  • I got my PPL in 2002. I trained in a 1973 C172 with a 180 HP powerplant, powerflow exhaust, and a constant speed prop. Let's just say upon my first solo, that thing climed like a rocket. I loved that plane. I was checked out in C150s and C182s as well. Unfortunately I have not flown since 2007. Thanks for the video!

    • I soloed in a Tomahawk my instructor asked me how it felt I told her it climbed a lot faster without her in it. haha. She was killed in 1996 and my wife grounded me after that. I did get to fly for 5 years before that happened. RIP Peggy

  • I grew up and still live in McMinnville. My dad was the FBO (A&P, multi-engine CFII, crop duster...etc.) at RNC for almost 15 years in the 1960's. We lived at the (old) airport terminal for about six years. I am SEL/Instrument and have a 1969 182M, based at RNC, of course. Would love to take y'all flying over Fall Creek Falls if you ever get back for the family reunion thing.

  • Cool. Reminds me of my 4th solo cross-country. Had to go out 100 miles to a quiet little commercial airport, check in and file for the return leg, and come back. No problem, came out of the control tower and noticed a nice little restaurant, got a burger with fries. Twenty minutes later took off and got back to the flight school. It was a really nice day - until the flight instructor started asking in a really irritated voice where the hell I was and why I made the next lesson wait fifteen minutes. Oops.

  • Enjoyed the flight. Nice form landing, holding the nose gear off. But one suggestion for those to whom this applies. Please abbreviate your call sign at non towered fields. Not really sure why everyone uses full call signs, and calls every leg of the pattern even when the patterns empty. It just congests the ctaf for everyone within a 50-100 mile radius.

All the money is in parts and tools , engine and prop inspections and overhauls. The rest he works on himself including airframe inspections.
