I know this is a joke but the reason this happens is because he's technically racing a ghost, and since he didn't win, the game said he lost, presumably because the developers didn't want to make a whole ending scenario for a tie, which is extremely rare.

@@jungleparkway On a more technical level, The code most likely asks for "Is current time lower?" which in this case it's not lower. They could have done "Is it lower OR EQUAL" which would show a win, But technically, it's not a win when you tie a ghost. So that wouldn't make sense and would frustrate when you try to beat a ghost (YOU WIN! but actually no, you scored the same as before..) So losing makes more sense in that case. Leaves Only 2 options to program: Win or lose.

Edmund Ng TAS stands for tool-assisted-speedrun(super play) It can be done in a number of ways, but it is fundamentally a program where people lay out a set of inputs for the computer to initiate and use save states, frame-by-frame inputs, and various other tools to create the optimized run. In short, it’s people using tools. TASBOT is a character used in the TAS community as a “runner” for events. Funny enough, Japan has something similar, as they sometimes use the term TAS-san.

When you've played this game for a long time some shortcuts lose their wow factor and become trivial, such as the bcwii glitch and dk summit double cut, and it was so nice to hear and see the reactions from the crowd and twitch chat reminding me of what i was like when i first saw those shortcuts many years ago. Huge congrats to everyone that took part in this!!!
I'll say that watching the toads factory cut when it came out was really amazing
I definitely agree, but the GV2 and Rainbow Road cuts made my jaw drop. I don't think I've seen either one before.

It was great to watch this live. Although I am very upset to have not made it to gdq, I am so happy to have been able to contribute as much as i did. The standing ovation at the end made me cry, the whole thing made me so emotional. Getting the credit in such a big event felt so surreal. As a fan of this amazing community, I'd like to express my utmost gratitude to the MKWii TAS community for making these wonderful runs, and Dwango for allowing them to show their work on the biggest stage in speedrunning. And, also, kudos to Sword for his awesome performance as Funky Kong. He's genuinely one of the funniest people in the Mario Kart community, and you should go check him out.
Awesome to see how far MKWii TASing has come, there are still constantly new strats found, i wonder what strats, shortcuts and glitches there will be in the future. I love TAS for mainly one reason. When I was a kid I've always wondered what it will look like if robots completely destroyed games. TAS is the closest thing we're gonna get so far and I love it.

Just watched this for the second time, and I couldn't agree more with the standing ovation. What a FANTASTIC presentation. I still couldn't take my eyes off the screen, amazed at how much work must have gone into it to find out the glitches, and you even managed to explain everything so that normal people could understand it. Absolutely stellar.
As a kid, I actually had one of these bots I think as one of the ghosts in Coconut Mall. I never knew about TAS until years later.
