My father was the same way, “No dogs!” When I graduated from high school my boyfriend at the time gave me a little Yorkiepoo puppy. My father really never interacted with the dog or so I thought. As I would be walking him I would meet a lot of my Dads friends and they would say “Oh, you’re such a nice daughter walking your Dads dog.” Turns out he would take him for walks with him in the early mornings before I woke up and introduce him as HIS LITTLE MAN! After I found this out I busted him on it and since he knew I knew how much he loved my dog from then on he couldn’t hide it and took MY dog everywhere with him.

If a dog or cat chooses you, then you have no choice. You are their human
That is true and I'm a firm believer in that golden truth
True, but still a relatively mature dog is highly immature compared to even most 2 year old cats. I don't like whiny, needy, and over affectionate, I hellishly struggle with children. I was NEVER a child, I didn't get them then, I don't get them now. Same with dogs. My entire life thought process with dogs has been G-D calm down and Effing chill out. I don't like "innocent, child like, and hyper affectionate", I like "I see the world and I can chill out and deal with it". I tell my cats "NO" and they sit on the arm of the couch until I relax again, AND vice versa. My wife's dog hears "NO" and it just makes him want to be more in my face trying to make me happy because apparently he's chosen me as his BFF and wants to "fix" things. Myself? I'm saying well calm down and lay your head on my lap and we'll be fine, but it never happens, so I wind up quietly thinking "your a 40lb annoying wannabe suppository that I DON'T want up my ass, CHILL THE FUCK OUT". I'm always good to him but I have also been so frustrated with him I've had anxiety and chest pains. I've NEVER had this issue with cats, just the handful of dogs I've lived with. They are to hyper affectionate and don't seem to ever enjoy "their own space" like cats do. I like quiet time I can share with a "partner" that just happens to be furry (and also needs their own space too at times).

My dad didn’t want a dog. Fast forward a couple years and he was making buttered toast for the dog 😆
Love it!
Yeah my mom was eh he's an ok dog. Then she made him his own plate after we are Thanksgiving dinner the first year. Probably because my only rule was no begging if we were actually eating at the table. As a result Charlie got to sit next to me when my sister kicked the dogs out. That & she still forgot about a 50pound dog. But I knew he'd get some food sooner or later. She'd also save him the last bite of toast in the morning too.
Love that ❤️👍
Haha, in my case it was a cat, but he was suddenly buying special deli ham for the cat that we weren't allowed to eat lol.

The first time I saw my husband, of 15 years at the time, cry was when we lost our 9 year old Yellow Lab to liver disease. He went to his knees. Just reinforced that I married the right man. 32 years later his heart still breaks when we lose another precious companion.
My dad's a really rugged guy and can easily scare people just by a stare. There have been numbered occasions, maybe four or five when he's cried. One of them was when a stray we used to feed, died.
Oh, we don’t really lose them. They stay with us, and so does the Love! 🙂💜💙💚

Once upon a time, when I still lived at home, I brought home a tiny kitten. My dad's disgruntled reaction was "Just what we need, another cat". By the next day that cat could do no wrong. As far as Dad was concerned, the cat was the smartest, handsomest, most amazing cat on the planet. They slept together, snuggled together, read the newspaper together...until the day the cat passed away many years later, he was my dad's buddy. Dads put on a show, but it's all bluff.
My dad said the same thing when I brought home an orange kitten! And that cat was very smart!
Had a similar experience myself. Mum brought a kitten home and Dad hit the roof. A few days later I had to pop home at lunchtime and he was watching tv with the kitten asleep on his lap.
Had a Basset Hound for 12 years. Didn't want another dog and have resisted for the last five years but my son and wife kept pushing and showing me puppies...We pick up our Mini Schnauzer next week.
These are so adorable. My dad says he doesn't like dogs, every time we visit he seems happier to see our dachshund than us. 😂
A Dog is the most Loyal, Loving and Unconditional friend a person can have. I trust a dog more than anyone else bar none.
I still remember bringing our lab puppy home and my dad saying “we are not keeping it, take it back”. We handed her to him, she nuzzled in his neck. Needless to say we kept her. She ended up being his favorite dog we ever had. They have both passed now. It is so sweet seeing this. Brings that memory flooding back. Rip Ty and dad 😢
My Dad was never cuddly with Dogs until we got our Border Collie/Terrier mix named Titus. They were inseparable because Titus liked cars too. Titus would sit in Daddy's toolbox or across his chest while he worked on his cars and would bring him items that he needed to work on his vehicles. It was a very sad day when he Titus died.
I know right!I was there. Mommy 😔
@Gemma Edwards That was my Moma replying under my KZhead username. Thats why she wrote "Mommy" at the end.

