Soooo Jack, I have a date tomorrow night and I was going CRAZY over what to make for her lol I was thinking Curry Chicken or Tom Yum Goong soup but dude, this recipe looks absolutely brilliant. I'm for sure making this for her 👍
Haha I messaged him regarding what to cook for a female too and he replied and gave me advice bless him haha hope it goes well mate ! 👍
Watch out for the onion smell though mate!
Good luck my man!! 🙏
@@billyshortz6033 Success! She absolutely loved it! Thanks for the support lol She wants me to cook again tonight and I'm like YESSSS.
@@mohammadabukar5022 You weren't lying about that smell! Lol It was awesome.
I am Indian and I have been cooking curries for over 40 years and I can tell you this looks delicious ❤️
Pls tell us your recip ❤
What is different with your recipe?
@@westcott2204I would blend the onions leave them out of the marinade and fry as in the recipe. Our family doesn’t do cut onions like that we always blend or back in the day mortar and pestle it makes for a very smooth gravy. Nothing wrong with this recipe.
How did it taste?
Indeed it is delicious. I used Kashmiri chilli powder instead of paprika, and sprinkled on some Kashmiri garam masala towards the end. I'll try your suggestion of puree-ing the onion next time.
Really liked the way you broke down the effects of the different spices, how they work and compliment each other. I'd love to see a video just describing various spices , how , when and why to use with their effects etc
Coming back to say Ive been making this almost once a week since you posted it two years ago. It tastes even better the next day so i make it as part of meal prep and look forward to it on busy days. Can't thank you enough for this deliciousness!
Jack ...this is hands down the best cooking channel. I like how you explain why we do things the way and the order we do them. So clear and concise. The tv channels should be begging you to do a cooking show.
Wow, Jack, this was the most delicious curry I've ever cooked! My son agreed, and he's usually a bit picky about curries :-) Thank you so much for this amazing recipe!
I had family and a friend over tonight and made this recipe to the letter (scaling it up). Everyone was amazed that I - a cooking moron - made such an amazing meal. Thank you so much!
I too went from a cooking idiot to a decent cook from watching these type of videos. I can safely say that unless someone has a learning disability to no fault of their own. Anyone with a little courage and willingness can learn to make delicious meals
I love all the helpful tips and mini explanations whilst keeping it all concise! Subscribed!
First time viewer of your channel and you've got a subscribe for me. I love how you talk about sustainability and 'saving for stock/composting' in your videos plus I loved how you explained the spices and garnishes.
Absolutely beautiful, and your explanation is so clear and simple, not a wasted word.
Thank you so much 😊
He places all wasted words in a compost bin.
Yes he’s perfect , no messing and vey clear
I really appreciate you explaining what each spice's purpose is. I learned a lot. Good work! 🙏🏻👍🏻
Yes indeed...."curries" vary from country to country and even region to region within.... This seems a rather mild curry to me unlike the "hotter" ones from, say, India....which are not to everyone's palate.
@@patagualianmostly7437 it’s definitely an Indian curry, although dairy is used more commonly in India. They use grated coconut in South india
Beautiful and simple. I am subscribing! Love the simplicity and looks absolutely scrumptious
First time I've seen you. Love the fact measurements in imperial and metric and that you give explanation on flavours of ea indiv spices. Then, portion amts and leftover instructions. Brilliant!
Update: Made this for dinner, absolutely delicious!! I only left out the desiccated coconut & cashews. This will definitely be on my regular menu. Anyone who might think there are too many flavours or that it might be too pungent, it all melds together beautifully, creamy but not overboard, & the flavour.. I always have a well stocked pantry & fridge, grow my own veggies & fruit & would always end up making 4-5 meals in a circle. Your recipes have really changed my approach to cooking, love your recipes!! 🌺🇦🇺
Fantastic!! So glad you enjoyed it! 😊🙏🙏
Made this tonight- Thank you this was delicious! The depth of flavour was so so good ❤ We absolutely loved it. The first of your recipes but not the last. I look forward to trying many more. But i will definitely be keeping this recipe as a regular curry Cheers
I made this last week and it was amazing. Thank you for sharing
Excellent delivery! Subscribed!
I made this and it was incredible. So so good and easy to follow. Thank you so much for making this video!!!
I've been striving for the perfect BIR (British Indian Restaurant) curry for the past year, tried multiple base gravies, different spice blends and my girlfriend hasn't shown even the smallest interest in the results... Made your curry this evening and she says it's the best meal she's ever tasted. So thanks.
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for you JACK sharing your skilled in cooking Good Luck n Bless You
❤
Nice video Jack. Well explained, and I can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to more of your videos.
Looks amazing ! Love this tutorial. Straight quick and to the point. Also great to get little explanations to everything added and what it does. Perfect perfect tutorial!
Dude I think this is my favorite new cooking channel. I'm a therapist in LA and I've always felt one of the most therapeutic things people can do in their home is learn to cook. Your channel is full of cheap healthy recipes that I'm certainly going to recommend, thanks for all you do!
