  • As someone who just switched from iOS to Android over iOS 16 and 17's bugs, the notification system is so so so much better. I can set notifications to silent and still get them, but on my time. Android let's me feel like I'm on control of my phone, instead of my phone being in control of me.

    • You can set notifications to silent and still get them on the Notification Center for iOS. I think most people's complaints about iOS' notification system is people genuinely not trying to set it up at all.

    • @@angeltorres7048 I think I've stopped using iOS at version 12 on the 5s so might not have the latest info but from my experience android 12+'s notification system is really customizable, you can allow only certain notifications for certain apps (like disable post/recommendation notifications and only allow DMs on a social media app) directly in the android settings, you can snooze a whole app's notifications, set them to silent, show notifications on the lock screen without showing their content while still showing content that doesn't contain sensitive data (a timer for example) don't know if the latest iOS has these features so if it does props to apple

  • I switched from Android to iPhone about 6 years ago but recently wondered what it would be like to have an Android again...so....in addition to my iPhone 14 Pro I recently got another phone line and bought the Google Pixel 8 as a spare in case of loss, theft or broken iPhone. Wow. I love it. It's just the size of my 14 Pro and after a 6 year hiatus from Android, I've fallen in love again. The Pixel 8 is speedy, the display is gorgeous and the way you can arrange the icons across the home screens is miles ahead of the iPhone iOS. It's a LOT easier. The only thing that it lacks is a consistent face ID to unlock it. Apple's face ID is miles ahead though in good lighting the Pixel 8 is fairly reliable. The fingerprint way of unlocking on the Pixel 8 is very dependable and works every time. All in all, I love it for a second phone and could even live with it as my primary phone. Great job, Google. You made me love Android again. By the way, I went with the Google Pixel 8 because the Samsung S7 Galaxy edge that was my last Android phone had so much bloatware on it. The Google Pixel is pretty clean!

It's really interesting what part of the 'ecosystem' will trap someone. Also, it seems crazy to me that you just have one of a few phones (relatively) in order to use your basic banking resources. Honestly, it seems like if Google, Amazon, or Meta would do something like that people would be in an absolute uproar about it.

Definitely shows why Apple did things like the Apple Card and savings account and has gone so hard on services. It makes it much harder and more expensive to switch. I noticed you've been using Pixel 8 for videos, and that has made me want to get one since they have looked great. It has been hard not to pull the trigger. I have always liked the pictures, the automation and intelligence has been awesome, now great video. Hard to see what it is missing or could do better.

I'm one of the type of people that switch between ecosystems but I definitely have to say that there are benefits on both sides and he's definitely correct about the app optimizations... Developers are in the game for one reason one reason only and that's to make money and they know that people on the iPhone side will spend more money than people on the Android side so they don't really worry about Android as much

  • But as someone who probably needs to deal with notifications, doesn't the fact that iOS hides notifications bother you? I tried switching to the iPhone several times (better hardware, camera, battery life) but I couldn't get over how my notifications would get hidden. If I received an important notification that I do want to respond to but if I'm busy, I'll leave it for later. Or if I'd have to wait until I get home to get on my computer to send files to someone. But during that time, I may want to do something else on my phone, like send a quick email or create a calendar event or send a text. If I unlock my iPhone to do anything and don't deal with the notification yet, it gets hidden. So I'll have to remember to check notifications later to respond to the ones I wanted to respond to. But often, I'd forget to do that since they were hidden. Sure, I could snooze them, but that's an extra step I don't have to do on Android.

  • For regular users: If you bought a phone several years ago, wether its Apple, Google, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, brand-new old generations -- as long as it does what you need and some wants, I'm sure you'll be pretty satisfied with it. While its fine to listen, don't get mind-controlled. Influencers makes money out of their own thought bias. Always ask the question to yourself, do you really need it? do you have the money for it? If you have "extra" $1000, you have nothing else to spend it for, and you're old phone is broken, go ahead! But if its working fine like that old Samsung S8+, which is still snappy and does what you "need", then its just a plain "want". Have you ever taken a photo and shared to your family, and being question why the color looks like not real? or why the cloud in the picture is blurry? Did they ever asked about resolutions/megapixels? or how big the camera sensor? or what ISO did you use? or is it post-processed? ...On a very rare occasion, there could be (because you are trying to compare the same shot to another device), however most of the time, the conversation is mostly about what's in the photo that you've captured, as well as the memory and emotions recorded in it.

