Moving is hard, but have pet raccoons add extra difficulties. We needed to spend time raccoon proofing our new home before the raccoons could move in so that it was safe for them (and our things!)

I just rescued a baby raccoon and I’m in the process of training it ( I say It because I have no idea what it’s gender is because it’s still a baby) momma was killed by a car. I have questions and I kinda need your help on a few things. It would be greatly appreciated
They are unbelievably systematic! Checked out EVERYTHING from start to finish. Would make first class secret agents. Well, maybe not the secret bit. Wish I cld be half as consistent as they are!!
2 years ago I mentioned how clean your house was.. I stand by it to this day. I watched you from the beginning with the original raccoon! Enjoy your new house it's beautiful.
When the raccoon got spooked and ran after knocking down the garbage can in the bathroom, it showed not only curiosity in going back and checking it out again, *high* *intelligence,* as it knew immediately upon returning, exactly how to open the cover (lifting from the bottom up), even though the garbage can was on its side.
So glad you’re back as I missed you and your loved ones! Great new home!!

I am so glad I found your site! My husband rescued a baby raccoon from the side of the highway, about 4 1/2 months ago…the mother had been hit and died. Neither of us knew anything about raccoons or how to care for them, etc….so I did what I’m doing now, searching for videos of legit people that own and also raise pet raccoons, bc each day is a learning experience for me and my husband! From searching Google, Freddie (our pet raccoon), named after Freddy Krueger, Nightmare on Elm St, bc of their extremely long nails, and I’m an 80’s chick too😁, looks to me physically, about half the size of your male raccoon, I put him at about 30 weeks old right now, I’m sure I’m wrong bc I’m just currently learning about them…but we all are adjusting just fine so far! We also have a 12 1/2 yr old pit/lab mix…Chuwii, and we leave Freddie loose during the day, to run free with Chu in our home, while we’re both at work…he’s earned my trust that much already! I find him absolutely amazing, and we have definitely fallen in love with him, he’s here to stay!♥️

Ohh my goodness!! They are freaking adorable!! Unfortunately, we have a Mama Raccoon that has been teaching her babies that they can get food from the big trash bins (that you put on the sidewalk for collection every week). Not having access to a drill or anything the only thing I could do to “prevent” the mess & danger was to jerry-rig a lock - - it’s really just a metal coat hanger with several keychain ring thingys and a couple of rugged bungee cords that keep the lid from being opened, mostly. They managed to knock over the recycling bin recently. I know the raccoons are around so I try to make noise to alert them that a human is coming before I walk out the door. Usually I will open the door enough to make noise when I shut it, I have this little tin box that’s got a few screws and washers in it that is loud and I toss that out the door onto the pathway about 30 seconds before I walk out the door. The other day I was leaving for work and it was still pretty dark out I did the normal noises and saw that the recycling bin was on its side again…. I stopped to listen, heard absolutely nothing so I went around the corner and saw Mama and 3 babies (with their marking now) eating a damn banana 🍌 I kinda jumped and squeaked and only one of the little ones bothered looking at me. None seemed terribly bothered by my intrusion on their breakfast. 🫤😳

1. Your new house is very pretty! 2. Are you able to move or recreate the nice playroom you put so much time, effort & money you put into it? 3. The cats have sure made themselves comfortable! 4. I like the view from the bedroom. 5. Nice fence between kitchen & dining room. 6. The raccoons put cats to shame when it comes to investigating a new place! I don't think they missed a nano-centimeter! Is Cheeto the one who is startled? Puff tail, arch back & fluff fur! CUTE! 7. That's my toy! 8. Pocket door, no problem. They sure had fun in the shower! Piper playing with the black plastic bottle, Piper chasing stream of water. Cheeto chomping on shower hose. Hamper empty, what's in the trash? Oops! 9. Pink feathers on cactus won't last long! 10. Now for the gate at the fireplace...almost got it! Don't do that! Foiled! 11. Kitchen fence: How do we get through? 12. Whew.....what a day! Play a bit then nap time. I hope you enjoy my narrative. Awesome, brother! You have really come a long way and have learned so much! I know from owning a raccoon myself that it is a very challenging task to be able to raccoon proof of something. I almost believe there is no such thing as raccoon proof. lol raccoon resistant, yes, but raccoon proof, not so much, lol! Thanks for sharing, and I love how you have integrated them into your living quarters & not just in a cage or room. Obviously, when you're not there, they need to be in their safe space, but when you are home, it's awesome you let them roam freely! Much love, brother 🦝 ❤️ Raccoon lives Matter !

Also, as to the fireplace, and you may already know this from past experiences as well, but the cats in you home may also want to try and use the fireplace as an extra Litter Box, been there, done that, so best to, "Cat Proof," that as well as, " Raccoon Proof," it.

FYI - I enclosed my shower and had no more steam issues. The steam stayed in the shower. I put a vent w a fan in the shower to help keep dry. Also I wiped dry the shower after use.
