Pakistan After Bin Laden with Suroosh Alvi

2024 ж. 15 Мам.
7 023 105 Рет қаралды

Suroosh Alvi of VICE travels to Bin Laden's infamous compound to see what people really think about living next to America's most vilified fugitive. Unsurprisingly, their concern lies less with the proximity of Bin Laden than the chaos that his death has sparked. Although the controversy over whether or not Pakistan was harboring Bin Laden and the "trust deficit" is the primary focus for the American media, Pakistani news is busy covering the onslaught of violence that has broken out since the May 2nd raid. The people have seen a marked increase in American drone attacks, while the Taliban continues its retaliation with a relentless wave of suicide bombings. Anti-American sentiment has never run higher and this turbulent nation clearly has bigger issues than Bin Laden's death to contend with.

You can't see through walls. You can't notice somebody you can't see. Heck, I don't know most of the people in my neighborhood, and they're not even trying to hide. • I don't understand why some of those Pakistanis find it so hard to believe Osama was hiding in Pakistan. I mean where else was he suppose to hide out, in Paris? He was the most wanted man on the planet. He was clearly hiding somewhere, so why not Pakistan? His last known location was right next door in Afghanistan. He had plenty of contacts with people in Pakistan that he has known since the war against the Russians. Plus, the Pakistani intelligence agency has secretly supported extremists for years. So hiding in Pakistan would have been the logical location. Osama would not have lasted that long trying to hideout in any other country. Even most Muslims countries would have turned him over to the US to garner favor with them. If I had been Osama, I would have been hiding out in Pakistan as well. The fact that he was hiding in a compound, in a safe military town, not far from the Pakistani Military Academy was definitely not a coincidence. And to be honest, ,I seriously doubt if the Pakistani government even knew he was there. But there was definitely a small group of Osama loyalists, probably within the Pakistani intelligence agency, who were responsible for hiding Osama in Pakistan.

  • The kids reaction tells you all you need to know about the mentality of people about osama. If you didnt understand whathe said in the end, the reporter asked him would he go into his house if he knew osama was in there The kid replied excitedly definitely i want to meet him. Like he is a celebrity or something. Now the medical students clearly dont have a clue what hiding means like 7 years is not even that long tbh, and the other girl expected the house to be with a board saying osama house? And the funniest thing is their pm himself have confirmed that usa killed osama in abbotabad and made him a ‘martyr’.

FYI: anyone who is on the run, having to hide from anyone and require not being seen, keep in mind to not hide in the least expected place, don’t hide in the most shittiest place, and let a few folks of no association to you that indeed you are hiding from someone just so they know, for when you get caught they can confirm indeed you were hiding n they knew all along

  • Here's the difference between the Saddam Hussein capture and Osama bin Laden shooting: The Delta Force team who found Saddam found him by accident. They raided a house earlier in the night and the target they captured started anxiously spilling his guts later on the base. He gave them a location for Saddam's hideout- which Delta didn't believe but searched anyway out of protocol -and, sure enough, Saddam was hiding there. It stunned everyone. Saddam kinda fell into their lap, honestly. It was very much a developing story that just so happened to pay off for them on the fly. The bin Laden raid, on the other hand, had weeks of planning and intel leading up to it. The SEALs knew he was in there, and they'd already gotten into firefights in multiple locations prior to making their way up to his 3rd floor bedroom at his compound. This made bin Laden's house an active combat zone. I know Operation: Neptune Spear was a technically a 'kill or capture' mission, but Rob O'Neill confirmed it himself.... The SEALs on that mission were shooting that motherfucker the first chance they got.
