As a scroll saw user I would recommend starting with masking tape over the board before glueing the template on. After cutting the template out you can peel the tape and template off without any residue of problems. No heat gun required.
Thanks again, Steve, for another bright spot in my day. I don't cut the handle off the paint stick. It gives me a place to note the grit, 120, 220, etc.
I think I have a 1x2 scrap - I'm going to make one of these, tonight. If the bears don't get me. Bears have decided we have a nice neighborhood. Hopefully I can deter them with power tool noise. Wish me luck!
After mauling that over, I couldn't bear the thought of working in my shop with wild animals on the loose. What a grizzly sight I would be after barely escaping.
Just do a Tim The Toolman Taylor grunt- might keep an away. Good luck.
Love these videos. Binge watching them all the time.
Thank you for the nice project Steve. I can’t wait to have my high school students try it in the fall after lockdown!
They look fab! Wanted to say a huge thanks from a UK fan for all of your videos so far, been watching for around a year so I haven’t seen everything you’ve put out but I have seen a fair few videos! Also thanks for mentioning 3D modelling so much, my accuracy and designs have improved massively since I design everything properly in sketchup. Looking forward to the next video 🤓
Thanks Steve! Appreciate the free plans and my son loves these kinds of puzzles.
Another great video in this series and a fun project, too! Thanks Steve.
Like your videos and the way you explain things. Keep them coming.
Thanks, Steve. This will make a perfect gift for my grandchildren.
Great video! My kids will love this. Got loads of scrap wood lying around during lock down. Stay safe 👍
Man, i love these puzzle videos! I just finished this one and also did the magical bolt one. It's really helping me get through the town lockdown. It's also helping me use up some of my small scrap pieces of wood that in reality would be otherwise useless
Thank you for the puzzles. Nice break from my other project. I hope you find a few more.
Great tutorial - Those thin sanding sticks are a great tip,
This is so cool. Printing the Templet now. Thanks Steve 😁
Thanks Steve. I delivered this one to my recently turned 9 granddaughter today. She LOVES it! Now a different one for the 11 year old in June.
Great little item for all my small scraps. Thanks Steve
Thank you for another uplifting video, Steve. This looks like a fun project almost anyone can attempt, even with only a jigsaw. I hope you're enjoying making these videos as much as we are watching them, and don't feel obliged to keep up the pace if you feel like a break. I'd like to think what we can do in return. I know some people have sent items to you, is there anything in particular you could do with, woodwork related or not, maybe from our locations that isn't readily available where you are? London, UK, in my case.
it really is easier in metric ! But a super little thing to make using hand tools. Thanks.
Hi Steve, thanks for making these daily videos! I watch them every day with my boys (9, 11 and 13). It's how we keep track of how many days we've been stuck at home. I was wondering if you would be able to talk about a bit about Brad nailers vs. pin nailers. What their intended uses are. As well as cordless vs. compressor. (I'm in the midst of making the writing desk you made so my son has place for books for his online classes. And although I could use clamps, for the banding a nailer would be much easier.) Thanks for getting me in to woodworking! Keep the videos coming! They keep us somewhat sane!
Totally outrageous. I love wood puzzles a lot. I'm making some for sure. Thank you Steve, Totally kool. Jim
Looks like a good birthday gift for my nephew. Keep it up steve!!!
I made the last puzzle and shared it with the family. I have been waiting for this one and will run to the shop and make it. Thank you so much for helping us survive the quarantine in style.
Pretty fantastic little project, Steve! 😃 Thanks a lot!!! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hello steve, thanks a lot for all your videos. Thanks to this tutorial, I made a coffe table (your favorite kind of project) with this joinery to assemble the legs and it looks great!
I was wondering what else to make for a birthday gift and this idea is great. Thank you for sharing, i appreciate it...
This was my school project 19 years ago . Good work
I'm gonna make that! Hi, from New Orleans, Steve. Thank you for sharing.
Brilliant! And what a cool thing to make. Thanks for sharing this, Steve, your vids over the last few weeks in particular have been a most welcome distraction! Cheers :)
Awesome little puzzle! I know today is Monday, but it’s my Friday. Think I’ll make one when I get home!
Hey Steve. Great project.look forward to making these for the kids.. Follow a lot of woodworking channels but always 100% guarantee I'll watch your vids. Best personality in the community 👍
Thank you! This was a great project to do with my family!
Ahh the good old High school wood shop project. I think i still have mine.
Finally the scroll saw getting some recognition!
Ah just in time, I hadn't been keeping up with the lockdown videos when they were first released and had binged them all over the last few days and was starting the get withdrawal :) thanks Steve
Making some and sending them to friends with kids during this shelter-at-home time.
This wood puzzle is easy and interesting to make and play with.
thanks Steve - got back into woodworking recently and made one of these for the fun of it. fit the pieces tight and sanded down the outsides, rounded off the edges and tight when put together. good little 2 hour project for us mere mortals.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.
That's a great idea for a Christmas present.
Thanks for the daily entertainment!!
Thanks for tutorial. I teach a middle school woodshop class and the kids love making these. I have them layout the measurements, so it's a bit challenging, but they love the finished product. You make great videos. I really like how you show all the details and provide a template for this one.
I made like 25 of these as Christmas gifts for my students a few years ago. They were stumped for a while!
Thanks for this and your many other videos.
I'm definitely gonna need more time with my jigsaw before I'm able to make cuts as clean as you demonstrated here!
