2024 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid is WAY More Affordable
We get it: the 2024 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid doesn’t look much different than the outgoing model. But looks are deceiving, because there are some HUGELY IMPORTANT upgrades for 2024, and we'll dive into all of them including a must-have feature called the Pro Access Tailgate. There's also an all-new price for the hybrid model, and we'll let you know what's up with the Lightning EV model.
Note: Due to the early nature of the product, not all trucks filmed for this video were Powerboost hybrids, but the new tailgate is available on nearly all hybrid trims, and isn't different between powertrains.

Is the F-150 Hybrid weak sauce? Go PRO: kzhead.info/sun/o5aekaiQa5lorH0/bejne.html
Perfect my shins will love me when they get wrecked forgetting about my hitch when opening the tailgate.
Thank you for making this short and to the point
Thank you for watching!
46K you won't find one unless you can order it.
36?
I always order a vehicle, no problem
Not even
Thanks! What’s the availability like for the 2024 regular cab (2-door) 8 foot bed, with power boost and pro access tail gate?
Thanks Craig!
What is payload and tow capacity power boost crew cab didn’t see option for max tow option
I remember one of the first few videos on Blue Cruise and how they would continue to update and improve it for customers. I bought a 2022 and haven't received any updates on that feature set even though they keep updating it. Not good on software features.
I had a huge surprise when I went online to price one! I could not get trailer tow mirrors, locking rear axle or max trailer tow package on the Lariet or Platinum versions with any engine other than the V8.
In Missouri there are a lot of 5.0. I want another 3.5 ecoboost (a deer totaled my 2014).
I believe trailer tow mirrors are now available. I just ordered a 24 XLT Powerboost with tow mirrors. It is a job 2 build.
The hybrid is genius why would you buy anything else. No more generator for the trailer you’re towing, a way to power tools with your work vehicle and you can even power your whole home if Enron won’t. No noise, no futzing with fuel cans no pollution from shitty little generator engines. The only mistake they’re making is not hybridizing every engine in the lineup. Bring back the NA V6 and hybridize it, the 2.7 the V8, give people choices.
Because it’s not as reliable as the 3.5 and some people like having more space in the back
When is the PHEV coming out Ford?
EV Pulse... how is the 2024 powerboost more affordable? I have a 2023 Powerboost and just built the exact truck online for a 2024 and it was 8K more. My opinion is this year's release was a let down, fewer options and another increase in price!
I have a 22 Powerboost paid 66k and has everything but heated steering wheel moon roof and adaptive cruise control
I just ordered a 2024 XLT 157" wheelbase Powerboost. The list on it is $1666.00 less than the list was for my 2023 XLT 157" wheelbase 3.5 ecoboost. Same options on both the 23 and 24. The Powerboost option now is discounted to the same price as the 3.5 ecoboost.
Did they fix the transmission
Why did Ford remove the option for tow mirrors on the 2024 hybrid?? Why else would I want extra torque except for towing? The lead engineer opens up with "we went and talked to customers...." and what, a whole bunch of people were like: "You know what we hate when towing ? Tow mirrors!"
believe trailer tow mirrors are now available. I just ordered a 24 XLT Powerboost with tow mirrors. It is a job 2 build.
This feels like the 2022 Super Duty. Bunch of tech updates and a light facelift. If you don’t know, that was right before the 2023 redesign. If history repeats itself, a 2025 refresh (alongside the confirmed 2025 release of the new Expedition, Navigator, and conveniently code named “T3” electric truck platform) might be a reality. If you didn’t know, the F-150 since two refreshes ago rides on the “T2” platform, so it makes sense that a T3 platform for a new F-150, Expedition, Navigator, F-? and full size SUV would all come in the same year.
Any chance of the expedition riding on the super duty chassis?
Maybe they’ll bring the excursion back for that
I’d say, take it slow, Ford. Don’t want to do too much at once and screw everything up. Slow and steady is good.
I just love that these vehicle manfactures are doing special tailgates and steps instead of just making these trucks smaller. My buddy just purchased a 2023 GMC 2500 and the gap between the front unirails and the quarter panel are just rediculous. there is no need to make these trucks bigger just to re engineer special tailgates to make it easier to get into.
Just stop it. I bet u don't have money for it that's why u mad
@@vali.2286 i mean yeah youre right i dont lol, I also dont want to pay 65k for a mid grade truck either buts thats a different conversation
I'm not so happy that you cannot get the Powerboost with towing mirrors anymore, so using the 7.2kW power onboard to power a travel trailer is no longer a supported config if you want to be able to see when towing.
