Yes, if you are on the right side you want to hit it across to make your opponent move. Hitting cross court shots is deadlier because you can get more angles. Then play a flat shot to the other side if you want to switch side. It’s about going back and forth doing this until your opponent makes a mistake or you get an opportunity to do something. Going up to the net is only done if your opponent hits a high shot or is very much in stress. You should be able to be at the net pretty much before they hit the shot
Love watching someone learn and be passionate about tennis. Enjoying the serious and cannot wait to play the game. Focus hitting cross court (diagonal) as it's safer and longest length of court and lowest part of the net. Hitting down the line higher risk but potentially greater reward for winning the rally.

Hey Trev, Love this series, here's a tip use the L1 button on ps5 or equivalent on xbox or pc because that is your "fast repostioning" button and will bring you back to the centre of the court. I would also run through the training with john macenroe as he covers really helpful shots and positioning. Aslo congrats on the wedding.

Coming from a tennis player going cross court is often best because you can get more angel on the ball which gets them more off the court and then go down the line when they are off the court.
I recommend you try the different camera perspective "zoom" aka court level! you can see the height of the bounce better and hit it at waist height. Also gives a truer sense of how tennis looks like to play irl

from the little i know about tennis, when you come to a player that has a strong forehand/backhand. always try and position the ball to where they have to use the weaker form.
The last guy had an incredibly menacing backhand - it was a force to be reckoned with!

You getting the right speed and placement of your shot depends on how well you hit it in the game. So if you have a too soon or late it affects where the ball will go.

Tennis coach here. When you're rallying from the baseline, I'd recommend recovering slightly more to one side than just the middle; i.e. if you hit to a right handers forehand, recover more to your right side and if you hit to their backhand you recover more to your left side. This is to help defend against certain angles since most players will hit majority of their balls cross-court

One thing about positioning: When you are hitting, try to mirror your position diagonally to where the ball lands, because if they hit cross court, the centre is not actually technically the centre with the angle they can hit, but down the line you can cover because they can’t create angle

Now that you've got the basic strategy, you can incorporate playing the ball deep, and then hitting a drop shot. Just be careful they don't run up and volley on you (aggressive as you call it).
He's getting to some of your cross shots because they are not perfect, nor do they have enough power.

You’re still also not recovering to the correct place. You want to mirror your opponents position, if he’s to the left then you want to recover / return to a similar position to the right. At 22:10 you should have been recovering way to the right since your opponent was way to the left and there is a lot more space for him to hit the ball to your right. Instead of moving right you actually moved further left leaving a massive gap that you wouldn’t be able to reach for him to easily hit the ball into.
Don't do a drop shot unless you are up at the net and they are back, otherwise the physics of what you're trying to do doesn't work. Further back you are the more power you need to put on it to get over the net and that's not the point

As a amateur tenis player myself . You are playing too far back of the line, be more on the line and you hit the ball & go back to the middle, you hit and you go back the middle this is because if you are on the line it's gets easier to reach the net when you have a dropshot or a ball that came short . Even I can't do the drop shot perfectly Every single time lol
