I have noticed that the more attention you give to a cat, the less likely it is that she’ll enjoy it, since unlike dogs, cats get annoyed easily. For example when my family got a cat everyone except me was over the moon for her. They wanted to cuddle and play with her, while I just kinda ignored her (I had loads of schoolwork and wasn’t really interested), however exactly because I was so indifferent did she start coming to me. Later she would often fall asleep in my lap while I was watching Netflix. Thus I kinda became her favorite since when she was sick of everyone else in the house, she could simply come to me and find peace. Even when I wasn’t home, my mom would sometimes see her sleep on my bed.
Yep. Our cat is the same way. He would not enjoy being 'forced' to cuddle or loved on. My son was like Chels for at least the first 5 years of him with us. He couldn't get our kitty to want to cuddle. But the cat would always request cuddle from myself and my husband who basically kind of 'ignore' him (not really, we just wait for him to come to us for pets and cuddles).

For me i view it as cats are like girls and dogs are like guys to approach a cat you got to take it slow and not be so creepy around them.
Cats need their space, and safe zones. In this case, this is your room, because no one forces cuddles in there.
All depends on the cat. However that is a very big misconception. Cat actually enjoy attention. Problem is most people do not pay attention to body language. Or end up bugging the animal at wrong time. It really is all about paying attention to your animal. The cats I've owned have been affectionate or highly affectionate. I had a cat who I adopted and didn't even know what interaction was until I slowly started showing her what interaction and affection was all about. Now she bothers me every second she gets to play with her or for belly rubs lol

I can see that. I had two cats--sisters/Calicos--and while they were a little scared of my dad and tolerated both of my parents, they usually spent 24/7 with me and had to be with me no matter what. Unless Ariel was playing hide & seek. 😂🐱🐱

@@beverleyhagaman7344 Watching Bella since they got her, she doesnt seem to hate Chells at all. She didnt have trust for her movements when around her but she seems ok with her. Cats will let you know when they don't want you near them. Bella acts nonchalant when around her. It's better than hearing hissing or being attacked at the ankles, which I've known friends to have those types of cats.

When you pet her, first present your hand (beneath her eye level, not above her head) and allow her to sniff. If she bats at you, accept it and do not intrude on her space at that moment. This will build trust. If she rubs at your hand with her cheek, that would be a strong signal that petting is okay, but still try to avoid making quick movements above her head. Remember that you are a giant, with a hand the size of her head. When you pick her up, let her sniff things in your house that she ordinarily couldn't reach. This will make it interesting for her, not just comforting.

another thing that she's doing wrong she gets scared when or moves her hand away when Bella tries to scratch or bite her which makes Bella think that she's the alpha and that she can do anything to her. So Bella would continue to start scratching or biting her because she thinks she's the alpha.
I was cracking up that “jealousy” worked! A long time ago I had a cat who got mad at me for taking a trip. For about 2 hours after I got home he wouldn’t let me near him. In exasperation, I said, “fine, I’m going for a walk & see if I can find a new cat friend!” Then I walked out the front door. I walked around the block, & when I returned, my mom told me the cat sat staring at the door the whole time. He was VERY affectionate after I returned. Cats get VERY jealous! 🤣🤣🤣

I have a theory regarding Bella and Chelsea, Chelsea's nails could be seen as a threat, "claws out" just an Idea especially as Trev doesn't have long nails.
Maybe, but she also approached two other cats and they were just fine around her. It's not a bad theory, though.

Unfortunately that is just Bella being a cat. Cats are notoriously finicky about who they bond with. She obviously at least somewhat likes Chels or she wouldn’t tolerate her even the small amount that she does and she wouldn’t cuddle with her at night. I think it’s just a matter of her trying to be the Alpha female in the house. Always look forward to SCS episodes and they always deliver. Keep up the good work.
Or simply let the cat decide when to show affection and not you be the boss about it. Cats in differ from dogs do not please you , they make you deserve their love. (this comment is in general , not this particular clip) , Be careful to trust in myths about cats because sadly there are a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to cats.
I think she just doesn’t like the pitch of her voice. Bella seems fine when Chels gets close but her ears start twitching as soon as Chels opens her mouth.
Definitely - I have two elderly (14+) brothers (actual litter mates) I got as kittens, the smaller one (runt of the litter) is way more cautious - even with me at times - than his brother. A friend of mine has come over for years and, for instance, we'll be sitting on the back porch steps... The one will avoid my friend like the plague, even if he wants in he won't come up the stairs until my friend gets up and steps aside... The other will go right past him and even stop for pets. Totally different personalities. I'm usually pretty good with cats, IMHO females are generally more skittish compared to makes, but it really is up to the individual animal. I agree with everyone here though that says you can't force it, the more you try the less they will accept it. If I were to make any suggestion it would be for him to go out for a day (at least several hours) with the boys and leave Bella and Chelsea home alone... That might help, I mean Bella is a relative newcomer into a house of gregarious dogs, it's probably very overstimulating for her, and then when you leave on vacation she's all alone... Or another suggestion - next time they go away with the dogs, have Chelsea "come home" first, alone... He can go on a walk with the dogs for an hour and let Bella have that one-on-one time after being alone for a week....

I think she was expecting a pet at 1:38 and when she didn't get that, she left. But I think she really wants you to just jump right in and pet her right away. Love all your animals. :)
Maybe Bella doesn't like that Chelsea has bigger claws than she does. lol. With all the cats that I have had over the last 30 years, I have come to the conclusion that Bella is just plain weird. I have never had a cat act this way. Love the fact that Chelsea is still trying though. Never give up. Never surrender.