Dang that does suck. I think it’s a relatively easy swap to tow mirrors but should really be offered from the factory as I agree that having such power for a TT was a huge selling point.
believe trailer tow mirrors are now available. I just ordered a 24 XLT Powerboost with tow mirrors. It is a job 2 build.
Yeah well the hybrid is in the build calculator, but no xl or stx in any configuration so idk what changed. Cheapest i could configure a 4x4 hybrid was 59k.
They dropped the hybrid's fuel tank size from 30 gal down to 23 gallons so it can't effectively be used for towing because you'll have to stop every 150 miles for gas at 8 mpg that it gets when towing a 6000 lb travel trailer. You also can't get towing mirrors on the Powerboost. Blue Tooth subscription has also gone through the roof. It was suppose to be $200/year when they introduced the feature in 2021 but it is now going to be $800/year. I won't be subscribing at that new price.
Not sure what you’re talking about, still has a 30 gallon tank and I have tow mirrors on my powerboost and I get 18 mpg hauling my 6500lb boat. Mine is a 2023. Did they change all of this in one year?
Guessing that simplifying the configurations leaves options of 23 and 36 gallon tanks and 36 doesn't fit with the hybrid. Too bad base tank wasn't made to be 30 gallons.
@@andyd5492I just ordered a new 2024 F150 King Ranch that had a 30 gallon tank as standard. Also FORD gives you a complete rebate of the $1,900.00 cost on the upgrade to the hybrid meaning it's no charge.
Sadly.. fewer options and higher price. Yes massive changes in options. Tried to build a platinum with V-8… no longer an option.. then chose the Powerboost but cannot build with trailer mirrors. Then tried to build without black out… no choice. You must get the black out truck or move to the platinum plus (the limited Diamond light blue interior). What’s worse is a lot of the nice options of the 2023 are gone. The tailgate is no where near as nice as the GM gate and it doesn’t incorporate a built in step, now relying on an aftermarket stick on step stick under the bumper… it will be torn off when off-road.
One more comment. I’m angry at the Union leadership and management. In particular the President and BOD at Ford, Stelantis and GM. These leaders have pushed their own personal compensation to levels that destroy not only a sense of teamwork or the belief “we are all in this together” so critical of highly organized efficient and effective organizations! The union leaders feed their members lies and partial truths to make them feel “entitled” and they keep them in the mentality of “them vs us”. I’ve worked in the Union of my company and it infuriates me how a few men and women can make themselves rich and powerful pitting their constituents against management. This should never be. I even more angry at management for paying themselves so much that they cannot understand the daily struggles of the average worker and worse the absolute devastating impact the extremely high cost of purchasing one of their vehicles has on society. In 1978, my family ordered a 1979 F-350 Crew Cab Lariat. With tax, title and license the cost was just under $7900 dollars. Our gross income that year was $43,000 dollars just off of my Dads income. The President of Ford that year made 8x the income of its highest paid workers! Today our income with wife also contributing is $150,000 a year. A 2024 F-350 Lariat Crew Cab is $90,000 dollars. If we remove my wife’s income, I’m asking $80,000. That’s about double the income of 1978. If we look at the pickup, it has gone up by almost 975%. If my income had kept up? I’d be earning $500,000 a year. Now in the same time, the President of Fords income has increased from $450,000 per year (1980 Wall Street journal) to last year making $23,000,000 on a normal year and on some years nearly with stock and bonuses just $35,000,000 or just under $100,000 dollars a day….. clearly something is terribly wrong! What does all this mean? It means American are in big danger of economic collapse under debt we cannot sustain.
Best breakdown of the changes I've seen so far with minimal fluff. I am disappointed Ford didn't announce hybrid availability on all trim, body styles, and engines. The setup needs a larger battery and more horsepower for the electric motor in my opinion, it doesn't have the e=ability of their other hybrids. Making the hybrid a no cost option on the ecoboost will help sell more.
Platinum Plus on Order, told it maybe to early to get the new tailgate.
:48 Jill Ciminillo sneaking in on right, barely comes up to the bed rail height!😆 Why not just let the entire tailgate swing like a door? It seems overly complicated. With very little benefit and perhaps even a deficit.
My2023 Maverick xlt hybrid was around 32k … I have few issues . I don’t trust ford quality any more
The 2015 f150 still has the best looking front end imo. Got that "Tonka truck" look to it.
Agreed. I also miss when they had wheel arch molding/flair on the XLT and above. It’s so simple but gave it a great stance.
