At the 1991 Tournament of Champions, there was a telephone hoax call received just as the players were warming up. This caused the bowling alley to be evacuated and it had to then be searched. Luckily, it did turn out to be a hoax call, but there was a great deal of uncertainty as a similar incident had occurred at a tournament the previous week, which turned out to be genuine. In this video we look at the entire incident.

I love how they get a bomb threat but then stand right outside in the parking lot. lmao
They were not worried.😂
I was told the story by Mike Miller himself. That's amazing you were able to find a video of the tournament.
Ozio had one of the very best physical games.
Some pretty sweet retro polos on that telecast.
Wish they still had them. I don't like the modern jerseys.
Chris Schenkel and Nelson Burton Jr were a great PBA announcing team.
Always odd to see a 5 pin miss, I remember Randy did that against PDW and still won the match
I think that was also at the ToC (the infamous “General Tire” ToC; that sponsorship lasted all of one year).
That missed 5-pin was one of several oddities at that 1994 Tournament of Champions. If I recall correctly, Steve Jaros shot a 129, which became the lowest TV score until Tom Daugherty shot 100 at the 2011 edition. The TOC has had some odd things happen over the years, even the 2024 version!
I remember this! I had it taped on VHS.
This was the PBA’s “Heidi” telecast (search the NFL’s Heidi game). Just goes to show what ABC executives thought of its long running Saturday afternoon staple program. They wouldn’t delay a recorded ice skating event. Pitiful.
Harry “Goose” Golden did announce all of the spectators & everybody by informing the to get out of Rivera Lanes due to frivolous bomb threat back in 1991, I remember that incident. Chris & Bo did it from outside.
i think there was also a "silverspoons" incident similar to the "heidi".
I remember watching this live and figuring the backtiming, realizing there wasn't enough time for the final match unless the network would allow it aired live.
I do remember this as a kid.
That’s smart to be that close to the building
Bomb scare. Why is everyone still standing in the parking lot???
why worry FFS
@@TR-vr5pz At 1:21 he says they had another bomb threat the week before and in that case law enforcement did find an actual bomb in the building.
@@theinsaneshecklador6598 please
It wasn't a threat to the parking lot.
I just look up pba bowling glitch but this show up 2 hours ago.
Ice skating sucks. Show the bowling.
I remember this episode
I wonder if the bomb looked like one of those round black cartoon bombs that looks exactly like a bowling ball.
Mike Miller, the original no-thumb bowler!
Keep your friends bombs close and your enemy bombs closer!
I remember this, and I remember bomb scares being common back then.
Where I grew up (Wakefield, MA, in the early '90s), someone called in a bomb threat to the high school, and while the police was distracted, they robbed the bank downtown.
The only thing worse than a copycat bomber is the bomber that they're copying.
schinkle and nelson covering a bomb threat at of all places a bowling alley, too much. i don't remember it.
This is not the explosive action one usually expects from a bowling telecast.
Bowling in the 90s? That bomb threat could have set of a stampede and the 8 fans in attendance panicked on their way out.
You saw that the place was packed, right? 🙄
@@karlepaul6632 PAcked? You mean like the 200 people that fill up a 5 row set of bleachers? Surely you are not trying to suggest that the PBA was some huge spectator sport in the 90s. It was probably even worse then than it is now.
@@karlepaul6632 Packed with a couple hundred retirees promised some air conditioning for awhile. This is packed in the same way women's college basketball games looked packed because they cover all the seats and put fans only where cameras will point. And it is packed in the same way WCW telecasts were packed...due to lots of free tickets given out with free bussing to the tournament.
Nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition!
Striking
:50: Did they blame the President like they would now ?
hi
A bum, not a bomb!
Omg my cousins friend made that call! Lmao!!!!
I promise you that’s not a lmao