Just made one! It’s really easy and it’s a pretty cool piece to set on the shelf!
Definitely going to try this one but I'm all for using the bandsaw for c and g and the scroll saw for the o
Awesome Video ! Love The Puzzle !
Very cool my friend. I think i will make a few of those. Thanks for sharing
Very cool little project!
Nice! I make wooden puzzles for a living and the one you came up with is oddly similar to a design I'm finishing now.
Cool puzzle! My father loves puzzle's; so I am going to make this for him.
Thanks Steve I think I'll give this a go on a rainy English day 😄
If you say “Rise Up Lights” it sounds like razor blades in Australian. Thank you for the tutorial. Making these for Xmas gifts.
Keep up the good work Steve!:)
Well- i know what I’m starting for the all nephews and nieces for Xmas! Great lil brain teaser for them. Thx
Steve you're a professional at using the jigsaw! Mine would never have come out that clean!
I don't know if this would help, but I too thought I was pretty rough with a jigsaw.. turns out, all I needed to do was change my blade from the one that came with it (which sucked). Bought an assorted jigsaw blade set and that made all the difference.
Iv made it and its pretty cool. Thanks for the idea.
This looks fun to try with some of my scrap wood
I made a couple of these a long time ago. Great for kids.
That's a fun & cool puzzle, Steve - I have plenty of offcuts that will do nicely, & even tho' my son is now an adult, I'm sure he'll love this one. Stay safe Ramsey family :D
Trick I picked up from one of the wood shows and use all the time now.Is, put masking tape on first and then stick template to it. Peels off nicely
To solve the problem of getting the pattern off the blocks, but a layer of masking tape down first and then use the spray adhesive. Just peels off nicely. Not my idea. I've seen it used countless times before.
YOU ARE A MAGICIAN
I have many other things to do today, but I’m easily distracted. Think I’ll do this instead. Thanks👍🏼
Will enjoy making these first thing tomorrow morning. (Too late now, here in Belgium.)
The walnut really sells it!
Awesome--I just made two for my nephews that I will send in the mail. BTW, it should read "US, Myanmar, and Liberia Measurements" (That's just a bit of metric humour from Canada). Thanks for the print out plans as it saved a lot of time.
I like it, thanks so much!!
Thanks for the inspiration, made mine out of plastic on my CNC (3d-printer) :)
Steve, one thing we do in the scroll saw universe that may translate is blue tape between the template and the stock. makes removal very easy!
Thanks for the video.
There's a similar puzzle but with 6 pieces. My dad liked it so much he made some out of 4"X4"X24" pieces and gave them out as gifts.
Those openings on the COG puzzle would be a snap with a mortising tool. Some are just a bit that works with a drill press. But they also make dedicated stand-alone mortising tools.
Steve Your thoughtful videos are making the coronacation something positive and bearable. Thank you for your invaluable gift
So nice of you. Thanks Dan.
definitely making this
Thanks Steve. I tried to make this puzzle several years ago and gave up. I made the mistake of using oak, making it hard to sand and then it split along the grain. This time I used Poplar. It was much easier. I used a scroll saw with a sharp blade.
Great video! Your video's inspired me to start woodworking and I learned allot of them. I’m still a beginner but I started a youtube channel where I post some of the things I make.
I watched the whole video, I didn't see any bottles, and where were the cogs too, hmmmm.... 😉😆😆😆😆👍 great puzzle Steve. 👏👏👏
awsome video
You could do the cutting with a scroll saw as well, if you don't own a jigsaw (like me...). Tried it on mine and worked perfectly!
Agradeço pelo vídeo. Fiz o meu.
When I need to apply a pattern to wood I apply planters tape on the stock then using spray adhesive to the tape apply the pattern! It is Easy to remove too! Thanks for sharing the pattern Steve! 😁🛫
Well I made the puzzle tonight! Out of red oak! I used a band saw and a scroll saw and lots of sanding to get this square and true to get it to fit together when the sanding started so did the vodka tonics the most dangerous part of the project was finding my way to the shower to get rid of the saw dust🤣🛫
Could you a vertical bike storage rack for shared garage space? Or wall mounted... If not that's ok. Just trying to organize for weekend workshop. Thanks Steve! Keep up the good work!
I learned how to use a jigsaw properly thanks
You can use blue tape before putting on the template and it will come off very easy once you are finished cutting it out.
When this hole thing is over you should do a recap episode to rap it all up and give us viewers some closer on this series
good puzzle
Thank you for this b/c I have this puzzle and couldnt put it back together >>;;; Smooth brain over here....
I made one of these in my high school shop class
If you don't have spray adhesive, I found that a little wood glue made some sturdy sanding sticks. You just have to wait a few hours.
Dangit. Now, I'm going to have to make this.
Superb 🔥
That was cool. I think I can make that by just cutting three 1x2s and using the blocks themselves as the template.
I notice you have the latest Jumanji poster in the background! Not sure if you liked it, but my job was supervising all the Visual Effects!
Thanks Steve This will keep my kids busy while they are locked up at home 😂😂😂👍
Great 👍
Jeez Steve with the razor blade ninja moves... Out of nowhere... "I'm gonna use my razor blade..."
Hey Steve! I saw the coolest thing on Facebook today! You should make a squirl picnic table! Yes, it's actually a thing. They are so funny!
Cover the wood in painter’s tape, and glue the pattern to the tape. Then it peels off easily.