  • Third party app support on android- as much as it may suck, will probably just never happen. Every year Samsung and Google have to talk about how well optimized apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok are on their phones, but Apple never has to because developers will do it for them. Google had to brag about tablet optimization for the pixel tablet, most likely paying a handful of companies that make the most popular apps to optimize them behind the scenes. It’s the sad reality but it’s impossible for Google to get every company to optimize their app for them.

But tendir 2 amd 1 we're competing against the 888 8g1, All of which were fabricated by samsung just like tensor and basically have the same thermal concerns. But even then, these aren't issues. You're going to notice browsing day today or doing anything besides gaming or maybe extremely aggressive use out in the sun. It shouldn't prove in 2025 when Google contracts with TSMC to take over tensor from Samsung. I do always find it amusing on Samsung phones try to dunk on pixels for their silicone and modem, when those are entirely Samsung parts.

  • I have the 8 pro , I agree , the Face ID is hit and miss on the pixels , even the finger print sensor in my usage is hit and miss , weirdly at times it will work 3 or 4 times in a row flawlessly, then the next bunch of times I have to enter the pin because it just refuses to work , dunno what’s going on there , maybe I’ll try entering my finger prints again and see what happens. Nothing comes close to Face ID consistency On the iPhones. The pixel is ok , but there is a fair bit of gimmicky crap on board , most of which I suspect most people will use for the novelty period , then just let cobwebs get on them . I don’t game , but the pixel 8 pro seems to run very well for general duties , and seems fairly snappy in general operation. However , when comparing it to the recent iPhones , even my 12 pro max , on occasion you can see a slight delay on the rare odd occasion when a task is initiated, where the horsepower of the iPhones to just smoothly initiate the task without delay shows , but it’s not a deal breaker and for the most part the pixel is very snappy . My 14 pro max will remain my carry around , the 8 pro will be my second phone , I do like the photo editing software on the pixel and it seems to take comparable pics to my iPhone in general use for happy snaps( IE , they are pretty good), some of the other gimmicky items like the face swapping thing , maybe not so much a fan of , good to have all the same though .

    • You think you get the pixel benefits on other devices but you really don't like? Yes, you do get magic eraser under the subscription of Google photos, but you don't have it to the extent that us pixel users do. Same thing with the Google home and Google Assistant. The Google Assistant is unrivaled with how well it works on a Pixel phone versus other phones, especially with an iPhone because it wants you to use Siri. So it kind of defeats the purpose of using Siri to use Google Assistant. Same thing with Google lens Sure, you can get Google lens on any phone but it works so smooth on the pixel and It's built into our camera. And as far as the Google home, you can use that integration on a pixel to turn your device to do not disturb or turn it off or answer and manage calls, which you can't do one other things.

  • A huge reason I am leaning more towards Pixels now over iOS is quite simple. Each year they keep improving and innovating. Where pretty much the opposite is true of iOS and iPhone. Back when I got my first iPhone which was a 5s in 2016, iPhone was light years ahead of Android and built with quality. Fast forward 7 years and now it's all about money and the quality has diminished greatly to the point I find myself bored with iOS. Don't get me wrong Pixels do have their issues, but this year Google has managed to fix damn near all my issues with their Pixels. I'm on an iPhone 13 now and I am heavily considering switching to a Pixel 8 soon. Because while iOS is reliable I wind up finding the features and setup Pixels offer over iPhone.

Android's notification system, especially if you get tons of emails in different inboxes, feels superior to Apple's. Like the accordion style previews you get on Android notifications - chef's kiss. I think the Apple logic is like, well, go read your emails when it's time to read your emails. That's cute and everything, but not useful. Also the scrollable Google Calendar widget - I mean it's so simple but so good. Little stuff like this adds up.

