
Interesting with Brentford and QPR... QPR tried to buy out Griffin Park & Brentford back in the 50s or 60s (not 100% sure) bc it was bigger than Loftus Road at the time!
Rotherham-Wednesday could be a derby just like how Monza-ACM/Inter could be if Rotherham and Monza were actually competitive This is because like how Monza is a suburb of Milan, so is Rotherham. It’s just the Millers are significantly smaller than Wednesday.
Can't believe you didn't put our little tear ups in the GOATS. 12 miles and an extra finger on each hand for the muppets to the east.
Hull fan here. Sorta surprised the Humber Derby wasn’t mentioned between us and Grimsby (it’s on our Wikipedia page anyway). Only cause it gave you a chance to put it lower than our Leeds one cause the rivalry is so not serious the last time we played them we played them in 4 30 minute quarters. Meanwhile with Leeds that’s gonna stale cause we do hate them but if you ask Leeds fans about us they say nothing but nice things after the last time we played them and we respected their memorial for the two fans who died in Turkey, kinda like a “yeah we hate you but we’re not gonna be d*ckheads about it” and tbf if your gonna make fun of Leeds it’s better to make fun of them bottling automatics rather than serious stuff.
Don't forget us at Scunny, even if we have sunk into the abyss. The Humber derbies v Hull were always fun when I started going in the late 90s. More of a derby to us than Lincoln, who do get included with us here, which is odd, since they probably hate Grimsby and Mansfield more than us.
@@JohnBall-cd4cg yeah it was more in the 90’s when we were in league two. It’s why I don’t think leeds and Manchester United aren’t rivals bet most of the current Man U fans couldn’t even point to leeds on a map
1. Birmingham vs Villa 2. Wolves vs WBA 3. Birmingham vs Coventry 4. Luton vs Watford 5. Wimbledon vs MK Dons
SOTC
Brum Cov?! nah.
Vizehs forehead lines doubled after Saturday afternoon
A derby that doesn't happen anymore (because Tamworth are shit) is Burton VS Tamworth. Burton vs Derby gets good crowds, and a decent atmosphere, but if we ever play Tamworth again, it will be a bigger occasion. Edit: 1:39 That is, I think a picture of Jackson Irvine celebrating after scoring a header in a 1-0 win against Derby in the championship.
As a Newcastle fan I see this as an absolute win !!!
Man United and Arsenal isn’t a derby, just a rivalry.
The South Wales Derby has petered out recently in terms of incidents and what not. But the fans truly despise each other.
Just been to Brentford v Fulham. I wanted to obliterate my eyes with fire. The ones in Championship were amazing I miss championship
Thanks for the praise. Its not the premier league without Burnley. Hopefully you lot come back up next year. Burnley are a proper club with proper fans. 👍🏻
It's not a huge event for most but means a little to the fans: Wycombe Wanderes Vs Oxford United. Particularly reignited a few years ago when Wycombe defeated Oxford in the league 1 playoff final to be promoted 😂
1: NLD - Always a good game, both are massive teams. 2: Second City - 2nd City, 2nd Derby… 3: Tyne Wear - Big Teams, good history don’t like each other. 4: Dockers - Both have psycho fans… 5: South Coast - That COPA90 video swayed me.
Missed out on aldershot Woking, may not be a big one but it’s a heated one in the national league
Southampton didn’t even know Bournemouth existed until they met in league 1 in 2009
Viz, I love your content man and you've actually put together a very rational tier list here, but... How could you forget about Luton V Watford though? I'll admit that it's not a top tier derby at the moment (The history behind the derby certainly is), but it is, and always will be hated. Despite both sets of supporters being connected by a short journey up and down the M1, they absolutely hate each other, and the derbies that took place in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s lead to some real venomous and violent clashes, on and off the pitch.
How have you missed the Thames valley derby (Oxford v Reading). Happened for the first time in over 15 years this season and was just a stupidly good atmosphere, definitely at least in hated.
Woking FC vs Aldershot Fc went to their derby christmas time 2022 was intense. Cops all over flares thrown on the field everything u could want in a derby. Also broke the record for the highest appearence for a national league game at the time.
Millwall v West Ham is the biggest of all, it's utter chaos
For me the top 5 derbies would be: West Han United Vs Millwall Aston Villa Vs Birmingham City Sheffield United Vs Sheffield Wed Cardiff City Vs Swansea City Blackburn Rovers Vs Burnley Being a Swansea City fan the South Wales Derby means more to me than any game. It really is one of those rear derbies that is based on pure hatred on both sides. I'm also pretty sure it's the only bubble match in the whole of the UK. When we travel to Cardiff we usually arrive a good 2 hours before KO. Where all we can do is enter the stadium and stay on the concourse. I'm 99% sure it's the same for Cardiff fans when they travel down to Swansea.
Yeovil vs Weymouth somebody just about died this year
Finally someone who understands how much the south wales derby means to the fans, get completely overlooked coz it’s Welsh teams
I am an American Liverpool fan but I hate United and Everton I would be a tourist still but I wouldn’t just go there to go there I would thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Not a big derby because its down in the lower leagues and they don't often play each other. However shrewsbury vs Wrexham welsh border derby has a lot of history to it. Both teams are in league one next season...
My top 5 are 1: NLD 2: Tyne and wear 3: Docks 4: Chelsea spurs 5: Pompey Southampton
tbh my favorite is eel classico and derp klassicer, idk how they dont make the list
They're my favourite English derbies too
watching this right after seeing my team win their London derby 5-0 today
Another Chels 👌🏾 Battle lf the Bridge is the biggest one for me because, well it's Tottenham. Another personal derby I have is Chelsea vs Liverpool because my girlfriend supports Liverpool 💀
Vizeh please look into the history of QPR V Brentford derby. Basically in 60's QPR tried buying Brentford and tried to put them out of business as they wanted the clubs to merge under the name QPR. Hence why the derby is hated.
Was that Edie Falco in the thumbnail?
West midlands have the best derbies, BCD, Villa/blues, Coventry v everyone. hell even wolves v villa have been chippy
Charlton only representation is AFC Wimbledon?! Charlton vs Millwall is a meet derby and Charlton vs Crystal Palace

as a sunderland fan i can confirm, leeds vs boro is a bigger derby than sun'land vs boro
We've never played Brighton competitively it just isn't a derby at all, we're close enough that they host there women's games at our stadium but no rivalry. Our biggest rivalry is with Wimbledon, the reason I like our fellow playoff semi final opposition in the form of MK, is because of our mutual dislike of the Wimbledon scum.
You forgot bradford city/leeds utd the two sets of fans detest each other and usually results in many red cards!
Qpr v Chelsea is the definitive west London derby
Steel City Derby is elite 🙌🏾😎
