  • Do this if you want to keep your tub/gasket clean: switch to old-fashioned powder detergent! I got this advice from my knowledgeable appliance sales person. Liquid and pod detergents are sticky (ever get some on your hands?) so they adhere to clothes/dirt. So, it sticks to the gasket and washer tub, too. Powder doesn't. After a robust cleaning, like what Brandon shows here, try the powder. Difference is night-n-day. Clothes are just as clean. We switched to powder for dishwasher, too. Same result. Give powder a shot (while they still sell it!) and you won't regret it!

  • 6:30 Excellent tip for the discolored gasket, I gotta try that. My stacking front loaders save me space in my little apartment, but I look forward to having a top-loading washer again, one day.

    • Back when I was renting a condo (4 years ago) I had a top-loader stacking washer. So, they do exist! But, that might not help you, as you said it was an apartment, so you probably don't own the washer and dryer. Just on the off chance you do own it and want a top loader, I thought I would let you know they do make them. Mine was tiny. I could fit (with the recommended only 2/3rds full per load) a queen sheet set (fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillow cases) in there, not sure how a king sheet set would have done, just to give you an idea of how small they can come. 😅

  • Unfortunately some of the new models no longer have a drain hose. I’ve found the plastic dustpan (from a dustpan and brush set) can be held at an angle under the filter as you unscrew it to catch the water. CAUTION only partially unscrew it, so you can screw it back up when your dustpan is full of water. Empty the dustpan and continue :) I have had success using gel bleach to remove mould from the rubber seal. I soak toilet tissue or a paper towel with the gel bleach and apply it like a poultice to the mould. It should stay in place for several hours as required. As mentioned in the video, the best remedy is to always let the seal dry out before closing the door.

  • When I found out I could take the whole tray out, I was delighted! But the build up within the rubber ring has me disgusted and no matter how many times I tried to clean it, the rubber seems to stay stained. Vinegar can only do so much but I gotta get the bleach out to tackle the mildew. We've made sure to do a clean cycle once a month ever since we got it, so it helps a little with the build up in the ring, but no where near enough to remove the mildew. Didn't know there was anything safe enough to remove mold and mildew in these washers, so thanks for mentioning about a product that could help.

    • @@BadAllergies514 The only reason I have this is because my old Kenmore from loader finally got so loud that my GF was getting scared to be in the same room with it, and Ben's Appliance repair said that this particular problem wasn't worth fixing. This three month old Electrolux popped up for free on Craigslist, because it had been left outdoors to freeze, and was spewing water when reconnected. It was pretty funny. I spoke to the husband, and he said "I need it gone **today**". When I got there, he was still at work, so his wife greeted me. She explained through gritted teeth that they were remodeling their kitchen, and the washer was in the way. So the husband moved it to the patio in the dead of winter. "I told him it would freeze and break, but he wouldn't listen". LOLOL some dysfunction there 😆 About $100 in parts and a couple of days of learning and thinking and I have a like-new Electrolux. But I wouldn't buy another just like this one.

  • Great video. Just one thing ….I hope you didn’t miss the ‘ceiling’ of the space where the soap/powder tray sits. If you look up there, you’ll always find a tonne of black mould that’s always extra difficult to remove thoroughly. I usually use some spray bleach, a toothbrush, then I direct a water spray up there to rinse away as much of it as possible. I do this BEFORE I start the hot cleaning cycle - so that all of the loosened mould on the ‘ceiling’ gets rinsed away when the machine fills with water.

  • My other tip is to take the entire detergent tray out after every use and place it upside down to drain inside the washer drum (make sure the washer door is always left open or ajar). I do this every time, and I never get gunk or build up in there. I also never use fabric softener and only use the minimum of detergent, because these will cause gross build up to form in there 👌

  • How do you wash your microfibre towels from different areas of the home? Do you put them in the washing machine all together e.g. the bathroom/toilet ones, kitchen ones, dusting ones etc? What do you wash them with and on what temperature/cycle? I'm worried about contamination and usually throw bathroom ones out but don't want to keep doing this. I think I'll colour code so I don't use a bathroom one elsewhere even after it's been washed. I love your channel. Thank you!

  • You usually have e excellent advice BUT white vinegar will DRY OUT the rubber in a washing machine and over time it will break it down.

  • I don’t understand how dirty it was! Mine never get like that! Ok, I clean it between every wash to avoid that. Took less than 3 minutes. My children thinks I’m a freak but theirs is gross and smelly! Not mine! I have mine for 15 years now. And my cloths look good, not theirs, look kind of greyish…

    • @@michellemitchell6865 I do to! I recently bought a kind of hook on Amazon that sticks on the washing machine (magnetic) and you twist it how you want so the door doesn’t stay wide open. Before, they were side by side and they were along the wall. Now they are in the center (I add a sink) and the door wide open bother me. With this hook, it doesn’t bother me and still no smell!!!
