The only two nymphs are literally the only twonymphs i can use with confidence everywhere i go. One or the other have caught me fish in all rivers i have fly fished.
In the video i will tie both.... But, more importantly i will explain why i need only two patterns and how to get the best out of them.
Of course, i don't fish them all the time cause it would be boring and i don't believe these are the only two nymphs, one can have his own pair of nymphs.
I hope you will like and enjoy this video.
Stay in safe,
Vladimir
Can’t remember exactly how you said it,but I really chuckled. Don’t use to big of clump of guard hairs and try to make a dry with a tungsten bead. Thanks for the tying lesson.
glad you enjoyed it :) i honestly dont remember it anymore, it was a while ago :)
Very nice and clear presentation. After over 20 years of Euro nymph fishing, I totally agree with you about everything that you have said! Hailing from Southern Italy! Douglas
Thank you so much. Glad you like it. Cheers from Serbian guy in China 😀
Thanks again Vladimir for the great instruction. I have been tying for years but I learn something new with each of your videos.
Thanks Gary. Glad to hear that. I think thats why i love this so much.... Its never ending learning 😀😀🍺
Really, really helpful video Vladimir! love your channel!...I appreciate your hard work and you sharing your experience/s and knowledge...glad I found you...thank you very much

Excellent video, steps, description and reasoning, thank you!
Thank you for your kind words 😀🍺🍺🍺
Great looking flies I love the guard hair hackle. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot. Guard hairs are excellent as dry fly hackle too. 🍺
Tha k you so much for explaining the reasoning for what you’re doing here. It’s one thing to watch how to tie the fly, it’s a whole different thing to understand the ‘why’ of it and how to fish it. Great video.
Thank you for watching my video. And thank you for your comment. I will do the same in the future.
Great video! Information was great and your flies look great! Thank you!
Thanks so much. Glad it was useful for you. Cheers 🍻😀😀
Really like all your stuff. Thanks for taking the time.
thanks for watching it. I really appreciate your comment and time spent watching. I may make longer videos...(still feel i dont say everything)
I’ve tied your hares ear pattern and it has worked great for me the last couple weeks here in Colorado. It’s a go to fly for me. Thanks again!
Thank you for your comment.... Sorry for the late reply. Glad "my" flies work across the globe 😀😀
Awesome video. Love your content very helpful for new fly tiers like myself. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Thanks a ton. Glad its helpful for you. Hope you will enjoy other videos too. Cheers Vladimir
Another top class tying lesson, lots of good advice in there , keep them coming your the man Cheers

Excellent tutorial Oholi! As always thank you for sharing🔥
Thanks mate. Glad you like it. Thanks for watching it. 🍺🍺😀
Hairs ear is a super smooth pattern, I like the collar with hairs ear. I can see how that pattern can be effective. Thanks for the tutorial
thank you so much for watching. Tight lines Vladimir
Vladimir another awesome video I look forward to tying these flies!!
Thanks so much. For hares ear use cdc for legs. Moves better 🍺🍺
Now that's a brilliant insight. More bulk and less hydrodynamic = better anchor. Awesome! I only ever considered the sink rate, but this makes a lot of sense. 👍🤟
For some places it is useful. You can also add densely wrapped genetic hackle. Make a parachute effect.
Another great video. Thanks
Thanks for watching 🍻🍻
Excellent video, amazing flies, can't wait to try them, thank you🙏
Thanks. You will love those. Just make sure you have sizes and weights covered 🍺
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Thank you, I'll do that!
Thanks a lot bro 👏👏👏👏👏 Beautifull flies 👍
Thanks for being here and watching. Glad you like it 🍻🍻

