I’m almost 60 years old and in my lifetime the U.S. has never been any close to being this f-up. I am afraid for my kids and grandkids!

We are a Constitutional Republic where the citizens of each state vote in statewide elections as determined by each state within the guidelines of the Constitution. 2 Senators regardless of each states population. They ratify legislation that is supposed to be presented Legislators, the number of each states representatives determined by the population of that state.. Our eligable population votes in our Presidential election, but each state is represented by the electors in the "electoral college". Each states number of electors determined by the states population. Each state is a "winner take all" so if a Presidential candidate wins over 50% in a state with 14 electors.. all 14 electors go to that candidate. I understand your concern as there could be serious consequences if we don't get this right and allow our system of government to fail.. or even falter.. Be Well!! 😀

This is really a problem - we in Switzerland have the same problem not with the election of our Bundesräte - they are elected by the parliament, no direct election through the voters. But we have direct democracy concerning many issues. We are organized in cantons and have two Ständeräte per canton and only the Nationalräte represent the number of citizens of the cantons. And very often the little cantons win over the cantons that are the most populated if the Stände-mehr counts. Our advantage is that we have not an only person who represents the State, but seven and these have to decide together, that makes our State slow in decisions but more secure. Thank you for your kind explication and your good wishes. I wish you all over there good luck and a wise decision for the next election of the president. (I hope my english is understandable, I decided not to choose deepl.).

I've never felt so pessimistic about my country. It doesn't have anything to do with political ideology; rather, it's about sanity vs.insanity, and the fact that the insane have so much influence on the course of our civic life.
@Radical Sim Analogy can be as poor a tool as nostalgia; data is usually more informative. For better and/or worse, our civic life is based in a two-party system. The 1968-1976 period was the high point for the most extreme elements of the Democratic left; records show thousands of bombings (mostly of govt buildings at night), along with sit-ins and demonstrations that often became violent. But statistically, these sentiments were on the fringe; consider the fact that Richard Freakin' Nixon got elected twice during the period, taking 49 of 50 states in 1972. There was a lot of political tension, but the center was certainly holding. A recent YouGov poll shows 81% of Republicans believe the current President was fraudulently placed in office; they believe this in spite of mountains of evidence to the contrary. A recent Daily Kos/Civiqs poll showed that 56% of Republicans believe the Qanon conspiracy theory is "mostly" or "partly" true. As recently as 2020, more than half of Republicans polled didn't believe Barack Obama was born in America. I could go on and on. The essential point is that democracies can't function in the absence of a widely-shared reality. What's new is the ability of anyone to spread misinformation around the globe with a few keystrokes, and a hyper-competitive media environment that leverages our tribalism and our attraction to controversy to generate revenue.
@@Anthonyprinciotti I'd consider myself a centrist, but from my view the left-wing has a complete dominance of the narratives from the media, complete corporate backing from essentially all major sectors, and an extreme elitist distain for right-wing or populist perspectives. Unfortunately, it's become commonplace to claim bias simply as a means of rejecting information one doesn't like. This conflation of opinion with fact is really cancerous to our system, which was designed to make reason the foundation of our civic life. Finally, the notion of a "liberal media" is often asserted, but rarely substantiated. The biggest cable news channel is Fox; conservatives dominate talk radio. Facebook is filled with conservative feeds. I could go on and on. It's never been easier to find consistently accurate information; we're responsible for making the relatively meager effort it takes to get it.

Corporate sponsorships also destroy the credibility of our media with a perfect example being CNN being openly sponsored by Pfizer and running negative stories about Moderna while having surprisingly little to say about any negatives associated with Pfizer. I honestly don't understand how you came to the conclusion that Facebook threads, AM radio shows, and a single mainstream cable news station are enough to dismiss the fact that all forms of media are dominated by liberals. Late night shows, social media platforms, every cable news station besides fox and a few fringe networks, sports media, academic media, and essentially every celebrity in Hollywood are undeniably worth more than whoever replaced Rush Limbaugh on talk radio and some Q-Anon facebook groups run by geriatrics.