No led tail lights on an xlt is insane, it’s practically a 60k truck with halogen tail lights. All Sierra models offer led tail lights standard. And no reviewer even complains or mentions this.
No one is brave enough to. Afraid they will get cut from manufacturer
Wondering if it’s available in crew cab w/ a 6.5’ bed yet? The short bed makes it a no-go for me.
Shame there is no lower powertrain available with the hybrid. Prices have continued to increase, which isnt unexpected, but would be refreshing for there to be a product that at least tries to convey a sense of affordability.
Affordability is completely subjective nowadays!
@@MrSmurf459 Sure, but raising prices and eliminating less expensive options/packages definitely does not convey that Ford is trying to make things affordable, even if affordable is a highly subjective terms.
We'd like to see an all-hybrid lineup and a more base hybrid to make the truck cheaper. Sure, people are finding money to buy these things, but with interest rates, inflation, and *flails arms* all this there's some opportunity here.
@@EVPulse definitely, Ford has the 3.3 V6 hybrid in the Explorer. I never knew why they didn’t even attempt to bring it over to F-150. Many people love the V6 on the forums I’m on, so adding some pro power, a little bit of extra hp and some fuel economy gains and I thought it would have been a hit with customers and fleets alike.
I’d want a FX4 STX with the powerboost.
Too bad you can't option Trailer Tow Mirrors with the Powerboost
Just buy the aftermarket Boost mirrors... There better and you can get them the way you want them
I believe trailer tow mirrors are now available. I just ordered a 24 XLT Powerboost with tow mirrors. It is a job 2 build.
I bought a 23 powerboost Oct 5th that was on the lot. While I was there I spec’s out a 24 with the same options and it was almost 3k more than the 23. This is invoice, taking out any incentives. The 24 powerboost is absolutely not cheaper than a 23
Except the second you drove both th 2024 the 2023 off the lot--the 2023 was a year old relative to 2024 in terms of blue Book resale. Way over $3000 value difference, I'm thinking.
I wonder if they fixed the problems that made Consumer Reports call it the worst pickup on the market
To be fair, consumer reports is a bunch of shills that claim that they’re independent, but they absolutely are not.
The F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid is the best truck in it's class and maybe the best truck on the market. I hope they put the Watts link rear end in the 2024 model or at least make it an option because comfort and ride quality are more important than outright towing capacity in this class of truck. People can move up to a larger sized truck if they need to tow heavier loads. The PowerBoost is the future of trucks a big thumbs up from me I hope Ford listens to and resolves any customers issues going forward. 😎🇦🇺👍
Not sure how many states are doing this, but Kentucky charges an additional $60 at registration for lowering you carbon footprint. The claim is that since you don’t use as much fuel, you’re not paying enough in taxes😂. Total electric vehicle owners pay an additional $120.
I bought an F150 King Ranch power boost hybrid, and in the 2 1/2 years I’ve owned it they had to take the first one back after five days because it quit working and they couldn’t get it working. Three months later I got my new truck again and twice in the last two years I came out of lunch and the vehicle wouldn’t start. They claimed it was the hybrid battery which I don’t understand why it has a battery upfront when I thought the battery upfront primary purpose was to start the vehicle. The second time this happened it took them a month and three days to fix it by replacing the hybrid battery the hybrid motor And several modules. Also, the second time I was 110 miles away from home and they refused to tow it to my home dealership so I had to find my own way home and even though I have 150,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty they said they would rent a $35 a car for 10 calendar days. How am I supposed to drive this for work out of town like I have been doing when it is this unreliable? Ford Customer service said they were going to offer me a buyback but never did. Credibly, frustrating and unreliable for a $75,000 vehicle, especially
I wonder when Lighting will get a chasis purpose built to be EV instead of using the gas powered body's
2025 is what ford said years ago. I had to say a more exciting vehicle would be a lightning Maverick. I have the lightning f150 myself and it's really good as it is. I'm sure a more purpose built cab will have more advantages. But the F-150 lighting is top of the game right now, imo. Plus you get alot of saving using the same parts. So it could be more expensive.
@@ryanwalters6184They could use the room you'd need for an 80kwh pack as an excuse to give maverick a 6' bed!
Why they won’t make one with plug in hybrid thou
If it cant power two houses i dont want it
I configured a 2024 XLT, which now only has two interior color option, both dark. No optional wheels. You can't even option LED taillights on XLT anymore. The 2023 I configured had several additional option on it, and was over $4,000 less. By the way, digital instruments cost the manufacturer far less than individual analogue gauges do.
I prefer light for my retinal low light deficiencies.