Thank you so much! It’s great to hear you’re enjoying the channel 🙏
For anyone who wants to make this more authentic, add diced or pureed tomatoes in after the onions and let them cook before adding the coconut milk. Also slice the chicken into bite-sized pieces to make them, ya know, biteable.
Agree, we Chinese chefs do the same.
I just did that before reading your comment 👍
Oh my goodness. This sounds awesome and definitely going to make this. I just love curry and could eat it every second day. Thanks so much.
Really appreciate your videos pal.. Your simplistic approach is so rare and easy to implement… Kudos. Love your content.
Thanks Jack! I really like how you specially described the different tastes each spice contributes to the dish. That really helps me since I'm trying to learn about them and how to encorperate them into my dishes. Good stuff man.
That’s great to hear! Glad you enjoy the information 😊
I'm lucky to have curry every day. The variations im accustomed to never allows it to get boring
Curry is absolutely amazing. What are some that you frequently eat?
I’m definitely trying this, it looks delicious. Have been looking for a good curry recipe and this is it. Thank you. ❤👍🏽
very nice jack.... i'm a fan. looking forward to trying your other recipes!... awesome
I have made this recipe a few times now and it’s absolutely delicious, my father (who claims he does not like curry) scoffs this anytime i make it - there are never any leftovers! 🤤🥘
Well done. Also, loved the forward momentum of the examples and descriptions. It's rare that I don't have to play recipe videos on a higher fast forward speed. This narrator was so good and so efficient in his narrative I did not have to do that. This is one of the best cooking videos on KZhead in my opinion and I cook a lot. Thank you!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. That narrator is me haha
Had to comment. Your whole approach to videos is is a breath of fresh air. Food is simple and tastes amazing
Absolutely delicious. Well explained straight to the point recipe! Thank you thank you. Looking forward to trying out more recipes from you.
This is the first video of this channel that I saw. And I am happy to declare that Chef Jack Ovens is going to be my new BFF. I am mean this guy cooks with kindness. 'Let flavors become friends'..'no wastage' . Video is short, to the point.. no unnecessary commentary.
Loved it Chef, I'm a bit picky with curries but this is the best, all your videos are clear and full of facts about the ingredients which keep me healthy. Thank you, for being you.
It's a pleasure. This curry is packed with flavour and is delicious
I made this dish today for the first time and it was super tasty! Very excited to test out more of your recipes. 🤤
Lovely, thankyou Jack, looks like the best of the best...
Great recipe, have all the ingredients, tonight's dinner. You always incorporate delicious sauces. Thank you 👍🌺🇦🇺

My goodness just cooked this, WOW it is sensational!! Best curry I’ve ever had. Thankyou !!
I used to go to Viceroy of India in Chicago to eat this delicious dish, But I moved to Texas and I miss that exquisite taste, luckily I found this recipe perfectly explained and I can't wait to prepare it and enjoy the unique flavor of curry! thank you very much chef!
Made this and it’s absolutely delicious10/10
Exactly what I was looking for. Such good recipe. Thank you for this 🫶🏽
Thank you.. subbed and saved. I’ll be doing this for my family in the week coming.
Love a great curry! Such a versatile dish and everyone has their own little twists and changes that they do making everyones take on curry completely different!
Definitely!!
That takes me back to my University day with a Malaysian roommate. We'd rotate the cooking duties, and cleanup was easy since we ate with our fingers. The smells were to die for. Your recipe looks very similar, I'll have to try this.
love the spice breakdown
Wow, does that look excellent. Thank You for the recipe!
Excellent recipe...simple, delicious curry delight. Once a week...it's that good. Thanks a bunch.
No worries! Glad you’ve been enjoying it
Great chef this guy……really simple and concise and the end result is tremendous! 😊😎👏
Thank you so much
@@ChefJackOvens You’re welcome😎👍
This looks AWESOME!! I am an instant fan! Thank you!!
Hey, I just cooked this meal and it's impossibly good.. I really can't believe how yummy it is. It's my first time ever cooking a curry and I'm absolutely stunned at how great it turned out. This recipe is wonderful thank you so much!!
That looks completely nuts, will be making this for sure. The flavour breakdown was great!
It's not completely nuts. There are cashews in it but there are other ingredients as well.
Ok, I've finally tried it and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Even my 6 month old was going nuts for it.
Thanks for another chicken recipe, chef! The addition of roasted cashew nuts is a nice idea. Whenever my family cooks chicken curry, we usually add potatoes and carrots. I'll suggest the roasted cashew nuts next time we make one.
I loved it!. I’m going to try it.I love the way you cook and talk. Thank You
Great video, thanks Jack
Coconut curries are my favourite. TY Jack!
They’re so good 😊
@@ChefJackOvens Thanks Jack for your response. Would this be the basic coconut curry base, that I can add any meat or seafood to as well?
@@annstewart4542 definitely 😊
@@ChefJackOvens Thanks so much Jack. I am putting together some easy recipes for my daughter to prepare. She is moving out of home in a few weeks. I have to make sure she eats well. TY so much for your easy and delicious recipes. 💚

Your breakdown of the spices was so satisfying to hear :)
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
So well explained. Gave me confidence to get going and make the chicken curry. Thanks so much from Australia.