Great ideas!
Thanks a lot. Cheers 🍺🍺
GREAT VIDEO.! Especially that hares ear..! I walked immediately to my tyers bench and made three of them!
Thanks. Hahah glad it inspired you. Now hit the water as soon as possible 🍺🍺
It's really nice that you give the details of how you fish the flies and the difference a material can make. I'm just now starting in tying and fishing for trout. I'm crash studying how they feed, biology, behavior.. It's great to get both lessons at same time.. I still have to practice casting but enjoying the tying as much as fishing. Trout fishing in Arkansas is 4 hours away. Thanks
I saw you comment again and realised there's no my reply.... I thought i did reply... Anyway, glad you like it. I am happy i could help a bit. 😀 Good thing about fly fishing and tying is that learning never stops.... So enjoy the ride 🍻🍻
I've used this pattern for a number of years now, it is my number 1 go to fly, absolute producer, that's a fabulous tie.
Thanks so much. Keep safe Vladimir 🍻🍻
1st time visit, I'm impressed, just subscribed, regards from Wales.
Thank you so much. You are too kind 😀🍺
Loved the video. These 2 are in my "go to" box always with a few others. Gonna have to try some with the spun hairs mask, I like it's bugginess.
Thanks a lot my friend. Hares mask is good.... But instead.... Mix partridge and cdc. Or just cdc.... I think its better. This, i do as an anchor fly for shallow....
Really really good video! Love your channel! I appreciate your hard work your channel is awesome. I’m glad I just found you
Thanks for your kind words. Really appreciate it. Glad you like it and I hope i won't disappoint in the future 🍺🍺

A very instructive video and great patterns. Last trip I only fished your flies and hooked 12, landed 9 from 1LB to 5LB with 2 /4LB fish. 1 brown and 8 rainbows. I make 12 flies of each pattern and give 2 to my fishing buddy. Much appreciated down-under in NZ.
Thanks😀😀. Wish i could fish a place like yours. Sounds heavenly 🍺🍺
Nice flies and very good presentation. I agree with your comments toward the end as well. They match with what I learned over 30+ years of nymphing. I nymph almost exclusively in Colorado and Montana. When fishing in Montana I mostly use size 14 to size 16 flies. In Colorado, I use size 20 to 26 flies--even some size 28 flies. Weight putty on the leader sinks the flies to the appropriate depth.
Thanks a lot. Wow, Colorado soundsike a place with very difficult fish. I wish o could go there. Love difficult fish. 😀😀
@@Oholisfliesandfishing I always fish Montana in the Summer. I'm sure that smaller flies ( midges ) would also work there in the Winter. I fished the Eagle River in August in Colorado. Tricos were plentiful in sizes 24 and 26 and fish responded enthusiastically to imitations.
@@schmoonkie i am sure in winter small works too. It's more common in winter to have small insects and bigger ones in warmer seasons..
Great video, thx a lot.
Thanks for watching it. 🥃🥃Cheers
I completely agree, my go to nymphs are basically exactly the same!
I think there are many more like us. But we all tie many patterns for fun and i guess hope to make better flies 😀
Thanks you make it all look so easy
Thank you for watching it. After some practice it is easy you will see 🍻🍻
Thanks Vladimir, excellent! I take a very similar approach with my nymph box but with 3 patterns instead of 2, I tie for a variety of weights but also sink rates - so I tie a tassie devil (pink bead with CDC hackle , very similar to your hares ear), a frenchie (similar to pheasant tail) and also a perdigon for a fast sinking option, all in multiple weights in sizes 14 and 16. As you said, it is really nice to have the option of having weight but not fast sinking, especially as I usually fish just a single nymph, so I find myself fishing the tassie devil most often out of the 3 patterns. :)
Thanks a lot. Oh, tassie sounds like hares ear i am using... With flashback foil and metallic pink bead... It slays 😀😀
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Nice! Yes the tassie devil I tie just has a metallic pink bead, orange tag tail, ribbed hares ear body and cdc hackle. It's deadly!
@@PeachyFlyFishing sounds like a winner. I forgot to say, third nymph would be some dark one with peacock body.... Prince variation.... And perdigons are always around.... 🍻😉
I use mop flies. Pro fly tyers hate them because they are easy to tie and work.
I agree with your approach. Love the Tassie Devil. close to a Pink Squirrel.
Great tutorial on these flies Vladimir. I’m so pleased my favourite (the pheasant tail) was yours too 😊. ps..... the ‘lost’ list is too long and I’ll probably not be able to catch up! ☹️. No worries, I’ll just do what I can. Keep ‘em coming dude.