I am that Dad, No dog.....fast forward 8 years my Jack Russell is my little shadow and I love her to bits. I get a welcome home from work every day like I have been away for a week. Cant say I get the same from the wife. hahaha
I didn't want to care for a dog until my wife and little daughter showed me a picture of a jackrussel puppy. Her name was Maya. I love to love dogs ever since. Had her 14 years. Then I saw another puppy I fell in love with she was also also a jackrussel. Named her Chloe. Never want to live without a dog ever. God's gift to us!!
I live alone with my two dogs - it would be so lonely coning home from work without them. One dances and the other brings me a squeaky toy - Every. Single. Time. Also, I come home from work at least 3 times a day, 7 days a week. And every time it makes me smile, no matter what kind of day I’m having.
@@elleumm 3 years on and I am still get the same welcome home, turns any day into a good day.
I was the same way. I believe dogs can sense when they are needed. That's why we fall in love with them.
Alberta Middleton That is so sweet
Truth! Almost all animals (mostly domestic) are that attuned to us.
So true. I said I didn't want another dog after my little guy died but then I took in a rescue dog. I didn't know how much I needed him. They are truly the best creatures.
I really believe that. My dogs could tell my mood without me saying a word.
My birds are much the same way, anyone who says birds are boring has never owned one...each of my birds has a distinct personality, characteristics, quirks, and way of showing their love. (They’re also a bit like cats in that they’ll be like “Scratch my head.....scratch my head....scratch my head*NIP*Okay that’s enough!” But they sure pick up on my moods, the ones who are grumpiest, in their late teens are sometimes less social, but if I go in there crying, they start making concerned little chirps. I’ve lost three, one just last month, and he sister is so lonely every time she hears me she gets very vocal and wants attention and love. She and her sister were almost never apart in the ten years since they were born. They would both have been 10 on Halloween, I helped raise them from eggs! One interesting side not, the second cockatiel I lost about two years ago, hewas the first one I owned, had him about 17 years. He had a very distinct name. He was the Alpha bird and had a male cage mate who was quite devoted to him (cockatiels form strong bonds), and I had another slightly younger male ‘tiel who was always trying to get the Alpha’s attention too, a Fanbird, you could say, both always saying the Alpha’s name. Gradually, within several months after my Alpha bird died, the other two males stopped saying his name, and I think I’ve heard it maybe twice in the time since. But when I showed Cagemate and Fanbird the body of the female I lost last month (Fanbird was actually her father), Cagemate said the Alpha bird’s name right away. It felt like he was saying “Oh, she’s gone where he has gone!” Anyway, it was interesting to me, and confirmed how much animals can understand things like death.
It isn't that they don't want a dog. It's that they don't want to ever lose them . Recovering after so many years together is ruff ( pun intended).
(pun appreciated) :)
Fiore Tutta I disagree, I think they just don't want to take care of them because we all know how dogs can be hard work and messy
I agree 100% from experience. Never mind Emily's comment. It's borne of ignorance yet harmless enough.
It’s not that, but you’re not wrong. The main reason is that they don’t realise the strong bond a house “master” (the dad) and a dog that they don’t have yet, can have
THIS I can't stand the thought of losing my dog... The worst part about owning a dog is that they don't live as long as you do. Some day, you will experience them go and its a heart wrenching twisted pain of the worst kind. I guess most dads had a dog that they loved and had to witness them leave this world. Nobody wants to go through that again.
nothing is stronger than the bond of a dad and the dog he “didn’t want”
i am blessed to have had parents who were animal lovers. i cant remember a time in my 58yrs that we didnt have at least 1dog,i now have 11of them,5cats,and 30birds. LIFE IS GRAND 😀🐶🐱🐤🐦

