Alanis Morissette - Guardian (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

"This video is a tip of the hat to Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire (it is the 25th anniversary of the film having been released). the full circle poetry of my having written 'uninivited' for itsremake, combined with my love of the original movie, combined with my love of Germany, having lived there for three years as a child (by the Black Forest) combined most importantly with how this video is such a visual extension of the song 'guardian', which is so close to my heart....it was so much fun to make it in Berlin! i think it really shows how the parent/guardian angel role are linked....how, ultimately, a powerful inner parent calls upon spirit to guide her/his choices on the loved ones' behalf...whether it is for a child, a friend, or an inner child...this love and this grace is available to everyone." - Alanis

    • @@Lillpixeychic Hang in there, we all face great storms in our life. You will find a way! I only now see the end of the storm I too have been going through since the end of 2017 to the moment of this very post but soon to end. It could have taken me, there were moments that I almost let it. Yet here I stand having pushed through, treaded water, and suffered countless moments alone in solitude. Betrayed, my purpose removed, my identity shattered, financially destroyed, and my family laying in waste, by the one I would have died for... It took a lot the push through it, to find a new purpose, to rebuild my life, and find a way to accept the derailment of so many years of effort by someone I cared deeply for but let me tell you it is possible to heal. I wish you well!!!

  • i miss those days when artists like Alanis rule the music scene, true artist that is. Unlike today, some "singers" are there just for popularity and greed for attention. They don't even write their own lyrics. No heart and no connection. 90's baby here and proud of it. I love you Alanis....keep rocking and inspiring....

  • This song has always moved me to tears , not one time I would listen to it without crying . Probably because it talks directly to the inner part of me as of many , as we are all wishing for a loving sweet guardian but mostly need to realize that this guardian can only be ourselves in the end . Dedicated to myself today - and to all those with an immensely broken heart .

"Thank u" and "Joining you" really were Songs, in wich I felt understanding of myself, and they helped me through the years of the millennial. So I can say, you are one of my guardians. But more than that, I would like to say, you are my sister in going through all of these wandering times. We're almost the same age, I guess. I was born in '76.

I want you to know that you have given me the ability to see the well of strength within me when all I want to do is just lay down forever and retreat from the world. You have taught me to love every part of me even the parts people don't want to like. You have shown me the love and humility that humanity has to offer. I am battling my own chronic illness now and I will never stop listening to your words Alanis, since my youth, pre Jagged Little Pill, I'm talking Too Hot and You Cant Do that on Television era, I have adored your presence and wait in anticipation for what you have to show the world. Thank you for your bravery and self work Alanis. This song is now me singing to my mother the way she once sang to me. I love you with all that I am Alanis. Thank you for all the words!

  • Thank you Alanis, and all your crew, for such a beautiful moving song. Every time I listen to this song I think of all of the guardians of my life and I can't help but tear up. My brother and Savior, even Jesus Chris (Of course he's first on my list) My wife (Especially my wife) My mother My father My grandparents My friends My brothers My aunts and my uncles My God have I been blessed with so many watchmen/watchwomen!

  • Special voice beautiful tone quality with a raw, honest delivery. Sometimes with an even slightly annoying nasality when reaching for higher notes. And with unmatched lyrics, it all comes together in near perfection. She was one of my very favorite female singers when I was growing up. Almost 30 years since JLP became one of my favorite cassettes in1995. 2023 and still loving her!!!❤

    • A lot of people missed it. The label that released this didn't quite have the marketing budget that Maverick had, and it didn't really get much airplay anyways. Musical tastes had shifted away from her, and nobody really knew how to handle a happy Alanis... It's a shame; this was one of her best in years.

  • You, you who smiled when you’re in pain You who soldiered through the profane They were distracted and shut down So why, why would you talk to me at all Such words were dishonorable and in vain Their promise as solid as a fog And where was your watchman then I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand The greatest honor of all as your guardian You, you in the chaos feigning sane You who has pushed beyond what’s humane Them as the ghostly tumbleweed And where was your watchman then I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand The greatest honor of all as your guardian Now no more smiling mid crest fall No more managing unmanageables No more holding still in the hailstorm Now enter your watch woman I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand The greatest honor of all as your guardian

  • Most songs you fall in love with take time to sink in. Every listen makes the song sink a little deeper into you until it's a 'favorite' Then there is the rare song that, the first time you hear, it's right there. Boom. This is one of those songs. First time I heard it, I was thunderstruck. Truly an amazing song.