So you could easily just switch to that bank and their app is pretty standard, not a lot of bells and whistles on iPhone, so can't imagine it being too far behind on Android. I have so many bank accounts and credit cards and the hit to the credit score is like literally one point when they run a check. So it's truly negligible. • The special editing tools that require being uploaded to the cloud is google’s backhanded tricky way of double dipping into both Apple’s way of doing things and their own. If you not only have to upload a photo to the cloud to edit it but then start relying on it for every photo cause it’s tedious to just upload single photos, you are now in google’s tricky backhanded sales pitch to get you to purchase a google one subscription. That way, they get to play the hero that’s “offering more base storage than apple for free”. Meanwhile, they sneak in that sales pitch for google one so now google is making money off hardware and cloud storage just like apple. The thing is, that means that any sort of use the SOC has for on device processing isn’t even considered or utilized. I don’t even have any clever analogy or joke to go with that. It’s just utterly pointless for these phones to have A: the kind of price point they target and B: the amount of money spent on not only r&d but on just the very concept of custom silicon. I guess ultimately, if you’re sticking with a pixel, it’s not that bad but it just seems like dirty business to me. Don’t get me wrong, Apple basically forcing every user to use iCloud to even backup the most basic iPhone user is just flat out wrong but Google isn’t much better. Especially considering that their price points will start to creep up over time like how KZhead premium has.

  • I've left Apple, and it didn't take a Pixel 8 to do it. I'm currently using a $50 Xiaomi phone, and its been fine for what I use my phone for. iOS 17 has been a shoddy mess and a disappointment, and on the Mac side I realized I've been using a Windows gaming laptop just fine for almost two years while I wait for Apple to make a Mac that feels like exactly what I need at a price that's comfortable...and then I came to the realization that they probably just aren't going to do that. My two year old Asus G15 does everything I need it to do, has more ports, has a 1440p screen, and an RTX 3070 so I can actually play games on it, and it was $1100. Apple has crawled up their own ass and is in real danger of suffocating up there. It's to the point where I'm willing to just give up my Apple Card and Watch to get out of Apple's "eCoSyStEm".

  • Funny, for me the best part of switching to my Samsung was the software. Can't access an old Angry Birds that I'm feeling nostalgic for, because the devs delisted it? Sideload it, now I have it. Can't listen to my KZhead music playlist in the background without Premium? Sideload an app designed to solve that problem. Want to play a game that I have on my old Wii at home, on the go? Sideload an emulator. What iPhone does, it does well. But there have been so many things over the years that I wanted my iPhone to do that it just couldn't. Oh yeah also my new phone can unfold into a tablet, which is a feature I can't get on an iPhone. That's cool too. Cool as that feature is though, it's nothing compared to the sideloading and customization. And the sales and secondhand prices - I got an ecosystem that retailed for a total of $2710 new, for $775. Used Z Fold 4, refurbished Galaxy Watch 4 classic, used S Pen and case, new Galaxy Buds 2. The closest Apple equivalent would be an iPhone 14, iPad Mini 6, Apple Pencil 2, Apple Watch 7 44mm, AirPods 2 - I'd be looking at around $1300 to get all that in the same condition I bought the Samsung equivalents.

    • @teamflowerninja I actually really like the narrow screen on my closed Z Fold. It makes it really easy to type one- handed, or if i'm wanting to type two- handed I just open it up. One thing the OnePlus Open has going for it with that aspect ratio, though - if your inner screen ever breaks, you have a perfectly normal, fully functional phone still. Whereas the Z Fold's tall and narrow outer screen is designed as a compliment to the main event, not meant to stand on its own. It'll do in a pinch, and it excels at one handed use, but it's incredibly cramped for anything I would want to use two hands for, mitigated by the fact I can just unfold it.

I do all of my banking with Chase and they have an outstanding app, awesome customer service, and ATMs and branches all throughout Southern California where I live. I despise Apple's walled garden approach and am seriously concerned about placing all my eggs in one basket. Giving Apple that much control over my life is a step too far for me. They're a hardware and software company first, not a bank like Chase, Wells Fargo, BofA, etc. I owned a Google Pixel 3 and 4 and absolutely loved the software and experience using my phone. In my experience, I found that I spent less time on my phone and would accomplish tasks much quicker than I would on my iPhone. Sending messages and writing messages is primarily what I do on my phone, and it was all made simpler with the quality of the dictation/transcription that Google Assistant offers. Also, I'm not sure what it is, but something about my iPhone makes me want to waste more time on things like social media where as that wasn't the case on my Google Pixels. Ultimately, I think that Google's approach the last few years has been spot on and if they figure a way around the iMessage objection that Apple users give to switching, they will rake in the $$ as Apple has been horribly negligent with Siri.