My dad said hell no to all three of our dogs now they sleep with him when I’m gone 😂
I loved this so much! Just because they didn't want a dog, doesn't mean they didn't need one in their life. I swear dogs are my favorite people. ❤
Absolutely 💯. I wasn't real big on dogs until I started taking care of my mom full time. I was home alone with my mom quite a bit and felt like something was missing. So a friend of mine out of nowhere asked me if I wanted this little runt pit from his litter, I said ok I'll take her. Best decision of my life really filled the void that I had. Even get along better with my daughters dogs. Lol they lay on my head when I sleep on the couch.
Dogs arent people and doesnt require the emotional sacrifice. You can beat, starve and neglect your dog but he will still show affection. These same actions toward a human has consequences.
@@nightnday6675 are you stupid dogs do have emotions and when they are neglected and beaten they become scared of humans, have you ever been to a dog shelter or seen an abused dog after being rescued, you obviously have never seen one before.
Brought home a dog who had been starved, neglected, abused. My family wanted to get rid of her until I said "Oh yeah, like we are are so easy to love". Meaning the dog is staying. What has been great is seeing the family and Stella (canine) loving one another. The road is smoother and so worth the life lessons we learn along the way.
Perfect statement!
When I was a kid we got a boxer puppy. My mother claimed she hated it, but dad was a true dog lover. Over the course of that dogs like, he spent over 20K keeping her going. He considered her a child, and if she needed medical attention, she got it no questions asked. Through all those years, my mother bitched, bellyached, and badmouthed that dog. When we finally had to put her down, my mother wept. Don't take 'em for granted, boys. They are a gift.
Lmao my dad said “You better not come back with a dog” Mom came back with Phantom, our black lab of 12 years, when he passed my dad buried him and turned around sobbing saying “Can you give us a minute” to this day that dog is my fathers phone background. That was almost 9 years ago.

Well, my heart just melted like ice cream in Las Vegas in July. Funny, this sparked a memory. My Dad liked pets okay, my Stepmom did not. They never had pets, and I don’t think she even liked her Mom’s dog (probably because the dog was smart and knew she was a bad person). Anyway, a few years later came a day I took my bird to a special vet in the town where my Dad lived, and had to stop by their place, she wasn’t home, and I came in and put my bird in his cage on the bricks in front of the fireplace (inactive) and stepped into the backyard to answer my cell phone. When I came back in, Dad had my bird on his finger and was talking to him! Damn, I wish cellphones had cameras back then! It was just lovely, and my bird liked him too, or he would never have stepped onto his finger. And I realized my love of animals is in no small part due to my Dad reading me the James Herriot books. It was so sweet. Miss you Daddy! Thanks for such a great gift.

Yeah....when I moved back to help out when my dad was sick, he was very impartial to my cat. 3 years later.....my cat is no longer my cat. Guess who's cat he is now.....?????? And when I move, my dad has already said "damn straight...... the cat stays here...." But my dad didn't want a cat.....😺
Yeah, we had a cat called Pedro. A big muscular dude with a beautiful shiny coat and teeth that overlapped his bottom jaw; I kid you not! He'd catch and eat rabbits, fight possums and kill stoats. Yet when it came to the family he was a big softy. We could call him like a dog and he would come from hundreds of yards away everytime. He'd meow back in response at every sentence you said to him. Everytime when he got on the couch with us in the evenings, he'd stand on Mum's lap, meow and gently touch the side of her face with his paw before sitting down. If it was raining and he came in wet, he loved nothing more than being dried with a towel and would roll around on his back purring away. It wasn't that unusual for him to go straight back outside in the rain and come back a couple of minutes later to get dried again..... there are so many stories. They're all special in their own way, but I feel that there's always one or two pets over a person's lifetime that just stick in the mind and stay in the heart. Pedro was that one for me. My parents were the kind of pet owners that when an animal got sick, they'd have them put down, no second thoughts. When Pedro got ill, they spent a LOT of money on vet bills for him until there were no options left. He was buried at home on top of the stop bank at the back of their property in his favorite spot, overlooking the neighbors orchard. I had moved out of home by then and had come back to town to say my goodbye the weekend before. After Pedro passed away, Dad phoned me to let me know and simply said ' the little bugger cost us a lot of money, but he was worth it....'
My dad claimed to hate cats, but after I got one, every day my dad would come over to my house, sit on the arm of the sofa, pet the cat for 20 minutes or so, then get up and leave without saying a word! This man who hated cats lolol
My mother hated cats but when l had to move home for a year l brought my tabby. Fast forward..moving out. Mother: you can’t take the cat,,,your dad would miss her too much. My husband for 16 years found excuses for us not to get a dog...some were valid but most of it was he was raised with cats & didn't think he'd like having a dog. Then my doctor suggested a service dog might be a good idea for me and his excuses were gone. When Lexie came into our lives my husband fell in love...he doesn't even want to walk to the store without her! She's my service dog & my baby but she's his BFF!
The dog looks the dad in his eyes, then they are bff, it's very simple when it comes to dogs. Pure love.
My dad's pretty much the same way. He'll sometimes say, "When are we taking her back?" in reference to our dog (a 12-pound dachshund beagle mix), but then he'll let her hop into his lap when he's at the kitchen table and rub her shoulders.