Democratic institutions in the US have not functioned democratically for a long time. Our policy regime is functionally a plutocracy. Now the most radically insurgent faction of it, representing a very narrow set of power interests, is shamelessly trying to seize the whole thing for itself. It's been a four or five decade seige that has succeeded in the gradual erosion of democratic institutions, and the current escalation is just the latest point on that trajectory. No one in public office is acting to avert future coup attempts like this. So I expect to see a permanent "President" placed in the Oval Office fairly soon, with extensive partisan purges of public officials as well as shutdown of many public institutions.

Like what anomalies? 2020 certainly has to be the most examined election ever. Georgia did three recounts (overseen by Republican Secretary of State), and all times confirmed Biden victory. Of over 50 court cases brought by Trump team challenging results all were thrown out by mostly Republican judges. There is one huge problem with how the U.S. conducts elections: the electoral college. We need to eliminate the electoral college and have one person, one vote … period.

I am 75 years old and an American History major. I attended an all-Black high school and an all-black university. I have been doing research most of my life, never have I seen America so divided. I learned about Emmet Till and Rosewood Florida from my great-uncles. I now compare everything according to what my Bible says. Americans pray as if your life depends upon it, because it does.

America should have a Commission on Elections. They should be independent to any suggestion or interference from any party, from the Federal level down to the State level.
When the Governor of California signed the Executive Order the state would move to become primarily a Vote by Mail state, the state’s Assembly Committee on Elections didn’t just say no, they said hell no. Then improved it (which brought it closer to resembling the Utah model). Unlike the contested states, California’s Legislature codified the changes. That is passed a law for the changes to take effect. CA also has a citizen run independent redistricting commission made up of 1/3 Dem 1/3 Rep and 1/3 Independent voters. It is impossible for the D or the R to stronghold the redistricting process.

That already exists at the state level. It doesn't at the federal level due to the fact that states have the right to manage their own elections. We have had commissions checking every election that I can remember for the last 40 years plus. Every state also does audits post election and they rarely find any discrepancies in totals and when they do it's never been enough votes to change anything. When they say that election fraud never happens on a scale to be an issue they meant it because it's a provable fact. When hundreds of millions of votes are cast and they only find on average a few hundred cases of possible fraud it kind of proves the fact. Beyond that Ohio has been a vote by mail state by option with zero excuses needed for my whole life and we have never seen any issues with it. For the longest time all you needed was your signature and your mailing information to match your voter registration to vote. Now you just have to also include you drivers license number or social security number, but honestly it didn't make it more secure because you had to register to vote by mail leaving a papertrail if you commited fraud so you would get caught. The point is illegals haven't been voting, that's always been a lie. Voter fraud rarely happens and when it does it's only a few votes usually out of millions. We catch them already an new commision would be wasted money to do a job already being done every election. Even your local government has an election body/commision, look into it.

Indisputable evidence is going before The Supreme Court proving that the 2020 election was totally stolen. I don’t trust the system I don’t think universal mail in ballots should be allowed and I’m talking from personal experience I broke up with my ex a couple of years ago and I was sent a ballot with her name on it how many millions were sent the same way? Also I don’t think anyone should have access to your ballot with mail in anyone that lives in your house has access to your ballot. Last election in Arizona (my state) 40% of tabulators broke down I. Election Day!
The problem with judges being so easy on people who blatantly spread propaganda is the danger they will do it again. When persons in power make statements, lay people believe them. It’s dangerous not to hold them accountable.
If not for at least 60 of those judges though, we may have had this election overturned unjustly. So, please people don't give up hope that we still have mostly good, sane people in the United States. Most, if not ALL, of the national political figures, who are election deniers KNOW this was a fair election. But most of the regular people in the United States have been brainwashed by the maga cult. It is going to take a lot more than calling them names and arguing with them to get them out of this cult.