Thanks. They both are. 😀😀🍺
Thanks nice flies I will use both
Thanks for watching. I am into both too. If i had to choose one fly it would be the pheasant tail
I like the video you gave me a lot of tips thank you
Glad to hear that. Thank you so much 😃🍺🍺🍺
Hi Sir. Glad to see your nymphs. Would appreciate to tie them, together with other patterns you would have at a competitive prices per dozen,or any other ways of packing.
Not sure are you offering flies to buy? If so, i am not buying 🍻🍻
Liked the way you tilted the vice to put on the dubbing. Keeps the hook out of the way. Nice.
Thank you. I agree, its usually small details that make tying easier. Cheers 😃🍺
Lovely simple patterns. I've decided I only need two or three types of nymphs ever. I still tie variations for fun. bu t honestly, a pheasant tail and hares ear or variants are all I really need. I always enjoy your advice and patterns. :-)
Glad to hear more people are thinking in this simplistic way... I like to have box/es filled with these flies in various weights... Empty spaces are experimental flies.... Product of boredom or something else.. But when all fails. I go back to my two best flies... 😀😀🍺
Your vice looks like a shark! Great video. Thanks 😊
Thanks so much. Vise is renzetti traveler... Amazing vise for ok money.
Lovely fly. A couple of questions if I may, what's your thorax made out of and what size bead are you using ? Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot. Hackle is hares fur, or peacock color ice dub. Beads purely depend on the flow and little less on the hook. Take a lool here 🍺🍺 kzhead.info/sun/nbBqYsxqaJOid2g/bejne.html

😂😂😂 I like your comment. I suppose you think i am Russian, because od my name? 😀😀😀
Any chance you can do a tutorial on the tool you started using at the 15 minute mark? A how to use video? Thanks and Great Channel!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Sure i can. Its called dubbing twister. If you are not into waiting for me just look it up on YT... But, regardless i will make a video. Its good idea. Thank you Cheers
Great Flies! Would you post the materials needed for each fly pattern? I'm a beginner. Thanks
Thanks. I made a video long ago. I am sure that i explained msterials during the video. But, basically, pheasant tail barbs, hare's fur and some dubbing in peacock color. However, use anything available, dont bother with exact materials. Though, these are very easy to get
Another superb video , thanks , I would very much agree that these 2 patterns are a must , I tie the PTN in 16/18 using a orange or pink collar tungsten against the bead from Bogan Gawlik which buts up against the bead and provides hot spot and weight , ie double tungsten have you considered this ?
Actually i did it, check out my videos plumpy perdigon and Anvile Pheasant Tail Nymph. First one has more than double tungsten 😉
@@Oholisfliesandfishingplumpy perdigon
@@jeffbody5986 yes... kzhead.info/sun/dZePcZtvfaiYiZ8/bejne.html
Great video and nice looking Nymphs, though a materials list would be nice for us novice tiers.
I think i said it along, while tying.... If i failed to do it its pheasant tail, wire, ice dub peacock and orange thread for the first nymph... Coq de leon, Squirrel dubbing mix( i have a video how to make it), wire and hares guard hair from the mask for legs... This is for second one... I have to be honest, its me being a lazy guy, but i should definitively start listing materials.... Ps: piece of advice, even if u dont have materials, just use what you have.... Dont follow recipes always.... 🍻🍻
Hey, glad to hear you find it useful. I had a feeling that just tying is not enough.... Some flies better fish if tied and fished properly. I agree with you, tying is as fun... As for casting.... Find someone to teach you proper way. It's hard to correct bad habits. I am still correcting myself after more than 20yrs.... 😀😀
Fantastic video. Many thanks. Now, did I miss the brand and model of hooks that you use (and of beads)? If not, could you tell me what your preferred hooks are these days?
Thanks a lot Alex, i use chinese hooks. They are exactly the same shape and size as dohiku jig hooks. Beads are also from china. I also buy them here (hooks and beads) and sell them with a friend on balkan. My all time favorites are tiemco hooks. But to be honest i use all i can get. And nowdays you almost cant go wrong with hooks. 🍻