Awe, I know what you mean. I have a condition causing inflammation of the Corneas. Like you, low light and dark areas make my vision worse, so I prefer a beige, or light gray interior colors. I hope things improve for you.@@NewCastleIndiana
That's good to hear.@@sny1168
Zero interest in expensive gimmicky tailgates and while the hybrid was interesting, based on the down time due to issues that seems to affect almost all of them I'm not particularly likely to buy one anytime soon. Maybe Ford can deal with leaky coolant from turbos and the failure of the rear pinion bearing that seems systemic.
My gripe is the imitation on colors. All some shade of black, grey or white. Not many other colors on the dealers' lots.
I hate the tailgate. I hope the multi modular tsilgate is a trend that the trucks get away from I don’t like all the the breaks in the design. The accents in the headlight take away from the lightning identity. I can’t help but feel the front end looks cheaper overall but the tail lights are a knockout.
To answer the question in the title.....nope.
Militory grade aluminium..well build truck
It's a miss to not allow the left side of the tailgate to swing like the right side does. Would make sweeping stuff out of the back, and moving wider items in and out allot easier.
what would you expect from the left? maybe poor taste, but a joke.
It’s funny i can see Jill and andre
Random question - why do manufacturers still use halogen lights for the license plate? Cheap upgrade, but just seems cheap for a manufacturer who updates ever other light to LED.
Probably saves a penny or two per truck.
me not looking at Andre From TFL - _ - haha
It’s a “who’s who” in the background
PowerBoost have a bigger gas tank for 2024 ??
30.6 gallons
There is only one thing I wish Ford would do, that is make a plain Jane model. Roll up windows, straight shift, no bs electronics, no fancy electric gadgets, no carpet, plus a big 8 cylinder to suck that gas down.
Tremor hybrid is nice
no its not. it is more expensive. You could grab a 4x4 XL Powerboost for 50k in 2021
Drop the price by $15K and I’m in 🇺🇸👍🏻😎! P.S buddy didn’t get the memo that the Lightning is ☠️.
Military grade eh? So produced by the lowest bidder to meet the bare minimum in requirements
Title is deceiving, have to get an xlt with 5 seats to get the powerboost rather than the xl with 6 seats + 10k…. Their focus is not worksites or business owners
Swing open tailgates are the dumbest update. Something for them to charge extra for I guess
I wonder. Reviewers spend most of the time at the tailgate, as if there's nothing more to talk about. Is that really is the biggest F150 upgrade Ford can offer?
Why have they done away with race red???
What....No MAGA red?
Powerboost is already available for XLT, Lariat, limited, etc.
tailgate is a must have? You have to be kidding.
Yes, please sell your perfectly good truck and buy this one, please.
Big family need 6 passengers seat
That sucks no more xl power boost trucks
Truck looks like a toy now 🤔. Maybe it will grow on me later in the future.
Buddy it's the same truck it would hardly pass as a refresh come on Ford make a new truck that doesn't look like the past 20 years trucks wow
Never say military grade aluminum again when it comes to a Ford. The aluminum is paper thin on these trucks.
Missed our air quotes?
Leave the truck the way it is I got a Ford F150, 2021 that’s the king of trucks that tailgate they did for this year that’s the stupidest idea they’ve done in the back tailgate they need to learn how to seal those cracks for that door first to make look good so does ram
Ford will end up killing the lightening. Sales for it are in the tank. Hybred is the way to go.
Agree. We don’t yet have the tech to store enough energy in board to make it a usable truck. GM has to make their truck weight 9000lbs to even get 200kwh on board. And some of us need even more.
You can't option trailer tow mirrors on the 2024 hybrid. At least not on the website right now, ICE only engines. I'm a fan of the powerboost, but that doesn't send a great message for what it's intended for.
@@user-cr4se9yb7n I believe trailer tow mirrors are now available. I just ordered a 24 XLT Powerboost with tow mirrors. It is a job 2 build.
That tailgate design is nothing new. Reminds me of the country Square in the 60s…
They should have fixed the clunky transmission. Maybe get rid of its learning function.
Why do all of you car reviewers keep focusing on a gimmick tailgate? Is Ford telling you all to focus on this or else they won't invite you back? All of you are saying "this is the coolest thing" and it's a "must have" but when Ford themselves say it's a "late availability" and they aren't building it until Job 2 in 2024, nobody cares about the tailgate. If they can't build it (like they can't build anything else due to claimed supply shortages) then it makes no difference. Lastly, streamlining the build process will absolutely cut manufacturing costs and potentially lead to better reliability and save in warranty claims costs BUT cutting costs DOES NOT mean reducing the price or saving the consumer money. There is a huge distinction to be made there.
