"One of the seven Dudley sins" 🤣
‘I need to know everything! How else can I judge whether or not I need to know it?’ Another iconic line that sums up Sir Humphrey perfectly.
5:12 Humpy: 'how sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless cabinet colleague.' PM: 'it's envy, you know. Dudley is consumed with envy.' Bernard: 'it's one of the seven dudley sins.' Bernard did it again. he just killed me with his remarks from the sidelines. 😂
"thankless cabinet colleague" I think
The Chief Whip is the German Chancellor Olaf Sholz !! 😂
wow
"Isn't his plan good for the country?" "That is hardly the point!"
When asked why he didn't sack JEdgar Hoover, LBJ said he'd rather have the man inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in.
Same reason why Theresa May made Boris Johnson foreign secretary. See how that turned out.
I adore Bernard's irregular verbs!
Wonderful wordplay, great comedy timing and always pure bliss to watch. People will be enjoying YPM for decades more.
The chief whip in YPM is much weaker than chief whip in YM. Yes Minister Chief whip is much more ferocious and scary and actually understand politics much more
Understand politics maybe, but he's more ferocious when talking to a minister, here he's talking to the PM.
@gchecosse that's certainly one explanation. It could just be that the whip reflects the PM they serve given how weak Hacker can ... given how efficient Hacker is at understanding the rationale of the Civil Service.
How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child. Is from King Lear Act 1, Scene 4.
Marvelous
Humpy goes to all this trouble to frame the employment secretary, but ends up losing because he never thinks the prime minster actually likes the plan
The ship of government is the only ship that leaks from the top... if I conjugated that irregular verb correctly
I stopped for lunch recently at Berwick-upon-Tweed and it seems a very pleasant place. Perhaps not the best for an ambitious private secretary, but Bernard could do a lot worse.
Even after all these years, these scripts are still brilliant.
Seven Dudley sins - brilliant!
6:00 one of my favorites moments in the show
Some of the best writing ever "leaked" to the public.
bernard seems to think he can play with the big boys 😂
Maybe not as a manipulator of events, but his quick one-liners are enough to score him bonus points.
The Chief Whip in the scene between 3:43 and 4:10 made me laugh out loud. 😄
I wonder how many times this same scene happenned in Downing Street
Yes Minister was a brilliant show.
Fun Fact: Co-creator Jonathan Lynn directed Nuns on the Run, The Whole Nine Yards, My Cousin Vinnie and Clue
The look Hacker sometimes gives Bernard would turn lava to ice.
Nothing beats this serie, brit cynical and so dead right when it comes to ”democracy” 😂😂😂 Thats why us swedes just love you, despite the stinking beer however an irish stout might pass😂😂
So funny. Hacker is a bit dim, but he and Humphrey have been in politics long enough to know certain truths about politics. And Bernard is still rather innocent.
Yeah but that's the joke: these people are so well educated and mature, yet discordinated and apart from Bernard they're duplicitous, concieted and cowardly to the point of comical.
How true this could be in 2023!!! 🤣🤣🤣
No. Back then, top politicians may have schemed and played organisational snakes and ladders, but they weren't vindictive and malicious against the whole country and the rest of the world. This sitcom was followed by The New Statesman, which portrayed the sleazy backbench fringe. From Johnson was Alan B'Stard for real and moved from backbenches to Number 10 to appoint his cronies and eradicate Hacker, Major, even Thatcher. The Thick of It reflected aspects of Blair-Brown and shenanigans within the Labour party but still not rampant devil-take-the-hindmost and kick those who hesitate in the shins
@anreashaynes. I wish it were.
We didn't know what we were watching, did we !?
Classic Bernard
Worse still in real life the of the last deputy whips was only in the because he lied about his extra activities....he could have been in a plot....this is just so true....it's too funny. 😂 Around this time, in real world, there were plots against Thatcher, they won in the end, like with Boris. 😁 Love Sir Humphrey's Shakespeare misquote. 😁
Clever lines Brilliantly delivered
Bernard's irregular verbs appeared more than once - to good a gag not to recycle.
Best series ever!
When I learned what it means by playing the man not the ball outside of football.
I vaguely remember this!! LOL!!
If only the bbc was capable of producing comedy like this now.
Oh I don't know, they reported on Liz Truss' time in No.10 pretty accurately.
Thank god for the Tories who continue to produce comedy.
Irregular verbs are the best
Seven dudley sins LOL
I HAVE BEEN ARESTED 20 TIMES WITH HANDCUFFS
Perfect eight minutes
The whole country is run for the conveniences of the few.
Crazy funny dialog . The Chief Vip playing priceless funny.
7:08 ministry of defence
😂😊😊😊😊😊
I know what's going on.Thanks.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so true.
2024 still relevant, still a sharp look into politics.
There is a reason the brits ruled half of the world…. however the rest of the world have stepped up to close the gap😂😂😑
"the rest of the world have stepped up to close the gap" Indeed: it was a HUGE mistake on our part to educate the natives! And what gratitude do they ever show?
A Cabinet Plot Against the PM! | Yes, Prime Minister | BBC Comedy Greats 2038pm 9.7.23 even i enjoyed this in it's day.... socially aware, y'see... at such a young age. the seven Dudley sins was ok... dunnno why they all feel they have to enjoy the same thing...
Did brandon and his buffoons write this? No no, it's far far too clever.😅😅😅
says a poster called wally.
Is this a documentary about our current government .
The wokies would shut this down now
What on Earth for it’s white men being “corrupt” and making a fool of themselves they’d just add a good womanly heroine or such and it’d be right up their alley?
🤡🤡🤡Wtf do you find objectionable about this video? Anti-woke is the new woke.
The whole country is run for the conveniences of the few.
You sound surprised?