Sadly she passed away cause of cancer in August last year. We were and are heartbroken.... First we said no new dog but we couldn't stand that emptiness and lonelyness in the house... So he found Marley, he was found at a dumpster in Greece and after quarantine he came to Germany. It was love at first sight for all and maybe it's Karma - he looks like a little brother of Daisy... We are so happy that we can give Marley a life with love and care he deserves and we know Daisy's soul is around us and she is happy to see that this sweet new dog will have the same wonderful life she had with us. That #16 "I'm Not A Dog Person" The face was just hilarious HAHAHA I CAN'T😆
My dad didn’t want a dog. Showed up one morning and he was making pancakes for mom and him, AND the dog!! 😂
I think as an adult...many older people have lost animals..but when it is brought back into their life it can remind them of the happiness they once had.
My husband didn't want a dog but next thing you know, he feeds her extra on spaghetti night (because it's her favorite) and they are sleeping buddies. Well, more like she pushes him out of the way throughout the night or day to where he's on the edge of the bed or couch.
Awww..💕
@Disney4Life Lol! That’s cute. The added Parmesan is the topper of pug delights. Thanks for sharing this. It made me chuckle. 😄
As a Dad, A double dog owner, and a Nurse, all I can say is who rescued whom. Dogs are good for your soul!
Dogs are relentless in the love department! They will force themselves into your hearts!
#3 Technically the dog is not on the couch. The dog is on the dad.
Animals just have a way of crawling into your heart ☺
Happened to me when my wife brought home a German shepherd puppy, twelve and half years later, "don't mess with my baby boy". I couldn't have imagined my family without that selfless, loving boy!
I never wanted cats in my life, yet I had three great rescue cats. They wrap their little paws around your heart and they give so much love and joy in return. I’ve had some wonderful rescue dogs in my life as well. Every pet deserves a good home.
When in doubt , get a dog ! Life's just better that way 😎
It sure is scott well said
Or a cat. Actually, you better get 2 if each. They're happier that way.😊
Not if you don’t have the money, cause then you just end up having debt
It's a strange thing with some dads, my dad grumbled like hell any time we got a new cat or dog but eventually would let them sleep on him whenever he took a nap. Though we had one dog that would try to sleep on his face so we'd have to make suffocation checks.
you can't say no to a fur baby. don't even try to resist. resistance is futile.
Once you get a dog you’ll always have one if possible, nothing beats their love.
I am guilty as charged. Pip is my buddy. I look forward to coming home to his greetings.
My mom didnt want the dog. He spent 75% of his time in her lap and the rest following her around.
These men are great dads! The world needs more like them.
My dad always said "i don't want have a kid" and now,he have me😢
And you look adorable! I hope he realizes just how lucky he is to have you!
@@ranstra12 thx...
So, you were a surprise-he didn't know he wanted you until he had you!😎
I love a man that loves animals❤
DOGS ROCK OUR WORLD!
Life is not complete without a dog! No one appreciates, adores and loves unconditionally like your dog!
My fiancé: I’m a cat person, I hate dogs Also my fiancé: spent $200 on his business trip just for gifts to our puppy. And always cuddles with pup right away when home.
My bf didnt want my our dog ....that he brought me ! But now they are best friends and im the outcast .... Lmao it really gets to me
My Poppa was exactly the same when we gave him "his little Polly". She went everywhere with him.
Men and dogs have a bond that stretches back as far as humanity has existed. It can't be resisted.
Dad’s are big softies really 😊 and how can you not fall in love with dogs