Automakers often introduce cool stuff and then make it late availability. When so much is carryover the tailgate is perhaps the most interesting thing about the updated truck.
They slashed options too far! I can’t get a Platinum Plus without taking the hybrid - which I don’t want! In 10 years, not going to be a good idea…who wants to replace batteries (EVER). Bummed - they’re pushing us into hybrids when we don’t want them…
Affordable? Maybe if someone makes $200k a year with no other debt.
Get a job
If I make $14/hour like you it's still unaffordable.
A 7kw honda generator is $5,000.00 and is far more efficient than running your v6 truck to produce the same power as a 12,000.00 dollar option. Its just unnecessary complexity
But if you have the hybrid model you are not constantly running the engine. The option for the 7k on the 23 model was $750. So buying a Honda will not only cost 6 times more but then you need to constantly load it and unload it.
What he said. I would add you're not carrying the darn generator in the back all the time... Very very practical
That new Honda Ridgeline is looking nice
I hate those tailgates. they are for people who dont actually work with thier trucks! Loading a dirt bike or snowmobile with those tailgates just ripps them apart. avoid at all cost! Ordering a 24 now and they tried to upsell me on the "highspeed" tailgate. thumbs down on that
Way more affordable than what ? $70,000 ? What planet do you live on
No EV truck will afford me the freedom of work ability's I now enjoy. Period. I've owned over a dozen Ford F-150's. Nothing beats the 94 super cab 8' cargo bed v-8. XLT two tone full body side molding. 4/10 rear dual fuel tank. It is what it is. If I'm afraid of fuel milage cost. I'm not a full fledged service entity. I need the service tools more than walking and arranging separate delivery task fit into job restraints. if there's plenty of seats for the workmen to sit while at the service counter setting up deliver times. Hey they can mull around and get the fasteners and small stuff. The new Ford F-150 can get your fasteners and your tools to the job site. A few short pieces of building material too. Too bad for ford. They did it to themselves. Do I want to Pay well over 50 thousand dollars for half of a truck that used to be a whole full fledged pick up truck?
Fords online configurator is a dumpster fire...oh and fix your transmission problems Ford.
Go back to the 60s and give me a simple no frills truck!! I don't need all this extra crap that breaks.
Be a man Step Up to Deniali
This truck sucks for towing unless you like 4mpg..
Are you referring to the Powerboost? Because if you are, you are dead nuts wrong on your claim.
I have been very pleased with my 2016 EcoBoost towing mileage. The new trucks should be even better.
99% of owners don't tow or houl.
I towed 2x during my 3 year ownership. Not worth the additional $1500.
The shifter sucks!!
Looks like they’re copying Toyota with headlights
Trash!! I will never ever buy a new ford had problems with the transmission bright new truck!! Dealer never called me back to take it in to fix the problem!! Long story short l traded it for another brand thanks
Please do not call ANY of these trucks affordable....maybe it doesn't start at such an inflated price.....but that's about it.....🤷♂️
Affordable to who exactly?????
Too much technocrap no thanks.👎
The biggest change is 0nce again overpriced garbage! If you get rear ended it will cost you $5,600 Boys and Girls for rear lights equipped with the bliss system...$5,600 bucks Boys and girls!😂
Let's reverse engineer the lamps and sell them for say....$2500?
Ahhhh. The EV HYBRID SCAM.
What's the scam? EVs? Hybrids? Both?
The real question you got to ask yourself is why are you even driving a Ford?
Well that isn't very nice. The F150 is number one in America. You sound like a disgruntled Saturn owner.
You guys need to realize that EV's are a failed technology. Hardly anyone wants one because they are a huge failure. Ford lost over $5B for making EV's and thats the reason why the prices of fueled vehicles are so darn expensive
November is already trending to the best EV sales month. But carry on.
Let's talk about how Ford and other manufacturers are collecting or info by using their vehicles to listen to what we say, looming for keywords in our speech and then selling that information to other companies to market to us. Not just our smartphones anymore, vehicles are doing it as well.
It’s pure evil
They need to bring back HD 1500 Trucks .......
For real, modern half-tons are barely good for any real work but even most 3/4 tons are overkill for most people.
Why? It will have a payload up to 2,400 lbs and a tow rating up to 13,000 lbs. if you need more than that, then Ford will happily sell you an F-250.
That's why Nissan offered an XD that literally nobody purchased.
@EVPulse keyword "Nissan" 😅.
@M1911jln 🫣 now just imagine a modern version of HD 1500s 🤔.
