    • My father's too, he would be singing along. He joined up in December 1939, turned down the offer of a commission and did the grand tour of East Africa, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and ended the war in Hamburg where he was demobbed in February 1946. He never felt blind hatred for Italians and Germans and certainly didn't considered himself a hero, I only found out that he had a box full of medals (still in their wrapping) when he went into hospital for the last time.

Anyways, my goofy father carried an accordion, through world war 2, with captured German prisoners , and played on the accordion, lili Marleen> Me, Army, stationed in Germany, had to go to Desert Storm. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU MEIN DEUTCH FRIENDS. You offered help, gifts to our soldiers there, free repairs to family cars. Anyways, do I know and Love the German people for their kindness to me, as a soldier. I found my wife in the States. Our wedding song, our song will always be Lilli Marlene

    • This was the closing song of the Afrika Corps before the radio went off. The Brits liked it and found an English version to listen to. Dietrich later did it while in America although t it was not her original song.

  • Lors d'un jumelage entre un village Allemand et un village Français dans les années 1960 je faisais partie d'un petit orchestre. J'ai vu les habitants du village Allemand monter sur les tables et chanter cette chanson lorsque les musiciens Français l'ont entonné. Un grand moment d'émotion partagée car nous connaissions tous cette chanson.!!

    • @@ralfforner3606 It's OK. The UK Army also sung this song during WW2, but using English lyrics. In the 1950s it was sometimes on BBC radio, but with English lyrics. Another song that was sometimes on the BBC radio in the 1950s was 'O Mein Papa' but sung in German. And 'The Happy Wanderer' sung by the Oberkirken Childrens Choir.

  • I remember this song from Marlene Dietrich and Layle Anderson both. Marlene's versions are both in English and German Layle's is in English. Gives me goose bumps just listening to it. It was my Mothers favorite song. During the war it was a beloved song for both sides .

Noto con piacere che la seconda strofa, quella che comincia con Schon rif der posten, la quale, non so perchè, viene omessa in tutte, dico tutte, le riproduzioni di Lili Marleen, tranne in quelle del1938 e del 1942, è stata cantata. Era la terza del testo integrale di 5 strofe Complimenti! Mi auguro che da ora in poi questa meravigliosa canzone sia riprodotta sempre nella sua versione integrale!
