Roglic is most likely the best GT riders to never win a TDF. Heaps of people say WVA is a better cyclist than Roglic and I don’t see how that’s true. Results-wise Roglic blows WVA out of the water. They have both won one monument each. WVA is a monster at the TDF however he seems to be on a skid. You can’t compare them, yes WVA is a better one day cyclist than Roglic however Roglic is a better stage race cyclist than WVA. One is a one day specialist and the other is a GT specialist.

Now he also has a pretty bad crash to deal with which requires surgery. A lot of people love WVA but is he really as good as people make out? I don’t think so, he’s just really loved. He’s only won one monument. His results at the tour are super impressive but thats it. I’m not saying he’s bad but I just don’t think he’s as good as people make out and I don’t think people realise that his palmares isn’t that great compared to others.

  • 19:50 The question is how tired Vingegaard will be. If Vingegaard is near his best, Roglic has no chance to win the Vuelta. At least Roglic must have been pleased to see Vingegaard avenge the Planche des Belles Filles time trial by crushing Pogacar even worse in this Tour's time trial.

    @Sakkura1@Sakkura110 ай бұрын
    • Good chance he will be tired. Not many managed to win multiple of the Big three in 1 calendar year, let alone win win back to back. Time between the two is relatively short, usually not enouygh to fully recuperate from the previous one. Winning a Giro, then a Vuelta is more "doable" I guess.

  • I think you're being a bit harsh on Roglic for crashes, while yes they have been a significant problem costing him 2021's Paris Nice and 2019's Giro most notably, his crashes in the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Tour De France were not his fault. 2021 had the now infamous 1st week with 3 Jumbo Visma riders dnf'ing, beginning with the stage 1 "Allez opi omi" sign crash that caught Jumbo Visma at the head of the peloton, and then further incidents that plagued the first week of the tour with terribly designed final sections resulting in many riders going down and Roglic dnf'ing after loosing significant time at the first mountain stage dropping nearly 20 mins. 2022 also was a pretty chaotic first week of the tour with some pretty terrible crashes, not as bad overall as 2021, but for Roglic on stage 6 he'd clip a hay bale positioned horrendously close to the track, and in a technical chicane. He would finish the stage dropping some time, but he dislocated his shoulder at this time, and later would be found to have possibly fractured 2 vertebrae. The fact that he didn't immediately dnf from the tour was impressive, and his heroics in stage 11 absolutely slaughtering Pogacar and UAE in route to securing Vingegaard the initial lead on gc that would only extend with some amazing efforts from Wout played a pivotal role in Pogacar winning the TDF. His winning of the GIro this year proved that he is still a force to contend with and gives him a poetic final major win to his career. I don't think that he will ever win the TDF, that window has come and gone, Vingegaard is simply an alien and a close second to Pogacar, and with him in Jumbo Visma, I can't see Roglic getting another shot at GC as well in the TDF, he's pretty loyal to Jumbo Visma so I think hes gonna run out the rest of his career with them, but given how close this last Giro was, and the fact that his competition wasn't quite the level as the TDF this year (Geraint Thomas, Joao Alemeida, Thibaut Pinot rounding out the gc at the Giro with Remco Evanepoel retiring from the race with covid19 while still in the maglia rosa at the time with quite the lead) I'd doubt that we will be graced with a Roglic win at the TDF. That being said, I hope to god that TJV decide that 2024 is going to be another wierd dual GC TDF and have Roglic Ride as the GC along with Vingegaard, and task Sepp Kuss with the lead GC mantle at the other world tours, maybe even Wout at those, as he'd definitely be a solid option. Although realistically Vingegaard is just the way to go, hes younger, is the defending TDF champ, currently leading the GC and doesn't have the same volitility as Roglic. I say all of this as a massive Roglic Fan and TJV fan, I've been a big fan of Roglic for a while, and have thoroughly enjoyed watching him and cheered him whenever he races, I'd love to see him win the Tour, it would be a fitting achievement that would cement him in legacy as one of the greatest and most unlikely stories in all of cycling history. However I don't think that he even needs to do this to be remembered as an all time great. He 100% has a few more stage race gc's in his bag, and I'm excited to see him at this year's Vuelta, the absolutely heinous course that they have devised for this years rendition will definitely suit him and the fact it has team time trial will always benefit TJV as they have arguably the most stacked lineup of any world tour team. It might be fireworks at the vuelta, or it could be a cake walk for roglic but either way hes going down in history as an all time great with or without a GC win at the Tour.

Howeve,r it may have been true for his skijumping crash, but there is a different reason for the ones in his cycling years. Lack of experience. Riding in a peloton and positioning there during long races, is a skill u learn over many years, most riders who make it to pros do this since their (early) youth, him coming in so late at 21 means he hasn't, and it caused most of his crashes whilst in the peloton. And whiel fearlessness may have played a part in some of his other crashes, many can be explained by lack of steering ability and knowing how to go around corners at fast pace, something u need to learn over many years too.

Giving only the riders ranked ahead of Primoz on both sites he's currently behind Girardengo, Bitossi, Poulidor, Binda, Zabel, Rominger, Sagan, Maertens, Saronni, Jalabert, van Looy, Valverde, de Vlaeminck, Moser and Kelly amongst riders not to have won a Tour de France. Saronni, Zabel, Maertens and Sagan (and arguably van Looy and de Vlaeminck) could never think of winning a Tour de France. • The thing is he has always been the second best or the 3rd best. I think there is definitely others that should be considered the best to never to win. Hes just the best not to win in the last 5-10 years. He is going for the second most contested races in the giro and vuelta. And thats where the second or third best wins. As you cannot do either if you do tdf. The schedule is too tight to recover. So hes a very good and elite rider but he lacks that last umpf to be the best. But also in giro and vuelta I dont see him beating Remco - except when he pulls out of the race as in the giro this year.

    • Perhaps went into the '83 tour as favourite with Hinault absent and led into the mountains but heat and climbs proved too much, finishing 7th behind the debut winner Fignon. Three more top tens in the '80s followed (never better than 4th in '85) with crashes ruining any chances from '86 to '88. Too talented to miss the classics and required by sponsors to ride every race in Spain, France was always ridden at the end of months of frenetic activity.