Thanks a lot. I used to, but now since i got baby i dont. And shipping them from china became ridiculously expensive and slow.. Doesnt make much sense unfortunately. But, if you do need good flies i know who can do it. And quality is great too. Cheers Vladimir
Thank you for sharing your expertise ! You’re a great teacher . I noticed that a lot of your flies do not have much of a tapered body, yet, obviously , they are highly effective ! Just how critical is a tapered body on flies ? Thanks again!
Thanks for your very kind words. I dont believe that taper is so important I do make slight taper. Nothing extreme. Just to make it prettier

Thanks so much No idea about the name of tool. I got it in a set from india. But its over 20years old. 😀
I love this version of hairs ear it looks great.
Thanks so much Try it with cdc collar for slower waters
When I grew up fishing and tying, all my mentors were purists like A. K. Best, bead heads were pretty much considered lure fishing, an ‘attractor’ pattern…..guess I kind of still feel that way.
I can see why. Thats a legit opinion and attitude. I love unweighted nymphs because it means i use them usually for sight fishing and thats top level for me. Nothing can beat catching fish and seeing it all 😀🍺
What kind of dubbing is that? Also, what color CDC would you use on the hare’s ear? Thanks.
This is the dubbing, i thought video will tell you more 😀 kzhead.info/sun/n5htdph9maB6d4U/bejne.html As for cdc, you can never go wrong with natural. Dark gray is perfect match.
What dubbing did you use for the collar? Thanks.
On phaesant tail its peacock ice dub. Chinese brand, royal sissi. On hares ear its leftover underfur from guard hairs. Cheers 🍺🍺
Great way to collar that fly 🪰 looks fishy thanks for explaining so well.
Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Glad i could be of help 🍺🍺😀
What type of nymph would you use in slower water where trout get a good look at the fly compared to faster water? Thanks.
For faster.... As long as you can get it to where trout is it will probably be eaten ... In slower water something lighter with perhaps cdc for movement... Lighter nymph drifts more naturally..
What name are doze flies called
Pheasant tail and hare's ear variations
How big are the hooks?
Thanks. Both are 14. But these flies i make in range of sizes... 18 to 10... With most sizes in 2 different weights.
Did you ever say the size of hook?
Probably not. These are both generic flies. So you can tie those anywhere from smallest hooks to largest. Depending on size of insects in your rivers. But in general, smaller ones usually work best. Cheers
why did you use a smaller bead on hairs ear, I'm trying to understand the reasoning
I always make flies i will use. So bead size matches places i will fish. Both of these flies should be made in various sizes and weight.
🦈🧪💪🏾👌🏾 TOP VLADI
Thanks a ton. Glad you like it. Thank you for being on my channel. 🍺🍺
hook size and beads ? Thanks :)
haven't understood yet the advantage of a slotted bead
Hook size goes from 18 to 10 Beads from 2mm to 4mm depending on water speed and depth. Slotted beads are perfect for jig hooks. Plus they fit ok on all other hooks. On the other hand, classic beads fit all except jig hook. And jigs are most common i guess..
@@Oholisfliesandfishing thanks a lot! I love the beads of the first fly, do you have a link or recommendations where to buy those?
Thank you for compliments. I live in china so i cant tell you where to buy. While i was in serbia i used to order from rudi heger.
I too have much more success with an orange hot spot on my nymphs
For some reason it works. 😃😃🍺
To be blunt, who has time to stuff around with legs on their hare's ear like this? I'm tying for bulk flies. lol Not to micromanage my dubbing and legs. I love your attention to detail, but I don't have time for that level of care.
That's perfectly fine Trout will eat both flies... In all honesty most of the time i would dubb thorax softer and use velcro to brush it out... Sometimes i add cdc in a loop.... Which helps a lot...
@@Oholisfliesandfishing Yes! I saw that you were planning the CDC and I thought "Vlad's getting fancy!" then you picked up the hare's mask and I thought "Fuck, Vlad's getting opulent". Love both flies and I appreciate you showing how to tie them. Your videos on euronymph flies have helped me a lot.
