  • Call Roush Racing, if anyone from the Terminator program is still around, they will have a good chuckle at your crankshaft failure. There's a terminator balancer in the ceiling of a dyno cell IIRC from like 2001 when during the terminator development program they discovered a lack of fillet in the crank snout and it would snap off. Anyways, the mod motors have needed a bigger crank snout for a very long time with supercharger's. We had a shop mod motor that made pretty ridiculous power back in the day, it would twist the block to much the main cap side bolts would back out. Good shit, was fun. Tire shake will break a crank snout, and send rods flying out the oil pan to.

    • In the ecotec world, we've been butting huge keyways in the crank for a long time now because ATI would spin and weld itself on and snap the stock bolt. Replace it with a large keyway all the way to the rear main seal and a use an ARP crank bolt and never had that problem again.

    • Snout of her crank has always been a bit soft. After all, she'll throw belts in the burnout box and has had repeated issues with -braking- {correction} breaking crank position sensors. Why it keeps deflecting and breaking the crank sensors, I'm not sure of, but an alternator alone surely wouldn't be loading it like a supercharger. Maybe the crank is actually twisting and that's what has been causing the movement/deflection of the harmonic balancer. The big fat cam shaft maybe even playing a role in that engines crank problem. Anyway, she'll have a good freshen up and a new crank then she'll be ready for those 6.5sec passes.

Its a classic first move to make a car faster, and its a free upgrade, tear out the stuff that slows it down, my dad did exactly that to his first car, ripped out the back seats, front passenger seat, spare tyre and other small things from his Oldsmobile Cutlass, I believe he sold them and used that money to upgrade the carb and intake plenum and just tossed the filter, he welded straight pipes and then got into an accident and decided to start actually making money so he could afford more. Now in his early 60s he tells me stories of all the vehicles he's driven, from tiny cars to a quarry truck, even a diesel locomotive once, I'm not sure if it was him or a friend of his that drove an import model BMW Isetta, but my dad had a crazy life regarding cars.

I have always wanted nicer, so I did many upgrades to my 79 C20 that was my daily driver from 97-2020 including a full roller 406 sbc with forged crank, ported aluminum heads and all the other best stuff to go with it. I added power locks and windows since it is a real Silverado (an actual trim package) but somehow didn't have electric. My 88 K5 Blazer got upgrades, and I would never strip down a vehicle.......different strokes for different folks I guess. Neck, back, and health issues make the ride too rough for me now and I needed more power and fuel mileage and wanted nicer with all the features. I HATE driving and always wanted to be at my destination, although when I was younger there was more fun to it. Well, a top of the line duramax 2500HD CC LB fit the bill and hauls ass with luxury.

    @seikoja@seikoja3 ай бұрын
    • actually.. you're probably not wrong. The reason for the belt squeal and the snout break is probably the same reason. I think the belt squeal was a symptom of a pulley misalignment, which weakened the crank. If you have the belt pulled as tight as it'll get and it still squeals, you aint lined up right. then after a couple hundred million revolutions with the misalignment, the snout has been annealed by the slight tugging and now it's soft/fractured/ready to snap off when the boost rolls in.

    • The Mojave looks like a Traxxis UDR with the wrong or irs suspension. Does it handle good? My UDR isn’t a giant basher more a scale realism fun time.

      @duramaxdad@duramaxdad3 ай бұрын
    • @@duramaxdad it does handle decent. It seems to traction roll less than my SBR 2.0 and my buddies UDR. It does lack that realistic look drifting around but more than makes up for that in toughness. Both the 4s and 6s trucks are tanks. Body post on the 6s is about the only weak part of the whole truck. On a track the UDR is probably better and definitely looks better going around but bashing jumps the Mojave's are hard to beat. The 6s and Fireteam are the same platform and my Fireteam is my toughest rig. I've broken it less than my Xmaxx.

    @snupi_nut@snupi_nut3 ай бұрын
    • Well no, the squeak was a symptom from Ruby since years ago, a symptom of pulley misalignment that annealed the snout of the crank and that combined with a likely casting defect just eventually weakened the snout until the extreme harmonics from 1000 pounds of thrust on that side of the dragster ripping past him just was the straw that broke the camel's back, Ruby would've broken her snout on one of the next pulls, Clay just revealed Ruby's incoming bottom-end failure a bit before Ruby was going to say she's had enough.