I’m not a cat expert, by any means, but I really think Bella can sense Chelsea’s hesitation. Maybe if you cut Bella’s claws, it will take away a reason for Chels to be scared, and less hesitant. At least until they grow back. If you’re going to pet Bella, just go in and pet her. Don’t go in for a pet and then stop before you get there. It’s like asking “Is this alright?” Don’t give her an option. I think Bella is also not trusting of Chels, which is why she lets Trev pet her more. If you watch the video, Trev doesn’t hesitate when petting her. He just goes in.

Agree. Not only how they look but maybe they also smell a bit funny, could be why she let you per her a bit when you smelled like other cats. I know in my case me one of my cats absolutely hates the smell of my handcream, whenever I reach out to pet her right after using it, she meows and runs away. This does not happen at other times, she is normallythe happiest when I give her any kind of attention.
With the paper ball Bella was "de-feathering" it. Part of her cat prey instinct. One of mine like tiny paper airplanes I throw for him. He tries to catch it and then shreds it. Lol

Serious Idea to try solving the problem: If possible, organize the food schedule so Chelsea is the only one ever feeding Bella - and try to make it clear to her that Chelsea is the one feeding her (i.e. rattle the dry food while Chelsea calls for her: "Bella, it's time to eat!"). Definitely worth a try.

My last cat Tiro was incredibly attached to me, to the point of waiting outside the bathroom and just being on my shoulders all the time at home. If I lay down he'd tuck himself up under my chin and snore away. He always left if we had visitors though. Then one night I had a boy stay over and I woke up to find that Tiro had wedged himself between us in our sleep and kept GLARING at the guy🤣 Tbh I thought it was cute, no idea how he got into the room though

Don’t feel bad chelsea I lived with a cat for 15 years that hated my guts. She would literally come after me for no reason. She wouldn’t even let me walk pass her. The worst part was I was the one the fed her and cleaned her litter box. 😩😫😩😫

Episode idea: Dog seatbelt/harnesses for the boys - could be fun to introduce the dogs and highlights car safety when travelling with animals. At the moment, Cooper and Koda have nothing to stop them becoming dangerous projectiles in a car accident. Even a low speed collision could very dangerous for all of you, as the dogs are both heavy and not being restrained from the backseat would collide with the driver or passenger, which can potentially be lethal to the humans in the car as well. I know it's not a cheerful thought but it might be an interesting episode and all four of you would be safer.

Bella’s gorgeous! Amazing eyes,We’ve spent so much money on cat toys for our two,but the best toy ever is a bit of paper scrunched up.
She feels that you are unsure about her reactions and so Bella doesn't relax. I work often with rescues and it need really time to get trust.Bella loves you , proofs you have it already cause she join you sometimes in the night so it's just a question to build up more trust on both sides. Suggestion i can give: i lure really difficult cats with babyfoods (human ones), try chicken one, just sit near her and do like you are eating it, make her curious and then offer her a bit on your finger. Try to do it when the dogs are buisy with else so that she has your total attention. It is also normal that a cat has her special person in family (Trev for Bella) , but as i said she also loves you as catmom , infact in other videos you showed us she search her food from you too. Good luck and don't give up lol!!!
My wife and I have two cats. The boy is constantly attached to my leg, the girl hides when I come into the room. On the other hand, the boy is indifferent to my wife, and the girl seeks out my wife to sleep on her. I think the biggest mistake is assuming that all cats, and even animals in general, are all the same and that there is just one miracle cure to get one to like you. Maybe she just doesn't like Chels' natural body smells or perfume, or maybe Bella just doesn't feel comfortable around Chels. I know this is all coming from a good place, but maybe trying too hard to get her to like Chels is probably just making her more annoyed. Anyway, good luck. There aren't many better feelings than getting an animal to love you.

I'd say that its because trevor is a male she prefers him, which happens in a lot of cases but speaking from personal experience, I have a female cat who's a rescue and she adores me and only trusts me, she's really loving so I guess they really just take up to one person of the family, they may tolerate others lol
If Chelsea wears perfume or perfumed body lotion, it might just be that Bella does not like the smell. My cats don't like it when my hands smell of lotion.
Yes, that actually crossed my mind as well. Maybe she should try to use Trev's body lotion, shampoo/conditioner and deodorant for a while, just to see if there is a difference? Could be a fun experiment. :)

holding hand over the cat is intimidating, cat's like their space and get the attention at right moments, you need to understand their behavior and not follow book rules
1st touch was paw...most cats don't allow most people. under chin was good, too fast with movements, scritches, that can be overstimulating. It could be hard to slow your energy down, not just movement. Easier said than done especially having been scratched and hissed in the past, but, this may boil down to the difference cat senses. If mind is saying rejection, we get a bit tense or nervous and have hesitant or unsure movement and energy. Kudos for keeping on!

I think in this situation, the cat doesn’t like the long, colorful nails on this woman, that probably smell like a harsh chemical. The woman keeps putting the nails near the cat’s face, which to the cat is like something colorful is being put in front of her eyes, and I think it bothers her.

I have a theory - when Bella was still a kitten, you guys gave her a bath . . . or more precisely, Chels gave her a bath and Bella was freaked out the whole time. That moment must have really spooked her and had her associate Chels with bad things because now whenever Chels approaches her, Bella thinks something bad is going to happen to her. Like a scary bath.

I don't think that's true. My friend has a mean cat that attacks everyone and no one can pet it. One day I was sitting in her house and the cat came and laid down on my lap and just stayed there. Another time I saw a cat outside on a leash and I went and started petting it and it was acting all friendly and raising it's tail and the owner was standing outside and said, "she won't even let me pet her." Me and the female cat I have now are like glue.

When patting a cat it is never a good idea to just go behind their ears, cats normally don't like that. I always make sure they smell my hand for as long as they want before trying to pet them. Don't be afraid of the cat! Cats can feel and don't like it.