I followed your recipe and it turned out really amazing! It’s my first time cooking curry😊 Thank you so much!
I cook this with my very fussy eight year old son (skipping a couple of the extras and blitzing the onion) and it's his favourite food now. Thanks Jack!
That’s awesome! So great to hear
I can see why you would eat this amazing dish every week Jack! Another fantastic recipe! TFS 👍💖
You’re very welcome Hazel 😊
I’ve made several of your recipes. They all are easy and work!
Great to hear! Thank you 🙏
I’m glad this video showed up. I subscribed & looking forward to see your content.
Another brilliant recipe Jack, and quick too. Thank you so much for all your lovely meals. Take care. x
It’s always a pleasure Jacquie 😊
I'm glad this guy seared the chicken first and cooked the onions in the fond. Even some indians don't do that. They either make the sauce first and add the raw chicken. or cook the chicken separately, and do nothing with the fond. You want the chicken slightly charred, with the flavour in the sauce too!
what! you have to slowly braise the chicken with the marinade always.
I absolutely love your videos and recipes. You get to the recipe quickly and make it interesting. Love watching your knife skills. This looks delicious and I will be making it!
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoy them
Love the deep descriptions! Hope you are well!
Thank you. Glad you enjoy it. I’m very well, hope you are too
Dude...thank you so much for explaining the purpose of those spices. That's why I love your videos of recipes cause you thoroughly explain. I follow recipes and at times don't really know the purpose of some ingredients. It's good to understand so I know how i can implement then in another recipe right? Lol so thanks man it helps alot. Love this dish!
So glad you enjoy the additional information! I do find it’s important to know as like you said it helps understand the usage of them for different recipes 😊
I love chicken curry Jack. I was going to make a chicken casserole today as I already have the chicken thighs, but after seeing this recipe, I have changed my mind. Great recipe and video as usual. Well done mate.
Awesome, Trev! Please enjoy it mate 😊
Love how you explain everything so well.
Thank you, glad you enjoy it
This is a great demonstration video for a phenomenal recipe. Thank you.
Pretty much exactly my chicken curry, and yeah I eat it once a week too. I don’t mind lightly frying a good handful of raw unchopped cashews at the start, then adding them back in towards the end. It’s a texture thing. It’s like coming across gold nuggets in the rice and sauce mix.
This is going into my rotation next week - looks fantastic!
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it 😊
Just came across this, seems easy and awesome! Thanks!
Jack am sold! for ever and ever Amen! You pulled this through and it’s just the job. Thank you.
Thank you!
Oooo I almost can smell it ! It looks delicious !! Thank you Jack !
You’re very welcome ☺️
This is the first recipe I made and it definitely won't be the last! It's so good....it's too bad I can't eat more in one sitting LOL. Thanks for the great recipes!
Hi my name is Mary I would like to learn how to make dal and somosa and beef brbbiryani
I’ve made this several times for my family and it always comes out amazing, even if I’m missing an ingredient or two sometimes, it still tastes good. The whole family approves. Thank you for the recipe😊😊
Like your videod, information, recipies. Can't wait to try this.
Good lord, you have some excellent knife skills. If all else fails you could always become a surgeon ;)
Thank you 🙏 Haha 😂
In ancient India, barbers used to do surgery, under supervision of Ayurvedic practioners.
@@RAIRADIO Were they part-time undertakers too? LOL! Seems like one would never be out of a job.
It looks superb and probably tastes better than my version. I don’t actually use coconut milk, I do use coconut oil though. I make a gravy with arrowroot flour and all organic ingredients with basmati rice as well but the arrowroot flour that I use is full of B vitamins and is supposed to remove toxins as well, all I know is that I feel really good after eating it. My local restaurants don’t seem so nice since I’ve been cooking for myself.
Gluten and dairy free, absolutely great! Thank you so much 😊
I'm a new subscriber and absolutely loved this when I made it. Got friends coming next weekend and this is what I'm doing. Thank you xx
Perfect! Great to hear you enjoyed it
The break down of each spice's flavour was awesome. Proper chef shit.
👌👌👌🤤
He also cooks the rice the right way. People often don't pay attention to the apparently easiest thing to do.
Perfect!! This is the sort of food that I love to eat...who doesn't like coriander leaves? Really? Damn...I LOVE coriander leaves! One thing I will say...as a Head Gardener with 40 yrs experience...DO NOT put onion peelings, garlic, ginger, scallions, into your compost maker...it'll kill your earthworms. Put that stuff straight into your food recycling container or your general waste...Keep your compost maker for general pH neutral veg peelings and some fruit...but not too much citrus...those earthworms are sensitive to acidic foods like oranges and the onion family!! It will kill them! Feed those earthworms and they will give you amazing compost. Great recipe Mr Ovens...
Appreciate it thank you! I never put onion peels in compost, I always use them for stock but much appreciated for the advice. I love learning new things, especially about gardening, taking quite a liking to gardening lately.
What a beatifull recipe. Definitely going to try this one. I love the way you inspired me with this recipe... Thanks for sharing!
You’re very welcome! Please enjoy it 😊
